  • In this paper the possibility of snorer-dependent snore recognition using cepstral coefficients was suggested. We assumed that snore and speech sounds have some similarities and we used cepstral coefficients which are widely used for speech recognition. Snoring data were acquired from 18 persons including 5 patients diagnosed as snore patient. To evaluate the performance of proposed method, the distance ratio based on LPC cepstral coefficients was selected as an index for snorer-dependent snore recognition. As a result, distance ratio of 3 was selected as optimal value showing the most efficient snorer-dependent snore recognition, which is high accuracy of 95.05% on average. In conclusion, the proposed method showed the possibilities to be applied in clinical applications for snorer-dependent snore recognition.

  • In this study, eight function discrimination and recognition of the EMG signal from the biceps and triceps of 4 subjects were executed, using the Euclidean and weighted cepstral distance measure with LPC cepstrum coefficients. In case of Euclidean cepstral distance measure, as the number of LPC cepstrum coefficients was increased in 8, 10, 12, 14 the recognition rates of functions are 94.69, 95.63, 96.56, and 96.88[%], respectively, but increasing rates of recognition were inclined to decrease. In case of weighted cepstral distance measure, when the number of LPC cepstrum coefficients was 8, 10, 12 and 14, the recognition rates of functions were 91.88, 95, 99.69, and 96.63[%], respectively.

  • The main factor decreasing speech recognition rate is the surrounding noise. To lower the noise effect, we generally used the filter bank at preprocessing stage. But, in this paper, we tried to recognize the 10 numeral numbers using 2-D LPC to extract image feature. At first, we obtained the result of speech-only recognition using 13th-order LPC coefficients and then, for distorted speech recognition results of ‘0’, ‘4’, ‘5’, ‘6’ and 9’, we added image parameters such as 12th-order 2-D LPC coefficients. At each frame, we extracted the 2-D LPC coefficients, and simulated recognizer with two parameters such as speech and image. Finally, for the numbers, such as ‘4’and ‘9’, the better results were obtained.

  • This paper focuses on how spectrum information can be represented efficiently in a very low bit rate CELP speech coder. To achieve the goal, an LPC cepstral coefficients VQ scheme representing the spectrum information in a CELP coder is proposed. To represent the spectrum information using LPC cepstrums, three different cepstral distance measures having different spectral meanings in the frequency domain are considered, and their performances are compared and analyzed. The experimental results show that spectrum information in low bit rate CELP coders can be represented very efficiently using the proposed LPC cepstral vector quantization scheme.

  • The underwater transients signals contain the characteristics of complexity, time varying, nonlinear, and short duration. So it is very hard to model for these signals with reference patterns. In this paper we separate the whole length of signals into some short duration of constant length with overlapping frame by frame. The 20th LPC(Linear Predictive Coding) coefficients are extracted from the original signals using Durbin algorithm and applied to neural network. The 65% of whole signals were learned and 35% of the signals were tested in the neural network with two hidden layers. The types of the whales for sound classification are Blue whale, Dulsae whale, Gray whale, Humpback whale, Minke whale, and Northern Right whale. Finally, we could obtain more than 83% of classification rate from the test signals.

  • Monitoring and diagnosis of the operating machines are very important for safety operation and maintenance in the industrial fields. These machines are most rotating machines and the diagnosis of the machines has been researched for long time. We can easily see the faulted signal of the rotating machines from the changes of the signals in frequency. The Linear Predictive Coding(LPC) is introduced for signal analysis in frequency domain. In this paper, we propose fault detection and diagnosis method using the Linear Predictive Coding(LPC) and residual signal energy. We applied our method to the induction motors depending on various status of faulted condition and could obtain good results.

  • This Paper proposes the vector quantizer-pyramid vector quantizer(VQ-PVQ) structure. Also both predictive structure and safety-net concept are combined into the VQ-PVQ to quantize the IPC parameter of wideband speech codec. The Performance is compared to the LPC vector quantizer used in the AMR-WB(ITU-T G.722.2). demonstrating reduction in both spectral distortion and encoding memory.

  • This paper proposes a HMM-based recognition method using DMSVQ(Dynamic Multi-Section Vector Quantization) codebook by DMS model and double spectral feature, as a method on the speech recognition of speaker-independent. LPC cepstrum parameter is used as a instantaneous spectral feature and LPC cepstrum's regression coefficient is used as a dynamic spectral feature These two spectral features are quantized as each VQ codebook. HMM using DMS model is modeled by receiving instantaneous spectral feature and dynamic spectral feature by input. Other experiments to compare with the results of recognition experiments using proposed method are implemented by the various conventional recognition methods under the equivalent environment of data and conditions. Through the experiment results, it is proved that the proposed method in this paper is superior to the conventional recognition methods.

  • This paper describes the study on isolated word recognition by using DHMM(Dynamic Hidden Markov Model) which has dynamic feature of spectrum as a parameter. This paper discusses speech recognition experiment basedon HMM which can evaluate not only instantaneous spectral features but also dynamic spectral features. LPC cepstrum parameters is used as a static feature and LPC cepstrum's regression coefficient is used as a dynamic feature. These two features are quantized by each VQ codebook. DHMM is modeled by receiving static vector and dynamic vector by input. In the whole experiment, as recognition experiment using DHMM shows 92.7% of recognition rate while the experiment using conventional HMM shows 88.8% of recognition rate, DHMM proved to be a useful model.
