Purpose: This study was performed to evaluate Korean nurses' knowledge about hereditary colorectal cancer (HCRC). Methods: A modified 15-item HCRC knowledge questionnaire was developed based on previous research. One hundred and forty-eight nurses have completed the questionnaire from February to April, 2011. Results: The average score of nurses' knowledge was $11.25{\pm}1.54$. Ninety-seven percent of nurses knew about colonoscopy check up schedule and family pedigree. However, only 20% of nurses knew about the rate of passing on mutation genes to offspring and risk of developing CRC among carriers. Only 13.5% of nurses had previous genetic education experiences. Working in oncology units, taking care of CRC patients, and participating in genetic education were not associated with nurses' HCRC knowledge. Conclusion: Various factors influence nurses' knowledge about HCRC. Repeated study with larger national sample of nurses is recommended to identify the factors affecting nurses' knowledge level in order to develop efficient genetic education programs for HCRC patients and their families by nurses.

Purpose: This ethnographic study was conducted to explore and understand the meaning of the daily life of nurses in emergency departments. Objectives for this study were to identify and describe the true nature of emergency room nurses' daily experience and create a theoretical model based on the findings. Methods: Data were collected through in-depth interviews and participants observation. These data were recorded and transcribed verbatim with consent of the informants, 10 nurses who had cared for patients in emergency rooms. Data were collected between November 2013 and October 2014. Interviews continued until no new information could be identified from transcripts. Data were analyzed using the taxonomic analysis method developed by Spradley. Results: Based on the data acquired from interviews, nurses' cultural domains were classified as 'extensity of emergency room nurses', 'temporality of emergency room nurses', 'relationships among emergency room nurses' and 'becoming an emergency room nurses'. Conclusion: The daily culture of emergency room nurses could be summarized as 'busy daily life amidst confusion'. However, many nurses boosted their self-esteem by taking care of patients' collaboration with fellow nurses. Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify the relationship between emotional intelligence and stress coping of nurses in hospitals. Method: The study was a descriptive-correlational study with a convenience sample of 298 nurses. Descriptive statistics t-test, Mann-Whitney U, One-way ANOVA and Pearson correlation coefficients were used for data analysis. Results: The results of this study were as follows; Emotional intelligence was higher in married nurses than unmarried nurses (t=-2.90, p=.004). Nurses with a clinical career of 4~7 years had better stress coping than nurses with shorter careers (F=5.60, p=.004). Ward nurses better stress coping than nurses in emergency rooms and Intensive care units (F=4.43, p=.013). Fixed shift nurses had better stress coping than nurses on rotation shifts (t=-2.37, p=.019). There was a significant positive correlation between emotional intelligence and stress coping(r=.29, p<.001). Conclusion: The results indicate that stress coping is better in nurses with higher emotional intelligence, 4~7 year clinical experience, working on ward a as well as having a fixed shift. However further development and application of programs which can improve nurses' emotional intelligence are needed.
Purpose: This study was to compare job stress and job satisfaction between ward nurses and outpatient nurses, and to identify the correlation between job stress and job satisfaction. Methods: The subjects of this study were 200 ward nurses and 85 outpatient nurses in G and I University Hospital in Incheon. The data were collected in March 2010 and analyzed with t-test and Pearson correlation coefficient. Results: There was no significant difference in overall job stress between two groups, but slightly higher stress level for ward nurses. In sub-area of job stress, 'nursing duty' was primary for both groups. And in 'nursing duty' (t=2.05, p=.041), 'conflict with patients' (t=2.73, p= .007), and 'working environment' (t=3.37, p<.001) ward nurses showed significant higher level of stress than outpatient nurses. For job satisfaction, outpatient nurses showed higher level significantly (t=-2.98, p=.003). And both groups of nurses' job satisfaction was negatively correlated with job stress significantly (r=-.31, p<.001). Conclusion: It will be possible to reduce job stress and promote job satisfaction level for both groups of nurses by adding staffs, and specifically for ward nurses by improving facilities for relax and appropriate supply, and for outpatient nurses by managing interpersonal stress and reducing side tasks.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to examine job recognition of female nurses and perceived image of male nurses, and to investigate predictive factors affecting this perceived image. Methods: A survey was conducted between September and October 2015 with 143 female clinical nurses who worked at hospitals. Data were analyzed using the SPSS 21.0 correlation and multiple regression analyses. Results: The findings of this study were as follows : Female nurses recognition had positive correlations with images of male nurses. Social image(r=.41, p<.001), professional image(r=.45, p<.001), and nursing job prospects(r=.49, p<.001) were significantly correlated with perceived image of male nurses. Nursing job prospect(${\beta}=.193$, p=.049), perception that male nurses were suitable for their jobs(${\beta}=.329$, p<.001), mass media experience related to male nurses(${\beta}=.244$, p<.001), social image(${\beta}=.225$, p=.009) and professional image(${\beta}=.191$, p=.021) explained 42.7% of the variance in image of male nurses. Conclusions: The findings of this study suggest that nursing education and research should find concrete ways to improve perceived image of male nurses. It will enhance the quality of nursing service by improving male nurses' communication and collaboration with female nurses.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to compare the working status and Standard Shiftwork Index (SSI) between night shift-fixed nurses and rotating shift nurses. Methods: Participants were 367 nurses working as registered nurses at 7 different medical institutions. The data were collected from August 8, 2016 to September 30, 2016. Results: Night shift fixed nurses were more satisfied with work schedule than rotating shift nurses. Rotating shift nurses reported higher SSI scores, such as chronic fatigue, musculoskeletal problems, than night shift fixed nurses. In SSI's sub-items, rotating shift nurses reported higher scores, such as the amount of sleep, feeling well after sleep, heartburn or stomach-ache and heartbeat irregularities, than night shift fixed nurses. Conclusion: The results indicated that night shift fixed system might be an effective method to improve nurses' work satisfaction. It is necessary to figure out any suitable night shift fixed system based on the characteristics of each nursing organization. The SSI might be an useful tool to measure the nurses' satisfaction in reference to their work shift.
Purpose: This study was aimed to compare nursing competency, self-esteem, and job stress between floating nurses and clinical nurses. Methods: The data were collected between October $1^{st}$ and December $31^{st}$, 2015, from 43 floating nurses and 57 clinical nurses working at a tertiary care hospital in Seoul. The collected data were analyzed with SPSS/WIN 23.0, using descriptive statistics and the t-test, $x^2$ test, ANCOVA, ANOVA, $Scheffe{\acute{e}}$ test, Pearson correlation coefficients, and Stepwise multiple regression. Results: The nursing competency of clinical nurses was significantly higher than that of floating nurses (F=4.370, p=.039). For both floating and clinical nurses, nursing competency was positively correlated with self-esteem (floating nurses, r=.47, p=.002; clinical nurses, r=.62, p<.001). Also, For both floating and clinical nurses, the most significant predictor of nursi ng competency was self-esteem(floating nurses, ${\beta}=0.45$, p=.001; clinical nurses, ${\beta}=0.60$, p<.001). Conclusi on: Efforts are needed to increase the nursing competency of the floating nurse through the improvement of the floating system, the nursing work environment, and continuous education. Also, as self- esteem is the most effective predictor of nursing competence, nursing intervention is needed to improve self-esteem of the floating nurse.
