  • The purpose of this study was to understand landscape edstruction and intrusion problems in national parks in Japan. Literature survey focused on the related journals was attempted for classifying landscape problems in period, cause, regional base. In period base, landscape problems in national parks can be classified into four representative time periods(1960~1967, 1968~1975, 1976~1985 and 1990's). Eight categories, such as dam construction, forest practices, visitor impacts, park planning, and others, were also found as the major causes on landscape destruction. In addition, the survey results showed that these problems have been more concentrated in KANTO(FUJI-HAKONE-IZU, NIKKO National Park) and CHUBU region(CHUBUSANKAKU National Park) than other regions in Japan. This seemed to be caused by increased visitor numbers, development of tourist facilities, forest practices and so on.

  • Recently, has been the subject of high interest in rural areas. However it incite the damage to rural landscape and destruction of the locality. The reason is the economic logic that potential was ignored of community. In the meantime, has thrown out the importance to restore damaged rural landscape. So, pleasant natural environment and community resources to create value. Therefore, the purpose of this research, redefine the value of the future of rural landscape that the community design and community planning is to offer basic data. The results of study are as follows; First, the landscape that all human perception through the senses, so the community planning to landscape the locality of the formation is a very important element. Second, if it build a new building would have to find space in community. So, the plan must reflect the community and the locality, If so the landscape of th community, the building will be imbibe naturally. Third, the rural area of the rural community when planning for past, present and future should be thoroughly analyzed, and for the future direction of the community will be set up. Finally, analyzing correctly past of the community to reconfigure the rural community is very important. When configure the space of rural community, if created the new space based on original characteristic of the community, the landscape will be kept in rural community.

  • This study saw developed to build a landscape monitoring methodology by simulation of landscape effect prediction. A Visual landscape planning and management system has been introduced and implemented by each ministry so as to solve the problems of visual landscape destruction due to recognition on the value of natural landscape of beautiful territory and various development projects. At present, this system emphasizes the importance of the visual and perceptual aspect of the landscape however, there is a lack of techniques required for comprehensively predicting, evaluating, and managing it. Furthermore, sustainable landscape management after the completion of development projects has been inadequately carried out, as the focus has been only on consultation in the planning process of the development project in institutional performance. The viewpoint for judging the change in the visual landscape of the development plan and development project should be selected as the effective point where the development project is expected to result in a remarkable landscape change. As for the method of selecting effective viewpoints, the main viewpoints are selected by analyzing the visible area of the target viewpoint. When selecting the viewpoint centered on the viewpoint target, it was judged that it is possible to reduce the procedure of selecting and checking the existing preliminary viewpoints and widening the effective visible range. The proposed visual landscape monitoring is expected to be able to solve the existing institutional problems, and to be used when the implementers and authors of the development projects review the effects on the landscape.

  • This study aims at conducting an awareness survey of three parties, namely, citizens, government officials, and developers for improvement of urban landscape and, based on the survey result, to suggest a direction to develop a landscape plan for improvement of urban landscape of Yong-in city in the future. The summary of this study is as follows. First, in case of Yong-in, the main drivers of forest landscape destruction were "residential complexes developed for apartment buildings" and "golf courses", the driver of river landscape damage was "the status of cleanliness of riverside and poor facilities", the driver of roadside landscape damage was "construction sites" that completely eliminate original natural landscape in both citizen and government official groups. When granting development-related approvals in the future, appropriate actions should be prepared such as developing a landscape management guideline or including a landscape plan in advance to assure plans and designs fully reflecting landscape. Second, citizens' commitment to participate in urban landscape creation and improvement was rated high at even willing to tolerate regulations including restriction of property rights. In the future, landscape improvement programs allowing resident participation should be developed proactively. The roles of government officials include preparing various criteria at a city level and convincing and guiding citizens to initiate landscape improvement project together with citizens and developers through proactive efforts by government officials. Third, the role of developers would be to realize development projects conserving local environment and/or harmonizing with local natural environment before preparing a development plan or launching construction rather than offering various considerations after executing development projects.

  • The Korean rural landscape has changed significantly due to nationwide modernization and industrialization in recent years. Moreover, as urbanization progresses due to population and economic growth, rural areas surrounding the suburbs of cities are feeling the pressure of encroaching urban sprawl. Use of land for human-made structures such as road and housing development is also increasing, resulting in the destruction of nature in rural areas. Adopting a concept of conserving rural landscape in future development projects is therefore highly desirable. The main focus of this study is to look into the traditional concept of the village and to classify some elements of the traditional rural landscape. Daegu Metropolitan City, the third metropolitan city in Korea, is chosen as the subject of the study. The existing 227 villages have been studied on the basis of their principles and types of village locations in relation to the traditional concepts of 'Feng-shui' and 'Tackriji'. The characteristics of the village location are divided into two aspects: the natural landscape, such as topography, hydrosphere, and azimuth, and the historical and cultural landscape, such as customs(Only the natural landscape aspect is included in this study). The natural landscape, a condition of the village location, is divided into three areas: topography, hydrosphere, and azimuth. There are two types of topography: flatland type and mountain type. There are two sub-types in the mountain type: ridge and valley, which depend on the village location in relation to the shapes of the mountains. There are four types of hydrosphere which include waterways and three directions of mountain depending on the shape: front, behind and side. The direction of the village is analyzed from the direction which the houses in the village face. Therefore, the natural landscape element as a condition of the village location is closely related to the traditional concepts of the village.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate Ozone which we have to contact in our daily lives. Recently Ozone becomes a serious pollutant in the inside and outside. To select th indicator plants or the purifier plants for air pollution caused by ozone, this stud has been conducted with interior landscape plant of 10 species. The results are as follows; 1) The visible demage by Ozone was firstly observed on Viburnum awabuki among 10 species, and it occurred after the lapse of 10, 8 and 4 hours on 0.5, 1.0 and 2.0 ppm ozone treatment, respectively. The first symptom of visible demage appeared on chlorosis or blotting of leaves, then progressed on necrosis of leaves. 2) On the other hand, Litsea japonica and Ardisia japonica were so resistant against Ozone fumigation that they were not demage independently of Ozone concentration till the lapse of 60 hours. 3) Chlorophyll contents were decreased by the increased Ozone concentration. At this time, grana destruction was observed. The most sensitive plant to ozone was Viburnum awabuki, and we suggest that Viburnum awabuki would be possible one to use for the indicator plant. The most resistance plant to Ozone was Litsea japonic and Ardisia japonica, we suggest that Litsea japonica and Ardisia japonica would be possible to use for the purifier plant for Ozone pollution.

  • This study analyzed the consciousness and attitudes of local residents to the development plan of Sobaeksan Jarackgil by applying the social exchange theory to provide basic data for the establishment of the Mountainous Ecology Trail Development Plan, collecting opinions of local residents. For this, we conducted a self-administered questionnaire survey and personal interview targeting 150 residents of seven villages. Summarizing the results, first, because of analyzing the consciousness of the residents, most of the local residents turned out to be aware of the Sobaeksan Jarackgil development plan and agreed on it. Second, as a result of analyzing the consciousness of residents, for attitudes according to gender, females expected more than males of exchanging with visitors and excavation of cultural assets. Furthermore for attitudes according to age, groups aged under 60 turned out to be concerned about the increase of environmental pollutions, rise in crimes, destruction of cultures, and the induction of conflicts among residents. For attitudes according to occupations, farm workers were worried about the destruction of ecology, and for local characteristics and damages to the landscape, all of the local residents turned out to be concerned. It was shown that groups that agreed on the development plan expected positively on most of the items of economic, environmental, and sociocultural aspects, while those that disagreed on the plan were anxious for negative effects such as landscape damages and the increase of environmental pollutions from the environmental point of view, and the induction of conflicts among residents from the point of sociocultural perspective.

  • A Visual landscape planning and management system has been introduced and implemented by each ministry so as to solve the problems of visual landscape destruction due to recognition on the value of natural landscape of beautiful territory and various development projects. To this end, we presented objective and standardized criteria to predict and judge the effects of development projects on landscapes before project implementation. During the implementation of the development project, the influence of the visual landscape becomes accumulated in the construction progress stage. There is a need to identify the main viewpoints and to examine the continuous changes in the landscape-influencing factors, owing to the remarkable influences on the landscape, such as the change in the topography and the change caused by the artificial structure. During the stage of managing the influence on the visual landscape after the completion of the project, the influence on landscape should be monitored by measuring the change in the continuous landscape-influencing factors and determining the extent to which the actual reduction plan has been implemented. These processes should be performed continuously to maintain the quality of the visual landscape. The change in the landscape caused by the development project is shown to cause relatively greater visual damage than other factors composing the landscape owing to the influence of the artificial factors including the structure or the building. This shows that not only detailed examination of the visual impact before the development project but also continuous management is required during and after the development project. For this purpose, we derived eight landscape-influencing factors including form/shape, line, color, texture, scale/volume, height, skyline, and landscape control point. The proposed considering to be of high utilization in that it has a clear target of the landscape influencing factors.

  • Studies on effects of human action on the destruction of ecosystems and changes in biodiversity are being processed actively from the view point of landscape ecology. This study investigated present distribution status of the naturalization plant by disturbance of natural ecosystem which could be seen on 35 rural villages in Korea. The study made a landuse map on the study area then quantified the landscape ecologic characteristic using landscape index based on this landuse map. Correlation between landscape index on the study area and distribution characteristic of naturalization plant was analyzed. The landscape index was calculated by FRAGSTATS, a spatial analysis program, and naturalization index and urbanization index were used in the distribution characteristic of naturalization plant. As a result, naturalization index and patch density, naturalization index and edge density, naturalization index and area-weighted mean shape index were shown as having positive correlation, and naturalization and core area percentage of landscape, naturalization index and mean core area were displayed as having negative correlation.

  • A purpose of this study is to identify the concept formation and classify the diverse concepts which related to Kyoung(景) of Chio Nam-Sun at Korea under Japanese colonial rule (a turning point in the korean history). The cultural policy of th Japanese Government-General was aimed at the destruction of Korean nationalism and racial consciousness and the rapid Japanizatio of the Koreans. In the name of assimilation, Korean language instruction was first simply discouraged while the movement for the use of Japanese was stepped up, the use of the Japanese language was forced upon the Koreans, and textbook revision was carried out in order to develop Shinto nationalism and loyalty to the emperor and the state. The results were as follows; The type of landscape concept was 10 types and had the following frequencies in order; Pung-Kuoung(風景)(42), Kyoung-Chi(景致)(21), Koang-Kyoung(光景)(8), Kyoung-Sung(景勝)(7), Kyoung-Gae(景槪)(5), Kyoung-Goan(景觀)(2), Sung-Kyoung(勝景)(2), Kyoung(景)(2), Sil-Kyoung(實景)(1), Pung-Kyoung-Goan(風景觀)(1). Types of landscape concepts in critical periods were classified into 10 according to the many characteristics; personal situations, cultural policy and education policy of Japanese.
