Purpose: The purpose of this study was to develop a scale to assess immigrant women's needs for pregnancy and postpartum adaptation and to test the reliability and validity of the scale. Methods: To construct scale items, critical issues and difficulties associated with pregnancy and postpartum adaptation of immigrant women were identified and categorized through a literature review. Fifty-two scale items were constructed, and data for validity and reliability testing was collected with a questionnaire survey from 367 immigrant women. Data were analyzed with descriptive statistics, factor analysis, and reliability coefficients. Results: The final measurement scale to assess immigrant women's pregnancy and postpartum adaptation consisted of 48 items and 7 factors (adaptation to daily activity during pregnancy, cross-cultural understanding and personal respect, understanding of the process of pregnancy and delivery, baby rearing and family support, physical and emotional adaptation after childbirth, nutrition during pregnancy, and sexual life adaptation). The seven factors accounted for 64.26% of the variance, and Cronbach's ${\alpha}$ was .96. Conclusion: The scale developed by this study is a reliable and valid instrument and can be used to assess needs of pregnancy and postpartum adaptation and can be utilized in providing nursing interventions for immigrant women.
This study was aim to provide rheumatoid arthritis patients the basic data of development of nursing intervention to help psychosocial adaptation of rheumatoid arthritis patients as exploring the relationship among causal perception, coping pattern, psychosocial adaptation of rheumatoid arthritis. As the results of this study the mean score of causal perception of the subjects was 3.37. The score of the internal-unstable was the highest. which was followed by extra-stable, internal factor, internal-stable, external factor and external-unstable in order among the factor of causal perception. The mean score of coping pattern was 2.64. The type of coping patterns the score of the receptive coping was the highest, which was followed by wishful coping active coping and negative coping in order among the type of coping pattern. The mean score of psychosocial adaptation was 3.28. The subconcept of psychosocial adaptation the score for personal relationship was the highest, which was followed by role function and mental state in order among the psychosocial adaptation. The analysis of the relation among causal perception, coping pattern and psychosocial adaptation showed significant negative correlation between causal perception and psychosocial adaptation(r=-0.3219, P=0.002). The analysis of the relation between the type of coping pattern and psychosocial adaptation showed significant negative correlation between psychosocial adaptation and active coping(r=-0.3210, P=0.002), negative coping(r=-0.2296, P=0.032). Only causal perception(-.36) and period of illness(-.26) effected on the psychosocial adaptation were shown to the negative direction significantly. The psychosocial adaptation was explained the 17% by these two variables. Based on this study results the factor of causal perception and the type of coping pattern of rheumatoid arthritis were shown significant relations between psychosocial adaptation. We suggests that nurses in practice apply to assessing the factor of causal perception of individuals illness and the type of coping patterns when nursing interventions in rheumatoid arthritis patients.

The purpose of this study was to test the mediated effects of emotional regulation in the relations between maternal parenting and children's adaptation to school life of elementary school students. Three-hundred Seven elementary school students completed the maternal parenting scale, the emotional regulation scale, and the adaptation to school life scale. In order to find to identify how maternal parenting, emotional regulation were related with their adaptation to school life, Pearson correlation coefficients were used in the computation. To examine the effects of maternal parenting, emotional regulation on adaptation to school life, multiple regression analyses were conducted. To examine whether emotional regulation as a mediating variable in the process that maternal parenting is influencing children's adaptation to school life, hierarchical regression analyses were performed. The results of this study were summarized as follows. First, the analysis of the relationship of maternal parenting, emotional regulation with adaptation to school life shows that there is a significant positive correlation between maternal parenting, emotional regulation and adaptation to school life. Second, in the multiple regression analysis with maternal parenting and emotional regulation as a predictor and adaptation to school life as an outcome variable it has been shown that the emotional regulation were significant in adaptation to school life, but maternal parenting were not significant in adaptation to school life. The higher the emotional regulation is the better can children adapt themselves to school life. Third, the analysis on the mediating effects of emotional regulation in the relationship of maternal parenting and adaptation to school life showed that emotional regulation full mediates the relationship of maternal parenting with adaptation to school life.

Objectives: This study was conducted to analyze the mediating effect of self-identity on the relationship between aggression and school life adaptation of early adolescents. Methods: This study used the 5th-year data of the Korean Children & Youth Panel Survey (KCYPS) including 159 middle school 2nd students from single-parent families. The data was analyzed with open source statistics program R 3.5.0 to determine whether self-identity had a mediating effect on school life adaptation as an independent variable. Results: A moderate correlation was found among aggression, self-identity, and school life adaptation. As a result of the Sobel test, self-identity of early adolescents demonstrated a significant mediating effect on the relationship between aggression and school life adaptation. Conclusions: Given the significant mediating factor of self-identity, the strategies for early adolescents to boost their overall school life adaptation should be considered through intervention programs that help to enhance their self-identity.
A novel envelope extraction algorithm for speech processor of cochlear implants, called adaptation algorithm, was developed which is based on a adaptation effect of the inner hair cell(IHC)/auditory nerve(AN) synapse. We achieved acoustic simulation and hearing experiments with 12 normal hearing persons to compare this adaptation algorithm with existent standard envelope extraction method. The results shows that speech processing strategy using adaptation algorithm showed significant improvements in speech recognition rate under most channel/noise condition, compared to conventional strategy We verified that the proposed adaptation algorithm may yield better speech perception under considerable amount of noise, compared to the conventional speech processing strategy.
In this paper, we propose a transformation based robust adaptation technique that uses the maximum mutual information(MMI) estimation for the objective function and the linear spectral transformation(LST) for adaptation. LST is an adaptation method that deals with environmental noises in the linear spectral domain, so that a small number of parameters can be used for fast adaptation. The proposed technique is called MMI-LST, and evaluated on TIMIT and FFMTIMIT corpora to show that it is advantageous when only a small amount of adaptation speech is used.
This study is aimed at analyzing the characteristics of adaptation to college life among freshmen of D University by utilizing the DEU-GRIT test. To achieve this, we examined differences in level of college life adaptation according to gender and major, and explored the characteristics of college life adaptation among college freshmen who were clustered based on their level of academic, social, emotional, and career adaptation, which is an important factor in adaptation to college life. Moreover, based on the DEU-GRIT test standards, we also explored the characteristics of their college life adaptation by sorting out low level groups of freshmen with difficulties adapting. The results demonstrated that male students had a higher level of emotional adaptation than female students, and that science and technology majors had higher levels of academic and emotional adaptation than students in the humanities and society majors. Furthermore, a cluster analysis based on 4 factor levels of college life adaptation showed that cluster 1 had a high level of adaptability to all factors, but cluster 3 had a low level of adaptability to all factors. Moreover, while cluster 2 showed a high level of emotional adaptation, cluster 4 showed a low level of emotional adaptation. On the other hand, a lower-standard group of DEU-GRIT tests showed that the level of academic adaptation and social adaptation was higher among female students than among male students. However, the overall level of college life, academic, and emotional adaptation were higher among science and technology students than among those majoring in humanities and social studies. In addition, a cluster analysis based on the level of 4 factors of college life adaptation of lower-standard groups showed that cluster 1 of the lower-standard groups had a high level of emotional adaptation, while cluster 2 of the lower-standard groups had a low level of emotional and career adaptation and a high level of academic and social adaptation. Also, cluster 3 of the lower-standard groups was found to have low levels of all factors, and cluster 4 of the lower-standard groups showed low levels of social and emotional adaptation and high levels of academic and career adaptation. This indicates that, in terms of social and emotional adaptation among freshmen, participation in psychological counseling programs tailored according to gender is necessary and, regarding the major, relative emotional intervention is required due to the high and low expectations of job prospects. In conclusion, the emotional and social adaptation to college life among the lower-level groups is likely to serve as a protective factor for college life adaptation, suggesting that specific intervention should be contemplated.

Purpose : This study investigated the effects of personality and sensory processing on college life adaptation in students majoring in occupational therapy. Methods : We conducted a survey study on 251 college students from March to May 2023. Personality, sensory processing, and college life adaptation were measured through the international personality item pool, adolescent/adult sensory profile, and student adaptation to college questionnaire, respectively. The general characteristics of students were analyzed using frequency analysis, and differences in college life adaptation and sensory processing characteristics were analyzed using independent t-tests and one-way ANOVA. The relationship between personality, sensory processing, and college life adaptation scores was analyzed using Pearson correlation analysis. The impact of personality and sensory processing on college life adaptation was analyzed using multivariate regression analysis using SPSS 25.0. Results : Correlations of all five personality factors, except openness to experience, were observed with students' college life adaptation. According to sensory processing characteristics, differences in college life adaption showed significant differences in sensory avoidance, poor registration, and sensory sensitivity. The variance of college life adaptation explained by each factor (based on R2) were 46% by personality and 26% by sensory processing. Among personality traits, neuroticism had a negative effect on college life adaptation, agreeableness and extroversion had positive effects, and low registration during sensory processing had a negative effect. Conclusion : This study suggests the provision of various activities and creation of an environment for college students with low sensory registration and neurotic traits to encourage positive changes. The results can be used to design a program that helps college students adapt to occupational therapy majors.
Purpose: This study was undertaken to obtain the basic data on the spouses‘ stress and adaptation caring their wives affected by gynecological cancer. In addition, moderating variables for adaptation, family resource and situational definition, were also investigated. Method: This study was descriptive survey research work by questionnaire on the 71 spouses hospitalized in an university hospital located on Gwangju from Sep. 2001 to Oct. 2002. Results: The mean score of stress was 2.27, and the mean score of adaptation was 3.12. The correlation between stress and adaptation was significant (r = -.692, p = .000). The adaptation score of high stress group with high family resource was higher (p = .041) than the group with low family resource. The adaptation score of high stress group with high situational definition was higher (p = .033) than the group with low situational definition. Conclusion: This study showed that the spouses experienced a similar level of stress compared with the level of families with other type of cancer. This study also showed that the stress and adaptation levels were different depending upon the family resource and situational definition. This aspect should be considered for the development of nursing intervention program for the spouse of patients with gynecological cancer.
This study examined positive and negative marital factors on social adaptation to South Korea among North Korean refugees. In terms of previous studies, family variables play an important role in the adaptation to new society among refugees. We analyzed three major marital factors of marriage background, dyadic adjustment, and marital violence. Marital factors consisted of place of birth, place of marriage, dyadic consensus, dyadic satisfaction, dyadic cohesion, emotional violence, physical violence, and sexual violence. We analyzed the data of 295 North Korean refugees who resided in Seoul, Gyeonggi province and Incheon using snowballing sampling. The result indicated that the refugees married to non-Korean partners (including Korean-Chinese, Chinese, or Russian) are more likely to suffer in social adaptation. Place of marriage (whether the couple got married before escaping, during the escape or after living in South Korea) did not have a significant impact. Dyadic satisfaction was helpful in social adaptation, while sexual violence had a negative effect. The findings of this study suggest alternatives for more successful social adaptation by North Korean refugees to South Korea, a need for more services that target married couples and families rather than individuals, and suggestions for the use of counselors who are also North Korean refugees.
