  • The chronic non-bacterial prostatis disease is relatively incurable, chronic and recurrent. Due to its prostatis barrier, chronic non-bacterial prostatis disease is difficult to be penetrated with Medicine. Nevertheless, we obtained the desired results using the method of iki action by Bojungiki-tang. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the effect of treatment and change of WBC numerical index using Bojungiki-tang. We investigated one chronic non-bacterial prostatis disease for about one year with NIH chronic prostatis symptom index, expressed prostatic secretion(EPS). After the treatment, symptom index score was decreased from 27 to 1. Also WBC numerical index by EPS test was decreased to zero. These results indicate that oriental medical therapy is effective in treating chronic non-bacterial prostatis disease. Therefore further study of the effect of herb-medicine is necessary.

  • Historically, the common folk have made use of various wild herbs for both food and medicinal purposes. However, the misuse of these wild herbs can lead to adverse consequences, including severe poisoning in some cases. In cases of poisoning from wild herbs, patients can exhibit a variety of symptoms depending on the herbs involved, which in addition to gastrointestinal symptoms may include hemodynamic alteration and abnormal neurologic signs. In the present case, two patients were admitted to the emergency room with symptoms of toxicity after consuming Rhododendron brachycarpum liquor. Rhododendron brachycarpum and other wild herbs contain the toxic material grayanotoxin. Because of its serious toxic symptoms, great caution must be exercised in using rhododendrons for food and medicinal purposes.

  • Objectives: The purpose of this study was to review the recent clinical studies on Korean medicine for treatment of eating disorders. Methods: We searched clinical studies that verified the effectiveness of Korean medicine for the treatment of eating disorders. The search was done in 9 databases (Korean, Chinese, and English databases) from January 2016 to August 2023. Results: A total of 10 articles were retrieved. The articles were classified based on the type of study design: 1 database study, 2 case series, and 7 case reports. Among the articles, in 4 articles, acupuncture was used as a treatment intervention for bulimia nervosa, and in 6 articles herbal medicine was used as a treatment intervention for anorexia nervosa. The most frequent pattern identification was 'Liver qi depression', the most composed herb was 'Root of Glycyrrhiza uralensis (甘草)', and the most used acupoints were CV12 and SP6. All the studies showed positive results. Conclusions: Korean medicine for eating disorders treatments might be effective. However, the quality of evidence in the selected studies was low, and there was no comparison of the treatment effects using objective diagnostic tools. For more accurate results, systematically designed clinical studies using objective diagnostic tools should be conducted.

Uterine myoma is the most common pelvic tumor and they are diagnosed in up to15 to 20% of women in pubertal period. Although myoma is generally considered to be a slowly growing tumor, in 20-40% of women at the age of 35 and more have uterine myoma of significant sizes with severe clinical symptoms. The most common symptoms include abdominal pain or discomfort, low abdominal pressure sensation, hypermenorrhea and urinary symptoms. The treatment of uterine myoma is just observation, operation and hormone replacement therapy. We treated 6 outpatients who has uterine myoma and visited Kyungwon InCheon Oriental Hospital with Herb-medication and acupuncture. So we have gotten good result from them. After 6 outpatients had taken Guichulpazing-tang(歸朮破?湯), the symptoms were improved and the size of the uterine myoma was reduced significantly, It proves that oriental medical treatment is effective on the patients with uterine myoma, but continuous studies are needed.

  • Diabetic kidney disease is one of the most serious complications of diabetes. Although diabetic kidney disease can be effectively controlled through strict blood glucose management and corresponding symptomatic treatment, these therapies cannot reduce its incidence in diabetic patients. The sodium-glucose cotransporter 2 (SGLT2) inhibitors and the traditional Chinese herb "Gegen" have been widely used in diabetes-related therapy. However, it remains unclear whether the combined use of these two kinds of medicines contributes to an increased curative effect on diabetic kidney disease. In this study, we examined this issue by evaluating the efficacy of the combination of puerarin, an active ingredient of Gegen, and canagliflozin, an SGLT2 inhibitor for a 12-week intervention using a mouse model of diabetes. The results indicated that the combination of puerarin and canagliflozin was superior to canagliflozin alone in improving the metabolic and renal function parameters of diabetic mice. Our findings suggested that the renoprotective effect of combined puerarin and canagliflozin in diabetic mice was achieved by reducing renal lipid accumulation. This study provides a new strategy for the clinical prevention and treatment of diabetic kidney disease. The puerarin and SGLT2 inhibitor combination therapy at the initial stage of diabetes may effectively delay the occurrence of diabetic kidney injury, and significantly alleviate the burden of renal lipotoxicity.

  • Objectives : The aim of this study was to examine if there is a significant correlation between the changes of Fire- and Heat- related symptoms and motor function recovery in acute cerebral infarction patients. Methods : We studied inpatients within a month after the onset of cerebral infarction who were admitted at Kyunghee University Medical Center from May 2011 to January 2013. We executed correlation analysis between Fire-heat pattern score and motricity index score at visit 1 and visit 2, and checked if there was a significant correlation between the changes of Fire-heat pattern score and changes of motricity index score. Also, we compared the changes of both scores in patients taking Fire-heat and non Fire-heat pattern prescriptions. Results : There was a significant correlation between the Fire-heat pattern score and Motricity index score at visit 1 and visit 2, and changes of Fire-heat pattern score showed significant correlation with changes of motricity index score. Patients taking Fire-heat pattern prescriptions showed significant change in Fire-heat pattern score after herb-medication treatment while patients taking non-Fire-heat prescriptions showed insignificant change in Fire-heat pattern score. Conclusions : This study provides evidence that taking a Fire-heat pattern prescription could be considered as a first line herb-medication treatment in acute cerebral infarction patients.
