The purpose of this study is to investigate and compare the validity of various visual simulation methods with or without sounds and videos of the landscapes The landscape evaluation through such media as color slide, color slide with sounds, video and video without sounds are compared with on-site evaluaton of the landscape. The results are as follows : ·Video can generally convey the feelings for the real landscapes better than traditonal mathod, i.e., slide without sounds. ·When the sources of sounds are dominant in the view, there are great differences in responses among 4 different media and video can convey the feelings for real landscapes on site most successfully. ·There are slight differences by landscape types ; in mixed landscapes, there are higher correlations between the on-site estimaton and estimations through media ; in natural landscapes, video can reflect the feelings for real landscapes on site better. ·There is little difference between two shooting methods, fixed shot and pan shot. These results suggest that traditional visual simulation, with slides or photographs, could not reflect the real landscapes in certain situations and the visual simulation method with sounds and videos should be used in such situatios to represent the real landscape better. Especially, when the whole and comprehensive evaluatio of the landscape properties is important, the visual simulation with sounds and videos should be used. And simulation techniques with sounds and videos should be further developed for practial applications.

It is widely accepted that one of the purposes of education in landscape architecture is to train students as experts for professional practice. But graduates rarely get positive evaluation from the professional practice in landscape architecture regarding their capability in real environments. Recently the international accreditation system for architectural education is introduced, and it requires a considerably high degree of education enhancing practical capability of students as practitioner. In this context, this study aims to seek an effective educational method for enhancing practical practice capability of students in landscape architectural design education by using the analysis method employed architectural educations in Korea in measuring student performance criteria. The results of the study suggest international education standard of environmental design course emphasizes the ingenuity of individuals. And integrating the knowledges of diverse fields into education system is necessity. Nowadays, handing over the hard skills emphasized in the past is changing toward fostering soft skills. As a conclusion, educational contents which satisfy the established objects are mostly composed of soft skills such as communication techniques, collectional capability of informations, personal relationships and vocational ethics etc.

The purpose of this study was to survey the citizens for their satisfaction with the outdoor landscape lighting in Gyeongju Historic Areas registered as UNESCO World Cultural Heritage in November 2000 and thereupon, provide for some basic data useful to the design of the outdoor landscape lighting for the cultural properties. As a result of examining the conditions of the outdoor landscape lighting in Wolseong Zone of Anapji, Banwolseong, Dongbu Sajeokji, Cheomseongdae and Gyerim, there were found 391 lighting fixtures of 12 types in Anapji, 138 lightings of 4 types in Banwolseong, 38 lightings of 6 types in Cheomseongdae, 28 lightings of 3 types in Dongbu Sajeokji and 54 lightings of 5 types in Gyerim. As a result of analyzing citizens' satisfaction with the outdoor landscape lighting, it was found that citizens were satisfied more or less with the nightscape image changed by the outdoor landscape lighting; their satisfaction scored 3.836 on average for Anapji on a 5-point Likert type scale, 3.516 for Banwolseong, 3.446 for Dongbu Sajeokji, 3.650 for Cheomseongdae and 3.479 for Gyerim. However, citizens' satisfaction with the originality of the nightscape was generally low: 3.055 for Anapji, 2.914 for Cheomseongdae, 2.877 for Banwolseong, 2.847 for Gyerim and 2.665 for Dongbu Sajeokji. On the other hand, since most of the lighting fixtures were installed as inserted lights or floodlights, the color tones of light source were relatively highly distinctive, but the peripheral spaces around the cultural properties were rather dark, which means that citizens were feeling inconvenient more or less for using the amenities such as bench or waste box. All in all, their satisfaction with the outdoor landscape at the sample zone at night scored 2.981, lower than the normal level.

This study aims to develop the diagnostic evaluation method of the riverine ecobelt for construction, conservation, and maintenance of the riverine ecobelt. The value indices in the proposed evaluation method are composed of total 5 fields and 19 elements. The 5 fields are flood control, environmental function, growth of plants, ecobelt function, and restoration potential. Flood control field is composed of total 3 elements such as length, width, and density of green area. Environmental function field is composed of 4 elements such as park use, landscape boundary and edge, microclimate control, non-point pollution control. Growth of plants field is composed of 6 elements such as species composition, forest height, stratum structure, vine plants, plant vitality, and succession of plants. Ecobelt function field is composed of 4 elements such as longitudinal connectivity, lateral connectivity, in-stream forest or habitat, roads on bank top. Restoration potential field is composed of 2 elements such as landform and land use of the immediate vicinity. The score system ranging 1~4 was adopted. The weighting parameters of elements were unified with each other. The final grade system ranging 1~5(1: very good~5: very bad) was adopted, and the final grade was evaluated by the mean values of each field. According to the test application of the diagnostic evaluation method of the riverine ecobelt, the final grades showed effectively the real condition of each site.

The purpose of this study is to provide a basic datd for establishing a basic park management plan for Bulamsan Urban Nature Park. This research surveys very closely about the present condition of the natural ecosystem based on the examination and analysis of the present condition. This research suggests development and management methods for environment-friendly park by understanding damages on the ecosystem due to overuse, as well as park facilities and their effects on the surrounding environment, using quantative analysis. The three steps: researching the present condition research, ecosystem evaluation, and park management plan were taken in order. The present condition research is based on the general condition, natural environment, and natural ecosystem data. In the ecosystem evaluation, wildlife habitats evaluation, landscape evaluation, and biotope type research which is a materialized form of the plant ecosystem were excuted based on the present condition research data. There are many studies on the health and protection of Old-growth and Giant Trees, concentrating on empirical judgment and basic protection measures. The problem this study addresses is the relative importance and priority of the health evaluation indicators of Old-growth and Giant Trees. Firstly, this study exports the evaluation indicators of Old-growth and Giant Trees. The evaluation system for the degree of danger of Old-growth and Giant Trees are composed of two layers: 5 fields and 46 indicators. Secondly, using the AHP and PCA method can determine the weight of each field and each index factor. The process of AHP establishes the relative importance judgment matrix of each field and fully proves that the main cause of danger is individual aging. The PCA method suggested that trunk rot status, light conditions, tree surgeries, bacterial diseases, and soil moisture level are the most important factors in each field. These aspects should be given priority in the management and protection of Old-growth and Giant Trees. Weight values obtained in this study seemed to be useful in the evaluation of Old-growth and Giant Trees.

The study considers viewpoints for qualitative improvement of landscape planning based on research literature, books and reports. By classifying items used in this study, evaluation criteria was derived for viewpoint selection using SPSS Statistics. In addition, we establish weights and prioritize viewpoints by measuring the relative importance within the hierarchical index. The analysis results are as follows: First, 16 viewpoints were determined using surveys from experts to establish specific and systematic plans for landscape simulation. Second, with respect to the medium classification level of viewpoint evaluation, the most important factor found was 'view' followed by 'publicness' and 'place.' Third, priority by viewpoint was found to exhibit the following order of relative importance: visual openness of viewpoint, favorability as view target, cultural property space, historicity, public place, gateway place, area where the target can be observed, thickly-populated or most-used place, place where various shapes of targets and surrounding landscape can be identified, ecological protection area, river and waterside area, viewing angle (relief-etching), viewing direction, major roads, distance between the viewpoint and the target, and plains and farmland. These results can contribute to developing systematic and reliable analysis frame for qualitative improvement of landscape planning and evaluating landscape simulation.

In landscape studies, the concept of naturalness was vast in its categories from physical space to cognitive systems, making it difficult to define terms at once. Therefore, this study summarized the concept and evaluation attributes of 'naturalness' used in the literature through systematic review (SR), and identified the scope of individual attributes that constitute the meaning of naturalness. In addition, the individual attributes classified in previous studies were identified as the meaning chain, one of the cognitive linguistic research methods, and applied to papers targeting naturalness among domestic landscape studies to organize a polysemous meaning system. Meaning chain is a suitable method for grasping words whose meaning expands in a chain due to family resemblance around prototypical meaning, and the dimension is classified according to the classification of naturalness evaluation items and a multi-semantic chain system of naturalness concepts discussed in domestic academia. The results of the study are as follows. First, the attributes of naturalness extracted through foreign landscape literature were classified into four areas: nature perceived as wilderness, nature as non-artificiality, nature as visual landscape, and nature as experience, and 13 detailed attributes. Second, these detailed attributes are generally consistent with domestic landscape studies, but their specific cases were different, and a Korean context was presented in perception of time accumulation, also they suggested that there may be a mutual conflict between naturalness attributes.

While there have many completions of large parks recently under development, there has been a dearth of quality assessments. Studies focused on post-evaluation have been made to resolve this, but most of these are biased toward user satisfaction after completion and therefore behaviour analysis has limitations on solving problemsduring the actual design implementation processes. Therefore, this study examined the internal phenomenon and structure of the implementation process of design competition through the ground theory and microscopic independent perspective. As a result, maintaining the identity and differentiation of parks derived from the preserved design competition scheme contributed greatly to completeness and satisfaction. Outcomes were mainly caused by the trust of public officials as the ordering organization, the will of policy decision-makers, and the competence of operational enterprises, etc. Negative factors such as undermining the whole concept of the park and landscape occurred as external pressure and related subjects intruded on change design factors due to variations in social conditions. Additionally, illogical construction processes occurred, such as a reinvestigation of the budget for restoration after damaging on original landscape. There have been needs for the improvement of the work processing system. On balance, an interventional role is very important in the park construction process, especially the PA and operation committee in terms of maintaining the basic direction, landscape design supervision for detailed designs, and expert construction management on LA in terms of rational work management in the field. The study, using the microscopic perspective of the designer and ground theory, deliver significant meaning as an early study by suggesting alternative methods for the after-evaluation of large parks and structurally looking into main influence factors driven during the construction process.

This research has a meaning to provide basic data for eco-friendly way of district unit plans and ecological landscape planning by evaluation of biotope preservation value at the level of district unit and designating land development of the site, the whole area of Sinseo-dong (Dong-gu, Daegu metropolitan city) for research site. The summary of analysis result is as follows. As a result of classification of biotope types on the research site, it is divided into 11 biotope groups such as a residential biotope group and 51 specific biotope types which is subordinate to the groups. As a result of the first value assessment on classified biotope types, there are 16 types of natural rivers which is full of vegetation as a I class. Also it is analysed as 9 types of IIclass, 14 of IIIclass, 8 of IVclass, and 4 of Vclass. In particular, in light of a wildlife habitat, EB, in case of broad-leaved tree of mixed forest assessed as a II class, was classified into Iclass which is one-step upgraded as a final class with the analysis as there is a structural characteristic (more than 71% of low density, 50 years of age-class). As a result of second assessment, it is analysed that there are 17 special sites (1a,1b) and 33 special sites (2a, 2b, 2c) respectively for preservation of species and biotope. Particularly, in case of the No. 27 space, it was assessed that it has the value of about medium (IIIclass) level, but its value was upgraded with the on-spot detailed investigation that most of Aristolochia contorta, designated as a rare plant by Ministry of Environment, is growing. It is regarded that the above-mentioned research result on evaluation of biotope preservation value is expected to provide very important basic materials for future district unit plans and smooth integration with landscape ecology plans and eco-friendly space development.
