  • The purpose of this study is to isolate characteristics of exhibits particularly considering educational perspectives and effectiveness in attracting the attention of visitors in famous Natural History Museums. The target exhibits were selected from the Natural History museum in London, the Australian Museum in Sydney, the American Museum of Natural History in New York, and the Smithsonian Museum in Washington D.C. A total of 107 sample exhibits used in this study from these four museums were selected as representative solid earth science education related exhibitions including fossils, geological history, and minerals. For the investigation, this study developed a checklist with seven items based on reviewing previous literature and articles pertaining to exhibit characteristics of natural history museums and science centers. Also the educational perspectives focused on classifications of exhibitions by Hein (1997). In this study, all the sample exhibit, were taken pictures of and stored on slide films for lated examination. Respectively exciting and positive results were found in all four museums. The analyses, however, indicated weaknesses as well as strengths in the four museum exhibits.

  • The study was conducted based on the 'method of mathematical exploration through history'. In recent school education, 'Probability and Statistics' education has been emphasized, and as a result, the study has conducted a study on permutations. Permutation is used in a variety of fields, and in this study, we looked at the Derangement. The results of this study are as follows. First, analysis was made at current school mathematics level and academic mathematics level for Derangement. Second, the historical development process of derangement was examined. Third, based on this, the research direction of this study was decided to be 'Derangement number's triangle(Rencontres number's triangle)', and the inquiry for education expansion was carried out. Fourth, we have presented data on concrete educational expansion by discovering various mathematical facts of the Derangement number's triangle. We hope that the results of this study will provide meaningful implications for the application of mathematics and the presentation of new inquiry directions.

  • The main purpose of this research is to consider educational environment, concept, and spatial organization and its characteristic based on the early 20th century European child-centered educational philosophy. For this process, the study of the following have been done : 1) Literature review, which includes educational ideology, perspective of child development of Maria Montessori, Rudolf Steiner, Peter Peterson, and Celestin Freinet. 2) Comparisons of spatial organization and classrooms of schools operated with the educational philosophy of mentioned philosophers from above. These schools have classrooms(or multi-purpose space near classroom) contained self-directed individual learning space, group and collaborative learning space, and training space of practical life. These configuration of learning space intended 1) learning based on individual child's interest, experience 2) developing of responsibility based on freedom 3) sociality and community spirit of children.

  • Choi Yoon Sik is a person who can not be omitted when discussing the history of mathematics in Korea. He is a mathematician who led Korean mathematics community after liberation from Japan. However, he took interests in mathematics education in middle and high school also. Choi Yoon Sik should be remembered as a leading person not only in the history of mathematics but also in the history of mathematics education in Korea. Choi Yoon Sik thought that histo-genetic principle, intuitive principle, and practical principle are important in mathematics education by help of Okura Kinnosuke's view, with hope to reform the mathematics education in Korea. He also argued that mathematics has educational values.

  • This article explores the potential learning materials and methods of science practice from exhibits, and how those are presented in natural history museums as a feasible science inquiry community. The idea of science inquiry community was offered as a form of science practice that ended with science learning. A grasp of 'scientific practice to learning' is understood as a way to conceive scientific methods as well as facts and understanding knowledge. To get educational implications on the scientific practice of 'earthquake' as a socioscientific topic in the communities, we analyzed 1) the relationship between earth science curriculum and exhibits related to 'earthquake', 2) the educational goals and intentions of educators, and 3) the characteristics of the exhibits in the American Museum of Natural History and in the Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History. The results of this study showed that those museums presented the exhibits consisting of various and practical cases and events of 'earthquakes' as a socioscientific topic related to their curriculum. At the target museum, it was clearly stated that the pursuing educational goals focused on relations with local interests and socioscientific issues. For making earthquakes relevant to visitors, delivering lived experiences with raw data and interactive media was emphasized in exhibit characteristics.

  • The purpose of this study is to explore the life history of a highly experienced elementary school teacher, Mr. Park and to understand how his science teaching practices have changed throughout his educational career. Using life history interviews with Mr. Park and his life history materials as data sources, a life story of the participant teacher was constructed. The ways teaching changed in the inter-relationship between external and personal factors were then analyzed according to three temporal periods of teaching changes. It was revealed that in the first period of teaching change, Mr. Park changed his science teaching practices by actively accepting influences from external factors, which in turn enabled him to start developing his expertise in student-centered science instruction. By contrast, in the second period of teaching change, Mr. Park strengthened his own ways of teaching while responding critically to the trends of educational change by external factors. In the third and final period of teaching change, Mr. Park made changes in teaching practices by taking advantage of his personal factors to convert influences of external factors into positive ones. Based on these findings, it was suggested that educational policies for teaching changes should be provided in consideration of teachers' life cycles and their expertise and that teachers should make efforts to reflect on the factors for educational change and transform them into positive ones.

  • Six members of Korean association of sensory integration(KASI) participated the treatment course named C-course of japanese association for the study of sensory integrative dysfunction(JASSID) during Jul. 27$\sim$Aug. 3, 2005. After the course, we investigated the education program of Japan and Korea and how it had been changed and developed. Through investigating JASSID with history for 23 years and KASI with history for 8 years, we find out that the common contents of sensory integration exist and the diversities of their own cultural and social contexts also exist. In korea, KASI would develop our own educational program and research based on having the close relationship with Japan and other former country developed education of sensory integration.

  • Recently large scale earthquake s are occurred around the world following the damage of buildings. So the interest of preparing for earthquake seismic design and seismic performance has becoming high. School buildings are though used for educational purpose; they are also used as emergency shelter for local residents during earthquake disaster. However, the current seismic design ratio of our country (Korea) is 3.7% and if massive earthquake is occurred it follows a serious damage. In order to overcome this situation, seismic performance evaluation is carried out for existing school building and an accurate and appropriate seismic retrofit is required based on performance evaluation to upgrade the existing school buildings. In this paper, nonlinear static analysis on existing school buildings for ATC-40 and FEMA-356 are carried out using the capacity spectrum method to evaluate seismic performance and to determine the need for retrofitting. In addition, after reinforcement to verify the effect of retrofit enhance the seismic performance is applied the seismic performance evaluation is carried out to verify the effect of seismic retrofit time history analysis using nonlinear dynamic analysis is also performed and nonlinear behavior of earthquake load of seismic retrofit of structures was also investigated.

  • Natural numbers have not yet been studied adequately on the aspect of its historical development in spite of its mathematical and educational importance. This article studied the historical development of natural number concept, that is, its historical meaning in the mathematical development process and influence of cultural and social element in relation with way of understanding number. From these examinations, we identified some characteristics in the history of natural number concept.
