  • The study was carried out to analyze election regionalism and to find out the spatial pattern of party support drawn in the 18th general election. Strongly biased pattern found to be caused by party strategies and voting behaviour preferring for the local party. Each party employed the strategies such as tactical and nepotic nomination, regional development pledges, and local instigation of regionalism. In consciousness survey done by the National Election Commission, primarily people tend to choose the representative by his(her) party and secondly, they consider their carrier and occupation. They vote for the same party in the local district and proportional representation. While election regionalism strongly found in voting behaviour of each party's main strongholds based on spatial pattern of major party support, voters of Seoul and Chungbuk tend to vote for their interests due to regional development pledges such as 'Newtown' Development and 'Multifunctional Administrative City' construction.

  • This study aims to review the existing forms and farmers'perception of the agricultural dry stonewalls under agricultural environment, based on the case of Hado-ri, Gujwa-eup, Jeju Province. The study results are as follows: First, agricultural dry stonewalls in Hado-ri are most external walls, many of which are curvy. Concrete walls have recently shown up to enclose fields. Second, the height of agricultural dry stonewalls varies according to the location, and their length was calculated 16.514km(two farming region) based on a field survey and numerical cadastral maps. Third, farmers in Hado-ri perceive a great need for agricultural dry stonewalls. This means that agricultural dry stonewalls have a sustainable value despite rapid social change. Fourth, the methods for the sustainable preservation of agricultural dry stonewalls involve improving eco-friendly agricultural environment for the stonewalls, building database by village about them, carrying out their transformation and building according to promulgated ordinances, promoting the value of the stonewalls to Jeju citizens, and educating them to perceive the value of the stonewalls.

  • The propose of this research paper is to clarify the formative process of the lake-like swamps formed in channels of Nakdong-gang river and its tributary, Gumho-gang river. In order to understand the formative process of lake-like swamps, I compared topographical maps of three years(1918, 1962, 2005), analyzed the outline change of swamps, and draw their cross-sectional view and analyzed the horizontal distribution of particle size. Results of analysis are as follow. First, Saegang swamp and Geumgang swamps are residual swamps which are formed in abandoned distributary channels of braided reach. In braided reach, tributaries wind freely to create a new channel or to eliminate a old channel. Second, the Ssiksil swamp and Nat swamp are yazoo-type swamps. Their stream channels run parallel to the natural levees, as it blocks the waterway of a effluent tributary flowing from backward mountains to main stream. Third, the Secheon, Hochon and Jinchon swamps are backswamp behind natural levee. As main stream overflows, natural levee and back swamp are formed. Later flowing water of next bigger flood enter through natural levee into backswamp, create a channel following backswamp.

  • A validation study has been performed using the Soil and Water Assessment Tool(SWAT) model with data collected for the Neponset River watershed, which includes roughly 130 square miles of land located southwest of Boston. All of this land drains into the Neponset River, and ultimately into Boston Harbor. This paper presents the methodology of a SWAT model. The calculated contribution of the baseflow to the streamflow is far too high whereas the interflow is strongly underestimated. Alternatively, the modified and calibrated model yields far better results for the catchment. The modification allows hydrological processes to be modeled while not restraining the applicability of the model to catchments with other characteristics. For this study, the SWAT 2005 model is used with ArcGIS 9.1 as an interlace, and sensitivity analysis is performed to provide rough estimated values before adjusting sensitive input parameters during calibration period.

  • The hardness and physical properties of soils were measured in hiking trails of Mt. Halla and Darangshiorum in Jeju Island to examine the characteristics and formative factors of an aquiclude induced by human trampling. The soil hardness, being generally the highest on trails, decreases outward and shows the lowest on adjacent slopes in a natural condition. The bulk density and solid phase also demonstrates a similar tendency, then implying that the aquiclude occurs in the central part of trails. Although the formation of a hard layer in trails is fundamentally attributed to human trampling, the environmental factors such as landform, lithology, soil and vegetation play a role in the occurrence of the aquiclude. Soil compaction varies with the gradient and location of trails which affects a transport and deposition of soil particles to produce a hard layer. Soil compaction also depends on the physical properties of soils including the soil texture largely affected by lithology. Vegetation is not directly related with the formation of a hard layer, but affects its dimensions through an enlargement rate of bare trails depending on the response and resistance of plants to human trampling.

  • In both elections of 1997 and 2001, Tony Blair of the Labour Party won #10 of Downing Street. This political success had to do with regionalism and was particular due to the devolution policy that was supported by non English citizens. However, there are negative voices about this policy which tries to cope with regional conflicts by decentralizing the central political power. The paper aims to examine the current regionalism movements and the devolution policy in Britain. For this purpose, the nation-building processes of the United Kingdom and various reactions to these processes, especially regional ethnic conflicts are discussed. And the study finally investigates the future perspectives of the devolution policy and its implications for both regionalism and the national-regional developments in Britain.

  • The granites in the Gyeongju area are represented by the Namsan granites and the Tohamsan granodiorites. In this study I examined the geomorphological and geological characteristics of the granite landforms in the Gyeongju area. Joint, tor and corestones are most identifiable geomorphological and geological structure in the study areas. Tor in the Namsan granites is well developed and mainly composed of cubic corestones. Petrographical features of the stones used for the stone-built cultural properties are compared with those of the granites cropped out nearby. Additionally radiogenic element contents (K, Th, U) were acquired for comparison by gamma-ray spectrometer analysis. Most stones from the stone-built cultural properties in the Bulguksa Temple are very similar to the Namsan granites in terms of petrography, radiogenic elements. On the contrary almost all stones from the Seokguram Grotto share common petrographical, physical and chemical characteristics with the Tohamsan granodiorites. Therefore it can be suggested that the stones in the Bulguksa Temple were supplied from Namsan, and that the stones in the Seokgurarn Grotto were collected at nearby Tohamsan.

The analyses were carried out by 5 spa destinations located in Choongchung area. The results were as followings: first, considering the image similarity, the image of Suanbo & Onyang and Dogo & Asan were similar except for the Yusung. Second, considering the attribute recognition, Yusung had a stronger attribute reflecting spa tradition when compared to other competitive spa destinations. Onyang showed a strong attribute of facilities. Dogo had a stronger point about use cost. Suanbo had relatively strong attributes in terms of facilities, customer service, and accessability. However, the water quality of spa destination and activities were not reflected in attribute recognition because these two attributes was farthest from the spa destination. Third, considering the preference of selecting spa destinations, package tourists had a strong preference about Yusung, individual tourists, family, incentive tourists prefer Suanbo, followed by Dogo and Yusung. Group tourists had a strong preference about Dogo.
