, or The Story of Jeonuchi, is a classical Korean novel written at an unknown date by an unknown writer. It has a few different editions presumably because they were printed from a variety of different woodcuts carved in a few dialects. The present study examines The Story of Jeonuchi based on one of its earliest editions collected by the Academy of Korean Studies. Focused on the novel's main ideas of educational value, the author explores effective educational means to teach these ideas to college students. The novel's main ideas with edifying qualities include: alleviating resentment of the people, punishing the greedy, promoting filial piety and loyalty to the sovereign, and antagonism between disloyal forces. And these ideas can be effectively discussed in class using brainstorming, demonstration and logical description. Changing time requires a different approach to understanding and appreciating classical novels. Based on this awareness, the study seeks to find an effective way to teach today's students about literature from a different time. It also stresses that this process involves encouraging the students to logically express their ideas in writing.

This study aimed to propose considerations for attributes and their standardization strategies during the data collection process for electronic publications by domestic distributors for the National Library of Korea. The research identified a total of 21 essential and optional attributes based on a survey and a Focused Group Interview (FGI) with the staff responsible for legal deposit and acquisition tasks at the National Library of Korea. Additional attributes were found necessary during the data quality verification process, leading to the specification of essential and optional attributes for various types of materials, including eBooks, audiobooks, webtoons, and web novels. The standardization of attribute values, essential for enhancing the identifiability and management efficiency of electronic publications, included adherence to ISO 8601 rules for dates and times, clear designation of limited-range attribute values such as file format and adult content, and detailed description of information related to titles. Furthermore, the study highlighted the need for establishing standardized metadata requirements and continuous data quality management and monitoring systems.

Most films have not made by original storytelling. They get their storylines and themes from diverse sources such as novels, comics, performing arts, and previous film products. Comics have become a primary source for film production since 1960s in such nations as Japan and USA. In the contemporary period, this becomes a more visible trend in many countries including Korea, China, and France. Unlike novel, comics combine words with images. Since a comic strip isa graphic medium in which visible images are created in order to express a sequential narrative, it seems more relevant when films adapt original comics in order to recreate new products. The progress of 3D graphics technology enables film creators to realize imagined images in screen, most of which were once imagined only in comics. Keeping an eye on the strength of comics, this study tries to tries to investigate the relationship between a comic strip and its adaptation to film. It will firstly discuss the cases of comics in Korea, which are adapted to film in Korea. And this study will discuss "Le Grand Chef"as a case study in order to investigate what is the difference between original comics and film adaptation.

In this paper, we propose and describe the system to visualize the story of contents such as movies and novels. Character-net is applied as story model in order to visualize story. However, it is the form to be accumulated for total movie story, though it can depict the relationship between characters. We have developed the system that analyzes and shows the variation of Character-net and characters' tendency in order to represent story variation depending on movie progression. This system is composed by two windows that can play and analyze sequential Character-nets by time, and can analyze time variant graph of characters' degree centrality. First window has a function that supports to find important story points like the scenes that main characters appear or meet firstly. Second window supports a function that track each character's tendency or a variation of his tendency through analyzing in-degree graph and out-degree. This paper describes the proposed system and discusses additional requirements.

The influences of sciences on literature have been much researched as relatively familiar themes, and especially the impact of Darwin's evolutionary theory has been interesting research themes on 19th-century history and "Two Cultures". This article outlines the impact of Darwin's evolutionary theory on literatures of the 19th-century British and enlightening-and-colonial-era Korea focusing on some significant features of literary changes, with help of existing researches. It will also give a brief overview of evolutionary psychology as a new perspective of literary criticism. In particular, it will try to show that many transformations of poems and novels appeared diversely depending on different circumstances and various religious or social beliefs societies and individuals were facing and having, and that new understanding of metaphor, narrative, and mind through rediscovery of nature, human and evolution underlay the big changes of literatures.

This article considers Chunhyanjeon written in Japanese by Jang Hyukju in 1938. His Chunhyangjeon was presented from among the collusion and crack of 'things Japanese' and 'things Chosun' discussed in Japanese literary world in the 1930's. This article analyzed the writing method and the meaning of the text. Jang Hyukju(張赫宙, 1905~1997) became known to Japanese literary world by the second grade nomination of the prize contest of the magazine Kaizo in 1932. Since then, he worked actively in the Japanese literary world by writing novels in Japanese and introducing the literature of Chosun. Thanks to his activity, the literature of Chosun drew attraction from the Japanese, which can be called 'boom'. Jang Hyukju was in the middle of this boom. So, his text presented the collusion and crack of empire and colony. We can make sure this issue from his play Chunhyangjeon. When he presented Chunhyangjeon, Jang Hyukju mentioned his purpose of writing. He intended to write modern play in new literary style. Chunhyangjeon was surely the material of things traditional Chosun, which was corresponded to the demand of Japanese literary world. Through the story of Chunhyangjeon, however, he formed the modern text style. He wrote in standard Japanese language, and described things from the perspective style which is often used in modern novel. And he renewed the character characteristically and arranged the structure of the play. His writing style showed clear distinction in the comparison to Chunhyangjeon written by You Chijin which was presented in Korean language 2 years earlier than Jang Hyukuju's. The text Chunhyangjeon written in Japanese by Jang Hyukju reflected specificity as a district of Japan. But on the other hand, a new literary method of modern realism was tried. Chunhyangjeon written by Jang Hyukju shows the cross penetration of empire and colony. And in his Japanese-language literature, the literature of Chosun is coexisting and playing variation.

Recently, a breakthrough has been made in the NLP area by Transformer techniques based on encoder-decoder. However, this only can be used in mainstream languages where millions of dataset are well-equipped, such as English and Chinese, and there is a limitation that it cannot be used in non-mainstream languages where dataset are not established. In addition, there is a deflection problem that focuses on the beginning of the document in mechanical summarization. Therefore, these methods are not suitable for documents with flows such as fairy tales and novels. In this paper, we propose a hybrid summarization method that does not require a dataset and improves the deflection problem using GAN with two adaptive discriminators. We evaluate our model on the CNN/Daily Mail dataset to verify an objective validity. Also, we proved that the model has valid performance in Korean, one of the non-mainstream languages.

In 2021, the 150th anniversary of Proust's birth, and in 2022, the 100th anniversary of his death, the interest in À la recherche du temps perdu increased. We took advantage of a digital humanities approach to make these seven novels known as difficult easily accessible to French literature major korean students. We let the students analyze using the analyzing tools for the big data and find some clues to understand the works through the visualized data. We picked out the main characters and places that appear in his works with Wordcloud, and checked the awareness of Proust in domestic and foreign through the various sites to analyze the big data, such as Big Kinds and Textom. Through the methodology of digital humanities, the students commented that they have gradually enlarged their understanding breadth for Proust's 『In Search of Lost Time』 rather than giving up it as difficult. This study confirmed that applying the big data analysis and digital humanities is an appropriate teaching method in finding ways for the students to broaden the understanding of French literature.

This study aimed to investigate the narrative strategy and meaning of fantasy in classic novels and to derive the educational meaning from the fantasy of Sukhyangjeon. This study selected Sukhyangjeon because is considered a suitable literary text that embodies characteristics of fantasy inherent in classical novels through its successful portrayal of the fantasy genre and its high popularity during its time. Specifically, this study observed that the "notice of hardships" which repeatedly appears in the narration of Sukhyangjeon reinforces the fantasy of the novel as it serves as an advance notice of intervention from heaven. Therefore, this study investigated the relationship between the notice of hardships and fantasy by focusing on Sukhyang's life. The way in which the "notice of hardships" is a form of illusion realized it evident in the plot when heaven saves Sukhyang from her hardship even though it was heaven that had granted her those forms of hardship. Firstly, the "notice from heaven" constitutes the macro structure of Sukhyangjeon. Through it, readers realize the enormous power of heaven by seeing how Sukhyang's life has been realized in accordance with heaven's notice with that, it evokes a sense of respect to heaven. In addition, heaven saves Sukhyang from different forms of danger. It enhances a miraculous feeling, which the omnipotent power of heaven shows, against the innocent appearance of Sukhyang during her times of danger. Meanwhile, when heaven notifies Sukhyang and the surrounding people of their fate and subsequently realizes it through dreams, this act creates a mysterious atmosphere and improves the probability of the narrative. If so, the narrative meaning in reinforcing the fantasy of the novel by the use of "notice of hardships" could be revealed through Sukhyang's real life. First, the hardship in which Sukhyang has gone through is so realistic and detailed that the readers' feelings of empathy are evoked with the fear of the coming hardship, wailing together, and trying to resolve the inner anxiety through Sukhyang's happiness. Second, the heavenly beings who are touched by the good behaviors of Sukhyang save her from the dangers of death. This creates the belief in readers that heaven intervenes for the good people. Third, the active attitude that Sukhyang and Leesun show in the process of marriage helps them overcome their earthly hardship and preserve their relationship in heaven. This gives readers hope that they could go to a "higher life" after going through suffering. This fantasy of Sukhyangjeon helps readers overcome their anxieties of reality through fantasy and recognizes the importance of relationships to enhance a sense of unity and solidarity with others. Because of these elements, it is expected that the fantasy of Sukhyangjeon will have a meaningful value to modern readers.
