  • A digital self-sustained phase shift modulation (DSSPSM) strategy that allows for good soft switching and dynamic response performance in the presence of step variations is presented in this paper. The working principle, soft switching characteristics, and voltage gain formulae of a LLC converter with DSSPSM have been provided separately. Furthermore, the method for realizing DSSPSM is proposed. Specifically, some key components of the proposed DSSPSM are carefully investigated, including a parameter variation analysis, the start-up process, and the zero-crossing capture of the resonant current. The simulation and experiment results verify the feasibility of the proposed control method. It is observed that the zero voltage switching of the switches and the zero current switching of the rectifier diodes can be easily realized in presence of step load variations.

  • Solar cell is one of the most important new renewable energy for future energy generation. This paper presents a novel two stage DC/DC converter topology for PV PCSs. The proposed converter consists of an interleaved boost converter and a two-tank LLC resonant converter which is connected in parallel in primary and series in secondary. The main idea of this topology is that the system can achieve either unilateral or bilateral operations due to the input voltage level of the PV module, which leads to a better performance. The operating schemes on the proposed converter are analyzed and described. A 2.2kW prototype product is built, tested and verified.

  • In this study, an integrated 2-in-1 transformer for a low-weight and low-cost light-emitting diode lighting power supply is proposed. In the transformer, a power factor correction (PFC) inductor and an LLC resonant transformer are placed and integrated on a single magnetic core. The amount of mutual interference, represented by the coupling coefficient, between magnetic fluxes generated from each magnetic source is minimized by using the new shape core of an integrated 2-in-1 transformer. The design consideration on critical conduction mode PFC converter and LLC resonant converter using the proposed 2-in-1 integrated transformer is described, and the overall performance of the 150 W LED PSU shown through the experiment.

  • The Low Voltage DC-DC converters (LDCs) of the Electric Vehicles require high power density and high efficiency operation over the wide range of load and input voltage variations. This paper introduces a novel topology which combines three 1 MHz Half-Bridge (HB) LLC resonant converters and an Inverting Buck-Boost (IBB) converter to adjust the output voltage without frequency modulation. The switching frequency of the proposed converter is fixed at 1MHz to achieve a constant frequency operation for the resonant converter. In the proposed topology GaN FETs and planar transformers are employed to optimize the converter operation at high frequency. A 1 MHz/1.8 kW prototype converter is built to verify the feasibility and the validity of the proposed LDC topology.

  • In this paper, For achieving the high gain and resonant characteristics in both of the power flow directions, a bidirectional resonant dc-dc converter with auxiliary switches is proposed. Auxiliary switches are connected in the primary and secondary side of the bidirectional resonant dc-dc converter, respectively. A 800W prototype bidirectional resonant dc-dc converter for interfacing the 400V DC buses in the energy storage system is built and tested to verify the validity and applicability of this proposed converter.

  • The interest is coming to be high, recently with depletion of the fossil fuel and with carbon dioxide exhaust limit about emittion, from a car of Internal combustion engine to Electric vehicle. AC-DC converter is necessary to battery charging which is an electric vehicle energy storage. Necessary conditions of the converter are necessary for wide output voltage range, high efficiency, high power factor etc. It is composed two stages for wide output voltage range and insulation. Preliminary stage uses LLC resonant converter and the after stage uses BOOST converter PFC circuit for being considered a power factor and confirmed experimentally.

  • A soft switching converter with wide voltage range operation is investigated in this paper. A series resonant converter is implemented to achieve a high circuit efficiency with soft switching characteristics on power switches and rectifier diodes. To improve the weakness of the narrow voltage range in LLC converters, an alternating current (ac) power switch is used on the primary side to select a half-bridge or full-bridge resonant circuit to implement 4:1 voltage range operation. On the secondary-side, another ac power switch is adopted to select a full-wave rectifier or voltage-doubler rectifier to achiever an additional 2:1 output voltage range. Therefore, the proposed resonant converter has the capacity for 8:1 (320V~40V) wide output voltage operation. A single-stage hybrid resonant converter is employed in the study circuit instead of a two-stage dc converter to achiever wide voltage range operation. As a result, the study converter has better converter efficiency. The theoretical analysis and circuit characteristics are verified by experiments with a prototype circuit.

  • This paper presents an optimal design of the slim type high frequency transformer used in the LLC DC to DC resonant converter for 65-inch UHD-TV with the rated power of 315W. This paper also performs an optimal design of the slim type high frequency through core loss analysis, AC winding loss analysis, and optimization design of the winding arrangement of the LLC resonant transformer. Particularly, the high-efficiency and slim type high frequency transformer based on the obtained results from theoretical analysis in this paper is constructed in the interleaved and vertical winding structures of its transformer to realize the winding method of automatic type and minimize AC winding loss. The primary and secondary windings of the slim type high frequency transformer the vertical winding structure proposed in this paper used the Litz-wire windings, PCB and copper plate windings, respectively. Finally, an optimal design of the slim type high frequency transformer proposed in this paper was carried out through the experimental results to confirm the validity of theoretical analysis based on the simulation results using Maxwell 2D and 3D tool.

  • This paper proposes a grid-tied power conditioning system for the fuel cell power generation, which consists of a 2-stage DC-DC converter and a 3-phase PWM inverter. The 2-stage DC-DC converter boosts the fuel cell stack voltage of 26-48V up to 400V, using a hard-switching boost converter and a high-frequency unregulated LLC resonant converter. The operation of the proposed power conditioning system was verified through simulations with PSCAD/EMTDC software. Based on the simulation results, a laboratory experimental set-up was built with a 1.2kW PEM fuel-cell stack to verify the feasibility of hardware implementation. The developed power conditioning system shows a high efficiency of 91%, which is a very positive result for the commercialization.

  • In this paper, implementation of an integrated transformer applicable to power supply units (PSUs) for a 150-W LED with a wide range of output voltage is presented. The transformer is comprised of a PFC inductor and an LLC resonant transformer, each of which is placed and integrated on an E-I-E-type magnetic core. Integrated transformers with two different air gap topologies (i.e., the side and center gap topologies) are considered in the design phase to investigate their applicability. The design consideration on the LLC resonant converter used for the wide-output-voltage control ranges is described, and the overall performance of the proposed system is verified through realization of it onto a 150-W LED PSU board.
