  • The current study uses longitudinal data, which show secondary school students' responses in a biennial data of surveys from England (n=4,326/boys=2,313;girls=2,413) and Scotland (n=3,528/boys=1,744;girls=1,784), to describe the association between availability of cigarette sales to minor, prosmoking attitudes of family members and drinking/drug use and smoking behaviours amongst adolescents. The findings provided strong evidence suggesting that availability of cigarette sales to minor, lack of familial interest on the child's smoking and other substance use were positively associated with the increased level of smoking behaviour in youth. Girls and boys also differed the likelihood of smoking and being a regular smoker. Boys were found to be more likely than girls to be smoking and to be a regular smoker. The implications of promising prevention programmes for preadolescents and areas for future research are presented

  • Household work is a productive activity, but it was not included in the System of National Accounts(SNA). Feminists and household economists complained this drawbacks of the SNA frequently. Finally, a Satellite Account for household production was allowed in the 1993 SNA. Korean government aimed to develop a Satellite Account for Korean household production. However, the development process u3s not efficiently peformed because of the lack of interests, relevant research, and appropriate dat3 at the national level in Korea. Therefore, this study aimed at examining to develop the Satellite Account for Korean household production in terms of its concept, method, data collection, and research topics. Several issues were discussed including methodology to value household production economically, appropriate ways for data collection, and future research directions in the topics of a Satellite Account.

  • This study aims at the introduction to the recall system and its defence strategies for the automobile industry according to the rights and interests protection for consumers, the trade pressure solution of the United States and government's will for the self-certification. Therefore, I make the following proposal in view of the low technological level of Korea's automobile industry, the imperfect means of recall system, the insufficiency of the social recognition and the worst management condition under the IMF system : First, introduction to three steps for self-certification in case of changing the present pype-approval system into the self-certification and its overall operation after 2003. Second, the defence plan of the automobile industry after analyzing the problems coming from the domestic automobile industry.

  • The general characteristics of campylobacters and related organisms (e.g., species of the genera Helicobacter and Wolinella, Bacteroides ureolyticus, and Bacteroides gracilis) are as follows: slender, non-sporeforming, gram-negative, vibroid bacteria (helical- or spiral- shpaed; except that B. ureolyticus and B. gracilis are straight-rod), 0.2-0.5 .mu.m in width and 0.5 .mu.m in length. (Smibert, 1984; Penner, 1988). The species of genus Campylobacter and related organisms are chemoorganotrophs; however, they neither oxidize nor ferment carbohydrates and instead obtain energy from amino acids, the salts of tricarboxylic acids (TCA) cycle intermediates, the salts of organic acids, or, in some species, H$\_$2/. With regard to their oxygen responses for growth, they all are microaeophilic i.e., they are capable of oxygen-dependent growth (respiring with oxygen as a terminal electron acceptor) but can not grow in the presence of a level of oxygen equivalent to that present in an air atmosphere (21% oxygen). This review will take interests in how these microorganisms response to oxygen for growth and what repiratory types they have.

  • In the current smart device-based information environment, information utilization is closely related to social capital. Additionally, the smart divide that occurs owing to the differences in use of smart devices has a significant influence on social capital. In this respect, this research empirically analyzed how the smart divide affects social capital construction. The study found that the level of and proficiency in using smart devices and diversity of the information formats used through smart devices affect social capital construction. Further, people who fully utilize smart devices can enhance their participation in social activities, social networks, and reciprocal activities, leading people to construct social capital in a wider range. Contrarily, those who are unable to use smart devices adequately may be disadvantaged in terms of the opportunity to construct social capital and share public interests. Thus, to maximize the intrinsic value of social capital, it is necessary to consider the factors of the smart divide as a complicated and multi-faceted digital divide and the ways to utilize social capital as a driving force for integrating society, and not as a mechanism for dividing members of society.

  • This study investigated how elementary school teachers reconstruct science curriculum and how they perceive about their experiences. In-depth interviews were conducted with four elementary school teachers who had experience in restructuring science curriculum. Two distinct types of reconstruction were found; restructuring within the subject and integrating between subjects. The teachers who were restructuring science curriculum from personal needs usually substitute, delete, add some contents or activities and change the order of unit within science subject. In contrast, the teachers who were participating in research school usually integrated science with other subjects, developing a new unit or project. The latter recognized the need of teachers' reconstruction of science curriculum more strongly and the importance of teacher's voluntary learning community in implementing the reconstruction. Though they had some difficulties in identifying students' interests and level of understanding and lack of time, all teachers valued curriculum reconstruction by relating it to teacher professional development, identity as a teacher, and job consciousness.

  • The purpose of this study is to systematically analyze empirical studies on community facilities of apartment in Korea, to find out research streaming and understand social backgrounds. Since the last year when well-being trend was highly interesting, consumers have showed their concern about not only just interior of house but also exterior environment of their houses. This movement has evoked consumers' interests in level and sort of resident's community space. For this study, content analysis was conducted. Article of three registered academic institute published from 1986 to 2006 were units of analysis. Using keyword through library database systems, the articles were systematically selected. 20 cases were used for data analysis. For this study, content analysis was conducted.

  • This study examines the technical level of North Korea's S&T and identifies areas for potential North-South cooperation. First, North Korean media is analyzed for situations and trends from 2010 to 2015. Despite some commendable achievements, North Korean S&T remains lacking in basic science and commercialization potential. Despite an awareness of the importance of international cooperation, North Korea is hampered by international sanctions and their own caution, consequently concentrating their efforts on China. Details of their cooperation reflect their interests and needs to a certain extent, although their collaborations were mainly in the form of meetings and conferences rather than active joint research. To assess the potential areas of cooperation with South Korea, this study also draws on interviews with NGOs and professionals working with North Korea. The country's present situation is analyzed and some practical examples of possible cooperation is suggested. North Korea has the potential to expand its cooperation not only with South Korea but with many other countries. North Korea also promisingly expresses interest in cooperation.

  • An ideal teaching-learning method, such as the blended learning method, is to motivate interests in education and to allow active class participation of students. Students exposed to this method are hypothesized to be dedicated in learning and their school life. A research was conducted on $11^{th}$ graders in Daejeon city high school specialized in industry; the blended learning method was applied to a course, digital logic circuit and the effects on the students' learning were monitored. The result shows that compared with a common leaning method, the blended learning method is very effective in terms of increasing educational interest, class participation, the level of concentration in class and academic achievement of students. Also, it shows positive feedbacks from the students on the educational videos and the usage of the contents. Conclusively, the blended learning method effectively increases academic achievements through improved educational motivation and active class participation which positively affect the overall satisfaction of participants.
