  • Electronic Ink is a stored data in the form of the handwritten text or the script without converting it into ASCII by handwritten recognition on the pen-based computers and Personal Digital Assistants(PDAs) for supporting natural and convenient data input. One of the most Important issue is to search the electronic ink in order to use it. We proposed and implemented a script matching algorithm for the electronic ink. Proposed matching algorithm separated the input stroke into a set of primitive stroke using the curvature of the stroke curve. After determining the type of separated strokes, it produced a stroke feature vector. And then it calculated the distance between the stroke feature vector of input strokes and one of strokes in the database using the dynamic programming technique. We did various experiments and our algorithm showed high matching rate over 97.7% for only the Korean script and 94% for the data mixed Korean with the Chinese character.

  • Objectives : This paper aims to understand the meaning and utilitarian values of 'Jongyong(從容)' in medicine by studying its meaning in the 『Huangdineijing』. Methods : Examples of 'Jongyong(從容)' usages in Chinese literature and classical texts were studied first. Next, the similarities and characteristics of its contexts in discourses between Leigong and Huangdi were examined, followed by further examination of the overall meanings of the six chapters, 「Shicongronglunpian(示從容論篇)」, 「Zhuzhijiaolunpian(著至敎論篇)」, 「Shuwuguolunpian(疏五過論篇)」, 「Zhengsishilunpian(徵四失論篇)」, 「Yinyangleilunpian(陰陽類論篇)」, 「Jiejingweilunpian(解精微論篇)」 and the verses that include 'Jongyong(從容).' Results : Generally 'Jongyong(從容)' describes a resilient attitude that responds appropriately and calmly to difficult external situations while maintaining one's character, or refers to one's general behavior. In the 『Huangdineijing』, 'Jongyong(從容)' is only mentioned in discourses between Leigong and Huangdi, which talks about ancient East Asian clinical medicine in general, its transmission and education. Here, the meaning of 'Jongyong(從容)' could be summarized as an expansion of analogical thinking[引比類], medical work that involves the physician's commitment(人事), and detailed measurement of yinyang difference in the body(刑法, 陰陽, 治數). Discussion : In ancient East Asian medicine, the meaning of 'Jongyong(從容)' is closer to measurement of the yinyang difference rather than differentiation of the five element analogy. It is a medical practice that measures the shape, volume, length, area, height, concentration etc. of the human body in numerical figures to allow for the most subtle comparison, which was an important aspect of the physician's work that needed to be demonstrated, educated and transmitted to later generations to enable continuity of the medical profession.

  • The purpose of this study is to compare the difference between Beijing and Seoul in women's winter street fashion, and suggest strategic methods to improve new competitiveness of the Korean fashion industry. The research was conducted by literature review and empirical research and photographs of winter street style were directly taken by a digital camera from December 28, 2008 to January 8, 2009. The survey was made at 9~11 A.M., 12~1 P.M., and 3~5 P.M. during midweek and weekend. Then 530 photographs(265 each city) of women of the 20s and 30s were selected by random sampling and five fashion professional including this researcher classified styles in accord with majority opinion on careful investigation. The results of comparing the 2008 winter street fashion in Beijing and Seoul show the highest frequency of easy casual style. In detail, while high frequency was found in romantic, classic, feminine, and romantic casual style in Seoul, easy casual and character casual style was prevalent in Beijing. The same frequency of sport casual style illustrates no differences between two cities. Unlike the prediction of the fashion industry that the preference of sport casual style would be increased under the influence of the Beijing Olympics 2008, high preference of easy casual reflects that Chinese women were more sensitive to the changes of their consumption trend. In clothing color, the achromatic color was prevalent in street style in Seoul, whereas multi-color were preferred in Beijing, suggesting a great difference. In the case of accessories, both areas preferred a tot bag but Beijing women preferred active shoulder bag and cross bag in sport casual style. Seoul women preferred pumps and sneakers, whereas Beijing women liked boots of different length according to style.

  • The portrait featuring Jo Ban(1341-1401), a scholar-official from the late Goryeo and early Joseon period, and his wife is the oldest surviving couple portrait in Korea. It is of great value in uncovering the clothing culture of the period given the limited number of historical artifacts and records. This study examines the historical clothing and textile patterns of Jo Ban's wife and reproduces them using 3D fashion design software program CLO. She wears jokduri, chima, and baeja over layers of jeogori, a mixture of traditional Korean and Chinese styles. Her clothing illustrates eight patterns-one flower, five geometric, and two cloud. Records and relics of similar periods show that flower and geometric patterns in her clothing follow the prevailing styles of Goryeo, while the cloud patterns are representative of early Joseon. These details are used to reproduce six different styles of Jo Ban's wife with CLO tools. Various visualizations of textile patterns are applied to materials, generating a more realistic look than her existing 3D character created with the portrait. Results of this study are expected to help promote the use of Goryeo clothing and patterns in numerous designs and enhance intuitive understanding of Goryeo clothing based on 3D visualization.

  • This study focuses on the interpretation and transformation of "The Great Learning" within the Korean new religion, Daesoon Jinrihoe. Joseon Dynasty Korea was a member of the Chinese Character Cultural Sphere in East Asia. The examination and recruitment system of the Yuan Dynasty influenced the Joseon Dynasty for a long historical period. Zhu Xi's (朱熹) version of The Four Books were accepted and applied in imperial examinations during the Joseon Dynasty. The 18th century Confucian thinker, Jeong Yak-Yong (丁若鏞), overturned and rebuilt his own system for studying and interpreting The Four Books (四書學). Zhu Xi and Jeong Yak-Yong's systems of thought influenced Confucianism knowledge in that era. The historical figure deified as the Supreme God by Daesoon Jinrihoe, Kang Jeungsan (姜甑山), was trained in the study of The Four Books within that cultural and philosophical context, and this is especially evident in his interpretation and transmission of "The Great Learning." Kang Jeungsan regarding The Great Learning as deeply important. That text combined Confucian discourse on Principle, Mind, and Practice. In his interpretation, The Great Learning was also a medical and religious book that had holy and mysterious powers. In Mugeuk-do and Taegeuk-do (direct predecessors to Daesoon Jinrihoe), Jo Jeongsan interpreted the concept of Sincerity and Regularizing the Mind and incorporated them into doctrine as 'Sincerity, Respectfulness, and Faithfulness' and 'Guarding against Self-deception.' Park Wudang practiced and spread those doctrines to Korea, and Daesoon Jinrihoe devotees continue to follow those doctrines in present times.
