  • The researchers and planners are using patent/paper map system to analyze the research trend, but we can't use the existing analysis system because of the specialty of korean traditional medicine. Thus we deduced the analysis models from preceding research and system and designed 14 analysis models which are composed of basic, detail and complex models. We verified the analysis models using papers which has 'meridian' keyword among 16,000 papers stored in OASIS. From the analysis result, we know that the meridian study has just entered in the maturity and is closely related with other parts of korean traditional medicine as physiology etc. And we verified the proposed analysis model from the comparison with the analysis models of preceding systems. The analysis model will be used for the development of Korean traditional medicine paper map analysis service scenario and system.

  • Objective: The aim of this study was to investigate the technology trend on developing helmets based on the analysis of Korean, US, European and PCT patents. Background: The usage of the personal protective equipment such as the safety helmet would be essential for preventing injuries and reducing the severity of injuries depending on the type of activity and the exposed environment. Method: Database of WIPSON was used for searching the patents. The objects were the Korean, US, European and PCT patents registered or opened from January 2011 to December 2014. The keyword to investigate was helmet, and International Patent Classification (IPC) was used for investigating the technology trend of the patents. Results: The cases of US patents annually increased, but the cases of European patents decreased. US patents belonged to all sections but Korean and European patents and PCT patents did not. The largest number of IPC, to which four areas' patents belonged, was 'Headwear' and the second largest one was 'Hygiene'. In the subgroup level, the most common largest subgroups were 'Parts, details or accessories of helmets' and 'Masks, shields, or hoods for welders'. Korean patents had the lowest ratio of single_IPC at 11%, but the ratios of single_IPC for US and European patents were 52%, respectively. 'Human necessities', 'Mechanical engineering', 'Physics', and 'Electricity' were used as a single_IPC, but lower levels of 'Performing operations', 'Chemistry', 'Textiles' and 'Fixed constructions' were used as multi_IPC. Most main applicants had patents which belonged to 'Human necessities'. Conclusion: The cases of US patents annually increased unlike others. The common technologies for creating the helmet were Parts of helmets under Headwear and Shields for welders under Hygiene. Many Korean patents tended to be categorized as multi_IPC, different from others. Application: To know the technological characteristic of patents would be helpful to initial stage developers.

  • In this paper, we propose an analysis of recent trends in the NFT (Non-Fungible Token) industry using topic modeling techniques, focusing on their universal application across various industrial fields. For this study, patent data was utilized to understand industry trends. We collected data on 371 domestic and 454 international NFT-related patents registered in the patent information search service KIPRIS from 2017, when the first NFT standard was introduced, to October 2023. In the preprocessing stage, stopwords and lemmas were removed, and only noun words were extracted. For the analysis, the top 50 words by frequency were listed, and their corresponding TF-IDF values were examined to derive key keywords of the industry trends. Next, Using the LDA algorithm, we identified four major latent topics within the patent data, both domestically and internationally. We analyzed these topics and presented our findings on NFT industry trends, underpinned by real-world industry cases. While previous review presented trends from an academic perspective using paper data, this study is significant as it provides practical trend information based on data rooted in field practice. It is expected to be a useful reference for professionals in the NFT industry for understanding market conditions and generating new items.

  • The explosion in creation and utilization of IP including Patent since 1980s has been regarded as typical trend affecting the environment for technological innovation. Korea also has shown massive creation of IP. These stimulate the focused interest on the effectiveness of IP for protecting the innovation output. We try to analyze the determinants of this effectiveness in Korean manufacturing sector in terms of the charactenstics of firm's innovation strategy. It is shown that, for protection for product innovation, as being larger, and as having made innovation, the IP protection is regarded as effective, and firms making cooperative R&D have a higher possibility of using IP protection. And larger firms give a higher recognition to effectiveness of IP protection irrespective of the types of innovation such as product innovation and process innovation.

  • RFID technology as a typical convergence technology combines RFID communication, mobile communication and network infrastructure, and information processing technology. As it enables users to communicate with the surroundings, RFID technology is now recognized to serve as the basis technology for the ubiquitous information society where users can get the needed information anytime and anywhere. Through lots of efforts for the early technology development and standardization activities on RFID technology, Korea has been leading technology standardization as well as technology initiatives. Thus in this paper, we discuss the RFID technology trend by analyzing RFID standard patent data which is declared in international organization for standardization (ISO, IEC, ITU). Especially, we analyzed 906 standard patents data that declared in International organization for standardization (SO, ISO/IEC JTC1, ITU-T) on June 2013.

  • Objectives: The purpose of this study was to analyze the trend of natural product-based products for sleep improvement in Korean patents, to enhance the development and application of natural-products for sleep disorder in terms of Korean medicine. Methods: We collected patent data using the KIPRIS database and ScienceON database. Two authors independently screened patents that potentially met the criteria, and assessed full texts of screened patents for eligibility. Included patents were analyzed, quantitatively as well as qualitatively. Results: A total of 60 patents were selected 2008-July 2022. The number of patents have been on the rise since 2017, and reached 12 in 2018. Companies have registered the most patents, followed by the Industry-University Cooperation Foundation. Zizyphi semen (n=6), Lactuca sativa L. (n=5), Valeriana fauriei/officinalis (n=4), Poria cocos (n=4) were frequently used herbs among 60 patents. Twenty-one patents (35%) included medicinal herbs with sleep improving effects. Among 60 patents, alcohol extraction (70%) was mostly used, followed by water immersion (50%), and hot water extraction (48.3%). Conclusions: Analysis results showed that various Korean medicine herbs, are being used for natural-products for sleep disorder. The results will be helpful towards inventing new patents using Korean medicine, developing natural product extracts for sleep improvement, and extending the range of these products in clinical use.

  • Radiopharmaceuticals are constantly being studied in the field of tumor diagnosis and therapy. As a result, many patents have been registered related to the development of radiopharmaceutical therapy. In this study, effective patents related to radiology and nuclear medicine filed during the past 10 years were collected from various countries like Korea, United States, Japan, Europe etc., and the application trends and growth stages were analyzed through statistical analysis. From the analysis results of 47,991 patents related to radiology and nuclear medicine, only 6,268 registered patents were found valid, and 80% of those were related to radiopharmaceutical development. In addition, we analyzed the patent of major competitors and used them to analyze the trends in radioisotopes and medicinal research. Among these, all the top 10 major applicants have found to be concentrating on radiopharmaceutical development.

  • Recently, patent information related to building information modeling (BIM) has been increasing owing to BIM adoption within the construction sector. However, only a few research studies have focused on identifying trends in the domestic and foreign BIM technology based on comprehensive and objective data. Therefore, this study aims to analyze technical competitiveness in the global BIM market using patent information. The patent information is compiled from WIPSON and consists of 73 South Korea, 59 USA, 206 China, and 31 Japan applications. Based on patent information, this study objectively observes domestic and foreign technological BIM trends. As a result of the technology entry analysis by the year, starting from physics (G section) to electricity (H section), the performing operations (B section), and the fixed structure (E section) has been expanded gradually. According to the portfolio analysis, the BIM patent is currently in its early stage of development. Through this research, utilizing patents as a basis for future development will be expected to consult with the differentiation of strategy and setting of direction.
