  • In this paper, an array antenna for LOS datalink for mounting UAV(Unmanned Aerial Vehicle) of low-probability of intercept is presented. For low RCS, radome was designed by conformal form, and other components were inserted into the UAV. The antenna of the transmitter and receiver are each composed of 12×12 array antennas, and include a beam steering function by controlling the phase of the unit element for the Uni-directional pattern and the Bi-directional pattern. As a result of the measurement of the manufactured antenna, it was confirmed that all the required specifications were met, and the installing possibility of the UAV platform on low-probability of intercept in the future was confirmed.

  • This paper discusses the design of self-oscillating mixer type low noise down converter using the microwave field effect transistor. The mixer is consists of local oscillator in which high stability dielectric resonator and band pass filter to get rid of spurious oscillation at intermediate frequency stage. The microstrip antenna was integrated in the same substrate which generate 12.3GHz and low noise amplifier was also added after antenna using 3 stage of high electron mobility transistors. The output frequency from the local oscillator was chosen as 11.3GHz for the Ku-band application. The measured phase noise was -804dBc/Hz at 100kHz offset frequency, and the gain was 7~12dB in frequency range from 12.0GHz to 12.7GHz. The noise figure at intermediate frequency stage was 64H. The designed model shows less conversion loss than previous diode type mixer. The proposed mixer can be used in digital satellite broadcasting and communication system and expected to use in next generation low noise block design.

  • In this paper, we studied the derivation method of isoflux radiation for a planar array antenna. The presented array antenna was designed for considering of 1U-sized CubeSAT with Ku-band communications. For the presented array antenna, 8×8 radiating elements were arranged, and the distance between radiating elements was set of half-wavelength. The excited current weighting for each radiating elements was calculated by the signal processing technique used in the design of the low-pass filter. As a result of analysis of the method proposed in this paper, it was confirmed that a seamless isoflux pattern can be derived.

  • A shaped Cassegrain antenna is designed from the condition of the same path length at the equi-phase surface by using the conservation of energy and Snell's law. In order to improve the phase error efficiency of aperture surface, the surface profile of the main and sub-reflectors is found to satisfy the power distribution and the equi-phase condition at the aperture surface. The sidelobe levels of 36.4 dB and 33.9 dB are achieved at the AZ and EL planes, respectively from numerical calculation by physical optics method at Ku band and the directivity of designed antenna is 10 percent greater than that of conventional antenna.

  • In this paper, higher order coupler using small size waveguide which applicable for mobile Ku-band multimode monopulse satellite tracking antenna system, has been designed, implemented and tested. Proposed higher order mode coupler adopts a coaxial structure for low profile characteristic considering installation property to mobile satellite terminal system. In addition, by using proposed coupler, extracted tracking error signal pattern has measured and confirmed that required tracking accuracy is satisfied in desired frequency band. In the future, proposed coupler could utilize for multimode monopulse satellite tracking system for high tracking accuracy.

  • In this paper, the corrugated horn antenna used in the reflector feed horn of satellite is analyzed using the modal expansion method. The modal expansion method is represented by the summations of modals at each point so the exact prediction of field and phase patterns can be obtained. The least number of iterations to compute field patterns is proposed. By using this number. calculation of accurate near and far field patterns without comsuming a lot of computational effort is available. Three kinds of corrugated horn antenna is designed to verify the method and experimented. The VSWR of designed frequency is from 1.04 to 1.1. The input impedance is nearly matched to $50\Omega$.

  • This paper presents a single antenna radar sensor with a Ku-band radar transceiver IC realized by 130 nm CMOS processes. In this radar receiver, sensitivity time control using a DC offset cancellation feedback loop is employed to achieve a constant SNR, irrespective of distance. In addition, the receiver RF block has gain control to adjust high dynamic range. The RF output power is 9 dBm and the full chain gain of the Rx is 82 dB. To reduce the direct-coupled Tx signal to the Rx in a single antenna radar, a stub-tuned hybrid coupler is adopted instead of a bulky circulator. The maximum measured distance between the horn antenna and a metal plate target is 6 m.

  • The land mobile antenna for two-way communication using geostationary satellite consists of a transmitting and receiving systems. The transmitting system plays the role of sending the signal to the satellite while the receiving system does the role of receiving signal from the satellite and tacking the target satellite. Especially, the land mobile antenna for satellite communication must be met with the international regulation such as antenna pattern, transmitting power and tracking error to protect the damage of the neighbor satellites. On the other hand, this paper thoroughly examined a receiving system to satisfy a stable satellite tracking performance and antenna pattern specified by the international regulation for Ku-band geostationary satellite.

  • A $Y_1Ba_2Cu_3O_{7-\delta}$ square spiral microstrip antenna (YBCO antenna) was epitaxially grown on a $LaAlO_3$ substrate by laser ablation. Also fabricated was a gold square spiral microstrip antenna (gold antenna) having the same structure as that of the YBCO antenna in order to compare the properties of both antennas. Both the YBCO antenna and the gold antenna were operated in Ku (12-18 GHz) band, and their properties such as the return loss, SWR, power gain, and radiation patterns were investigated at 77 K. The return loss below -10 dB was obtained in two frequency ranges, i.e., 14.05-14.90 GHz, and 16-18 GHz for the YBCO antenna at 77 K (YBCO superconducting antenna), and in the frequency range of 15.05-17.60 GHz for the gold antenna at 77 K. The SWR bandwidths are 0.85 GHz and 2 GHz for the YBCO superconducting antenna, and 2.55 GHz for the gold antenna at 77 K. The gain improvement of the superconducting YBCO antenna over the gold antenna at 77 K was about 10 dB in the frequency range of 16 GHz to 18 GHz. The radiation patterns show the YBCO superconducting antenna has the omni-directional property of a spiral antenna.
