Focusing on the cases applied to korean brand-name apartments In 1960s, economical growth and introduction of western-type cultures led to a boom of apartment construction. After internationalization'in 1980s through Olympic games in 1988, korean culture has attracted attention and individual life quality has been improved. Since 1990s, changes in personal life style has affected the housing culture and the construction companies started moving from quantitative supply to developing their own differential characteristics. Differentiation scheme triggered by construction companies since mid-1990s mainly focused on various ideas for space deployment. Space plans include such things as a private ground, a kitchen in the south, etc. while interior plans include to provide selection of the korean traditional style, natural or casual one. 'korean traditional style' apartment is one of such theme of the brand-named apartment. Interests on 'Tradition' can be broken down into a social trend and media trend. Firstly, the former includes the designation of Bukchon as a reserving area, one of the governmental 'Hanok Survival Program', and traditional building promotion scheme on the basis of construction policy plans. Secondly, the latter covers the interests which attract through the media showing oriental cosmetics, korean culture export via Hallyu, popularity of korean dramas, etc. Thus, it seems worth studying on the apartments with traditional factors. And also, this study aims to setup the concept and trends of korean traditional style apartments through the interior expression on the korean-factor space developed by brand-name apartments so that it could correct such false knowledge out of misunderstood concept of traditional space which results from simple decoration or structure type not accompanying Korean emotion or spirit rendered by some misleading media.

The urban style compact apartment which appeared at the end of 1990's was developed by the decrement of household members and in compliance with a new life style. Now it has its own market as a new trend. The purpose of this study is to better understand the characteristics of urban style compact apartments based on an analysis of apartments actually sold on 2008, in order to reflect on the future directions and developments. To support a comprehensive analysis, this study considered three types of compact apartments developed by : a. major developers which own multiple well-recognized brand names, b. mid-size developers under general brand names, c. new or small-size developers specializing in compact apartments. The results from 21 urban style compact apartments could be summarized as follow; 1. Most buyers are Singles or DINKs. The single women occupy a large percentage. 2. Condition of good location is under 5 minutes walk to station and accessibility to 2 and more station. 3. Exterior of building should be harmonious to surrounding and simple, the atmosphere of entrance hall should be warm and relaxed. 4. The spatial character of unit plans are developed by the ways of connecting spaces; 1) Connecting spaces by mobile partition: flexible spaces with expansion 2) Connecting spaces by hall: well arranged spaces with excursion and extends 5. The equipments of kitchen and security are fully carefully planned.

Housing consumers prefer high-rise mixed-use apartments because of one-stop living style, and high quality of life. This study investigated the residents community with the residents who lived in the apartments and the future residents who will live in the apartments to investigate the usage of the public spaces and the influence of the space to form housing culture of residents family community. All data were taken from the response of two hundred forty three questionnaire to be gathered during 20th of June through 24th of August in 2003. Data were analyzed with percentages, means, t-test, and variance analysis using SPSS/PC+. Residents in four high-rise mixed-use apartments feels that the public space in the apartments were mainly provided by their convenience of the construction companies not for the residents. Physical conditions of public space in high-rise mixed-use apartments should be environmentally friendly housing space in which nature and human can be coexisted. It also should be high-tech system housing with which SOHO can be operated. And different custom-made spaces which the residents' needs can be satisfying should be provided. The public space should be recommended to be multi-purposed room because the space will be differentiated with the circumstances of the area, the residents' age differences, and the variety of the family's life style. Moreover, the various programs should be supplied to run the public space efficiently.

The Purpose of this study is to classify the life styles of urban residents in apartments and to find out possible correlation with their preferences on interior ambience.The selected samples were 3,000 residents from Seoul, Pusan, Kwaungju and Cheonan, and 2,750 of them were analyzed.'The results can be summarized as follows.1.The life style patterns were classified into S types, namely organized type, decoration-oriented type, self expression type, practicality-oriented type and fashion-oriented type. 2. Interior image were classified into 4 types, namely characteristic image, contemporary image, classic image and rich image.3. The interior preference was correlated with the life style patterns, such as organizd type preferred to contemporary image, decoration-oriented type preferred to rich image, self expression type preferred to classic image and practicality-oriented type preferred to characteristic type.4. The patterns of life style and the interior preference differed significantly according to the size of apartment and the age of owner.

The rapid increase in apartments of Korea brought about overall changes in the life style, and definitely played the biggest role to convert into western style. Since 1960, furniture has been changed for 50 years along with apartments, but furniture companies and the academic world had insufficient historical materials and lack of study. In addition, considering the changing trend according to residents' life style, the data of furniture industries should be collected to study every year or in 5 years at least. Therefore, this study aims to provide basic data that gives historical materials or design clues based on recent AV equipment-oriented storage furniture in the living room that prioritized design in public space. Accordingly, the study looked into the periodical trends of Korean furniture industries, analyzed 10 furniture companies in Korea which is actively doing business as the sample and arranged key points of periodical changes of furniture in the table, and suggested the conclusion according to the image map, style, color, material, and function.

When people encounter a new cultural housing setting, their housing attitudes are more changeable and complicated than when they enter a new housing environment in the same culture. The purpose of this study was to identify cultural impacts on housing attitudes, and to find the new design concepts based on the Koreans living experience in American apartments. Data were collected by the questionnaires of 125 Koreans who live in apartment houses in Pittsburgh. According to Korean common housing attitudes and transition by the time variable, the period of residence in the US, this research found that Korean residents' housing attitudes consist of unchanged cultural factors that have been the basic design concepts of Korean style apartments, changeable mixed factors that can be used to diversify Korean apartments, and changed desired factors that will be applied to new design concepts. Also, this research showed different housing attitudes by marital status and rent. This information may be helpful to Korean housing experts who have tried to improve apartments, and it is possible that American professionals can provide more suitable housing to fit minorities' unique living patterns in America.

Though Korea and China have a lot of things in common, these two countries have developed different housing style. However, after modernization, apartments have become major housing style in both Korea and China. So this research analyzed 240 apartment plans which was build in Seoul and Beijing in 2000s and 2010s to predict the future trends for apartments. The results are as follows: The opening direction of the front door will be outwards as the hallway space of small apartments in China become wider as the living standards is increasing. Because of the floor sitting lifestyle, Koreans end outdoor activities when take off their shoes at the entrance hall and continue for indoor activities, they separate entrance hall from livingroom. However, because Chinese have chair sitting lifestyle, entrance hall and livingroom is not divided. Korean apartment shows a trend which connects livingroom, diningroom and kitchen altogether; however, Chinese apartment shows a trend which separates kitchen from livingroom and diningroom. Bedrooms are showing a trend of distributed layout. Master bedroom are showing a trend which includes separate bathroom or attached room as the size of apartment increases and so on.

Through this study, I conducted surveys on apartments with western style furniture to investigate perception on the western style furniture and its use. For the subject of survey, I selected three apartment complexes at Suji-gu, Yongin city which has been recently developed as a new town. Out of total 150 copies of survey sheets 142 fully answered copies were adopted as a final analysis data. Considering supply rate and application, sofa and chair of dining table were chosen to refer as western style furniture. As a result, most of the respondents had inconvenience in using western style furniture. Further study on side effects of adopting western style furniture should be followed.

This study examines and analyzes a variety of apartment roof style for 147 apartment complexes built in the Gwangju metropolitan city in order to determine the style that is most preferred. The results of this study are as follows. Most of apartment houses built in the Gwangju metropolitan city are 11 to 15 stories followed by apartments that have less than 5 stories, with fewer apartments that have 16 to 20 stories. According to roof styles, the eyebrow roof A type is the most common, followed by the plane roof A type, the sloped roof B type and the sloped roof C type, while 2/3 of all roof types have either an eyebrow roof A type or a plane roof A type. Using images of these roof types to determine those that are preferred, the decorative roof C type is most preferred, followed by the sloped roof B and C types. According to recognition of adjective pairs, decorative roof C type showed a higher recognition for the categories of unique, decorative, three dimensional and novel, the sloped roof B type showed a higher recognition for the categories of three dimensional, decorative and structured while the sloped roof C type showed a higher recognition in the decorative, novel, varied and three dimensional categories. In the correlations between image preference and recognition scale of roof styles of apartment houses, decorative roof C type showed a significant correlation between adjective pairs with the calm image, the sloped roof B type with the intimate image, while the sloped roof C type showed a correlation between static and ordered with the easy image. Therefore, for the design of future apartment roofs, decorative roof C type requires more consideration of visual aspects that are related to a sense of unity, while further morphological factors needs to be adopted with sloped roof B and C types.

The purpose of this study is to analyze the quantity, residents` storing manner, and frequency in use of the stored items in bedrooms. and to comprehend the relevant desires of the residents in apartments. The results of the study are summarized as follows; 1. The quantity of the stored Items in bedrooms of apartments were measured after classified into 4 categories; Western style clothes, Korean costumes, underwears, and miscellaneous items. The quantity of the stored items In Rl(the largest bedrooms) was more than twice as many as in R2(the second largest bedrooms)2. The stored items were divided inte 3 categories according to the manner in which they were stored; those generally hung, those generally folded, and those hung or folded half-and-half.3. The frequency in use of the stored items was classified into 2 categories-those used "always" or "often" and those used "seasonal" or "seldom"·and shown diversely according to the kind of items4. It was shown that most residents in apartments were not much satisfied with storage space, i.e.. they generally fell the storage space insufficient. And they tended to want more wardrobes in Rl, and more shelves in R2.
