이 연구는 KDC 제6판 심령연구 및 비학, 초심리학 분야의 용어와 주기사항의 보완에 대한 개선방안을 제시하기 위한 목적을 지닌다. 이와 같은 목적을 달성하기 위하여 KDC와 DDC 등 주요 분류의 심령연구 및 비학, 초심리학 분야 분류체계를 상호 비교하였으며, 심령연구 및 비학, 초심리학 분야의 KDC 변천과정과 분류된 자료를 분석하였다. 이를 토대로 심령연구 및 비학, 초심리학 분야의 분류특성과 문제점을 분석하였다. 분석 결과, 주기의 미흡, 용어의 부적절함 등으로 인한 문제점으로 분류의 혼동이 있었음을 알 수 있었으며 이러한 문제를 해결하기 위해서 이 연구에서는 187의 각 하위 항목에 주기의 추가, 187.2, 187.3, 187.4, 187.5에 있어서 용어 변경 등의 해결방안을 제시하였다.

이 연구는, KDC 5판에서 문제점들이 다수 발견되어 시스템으로서의 문헌분류법에 부합하는 표준적인 조건을 제시한 다음, KDC 5판을 대상으로 각종 표준적인 조건에의 부합 여부를 자세하게 진단하여 발견된 구체적인 문제점들에 대한 합당한 처방을 마련 제시함으로써 향 후 KDC 발전에 일조하기 위한 것이다. 고찰대상으로는 기본적인 장치임에도 불구하고 제외된 것들(내부보조표, 우선순위표, 해설, 신 구대비표 등)을 비롯하여 본표, 조기표(공통보조표), 주기, 색인, 양자택일 등을 분석대상으로 삼았으며, 나아가 오류, 표기부적절, 누락, 표현일관성결여 및 삭제해야 할 부분 등도 바로 잡고자 한다.

이 연구는 특정 주제 분야를 사회학적 관련 이론 및 기법을 적용하여 고찰하고 있는 문헌의 분류를 효율적으로 수행하기 위해 국내에서 가장 많이 사용되고 있는 한국십진분류법(KDC)과 듀이십진분류법(DDC)의 특수사회학 분류항목들을 비교분석 하였다 특히 특수사회학 관련 분류항목들을 종교, 예·체능, 과학, 언어, 사회, 지역 등 6개 분야로 구분하여 분석한 결과 분류항목 설정이 상이함으로 인한 문제점과 분류항목이 설정되지 않음으로 인한 문제점이 나타났다. 이를 토대로 이 연구에서는 특정주제의 이론 및 기법 적용에 일관성을 기하도록 하고 분류번호 부여를 위한 추가의 항목 전개 등 분류 실무자의 판단을 도와주는 한편 나아가 KDC의 제5판 개정에 일조하는 데 그 의의를 두었다.

이 연구는 KDC 제5판의 개정 내용을 제안하는 것이다. 개정되는 제5판은 조합식 구조를 전제로 다양한 합성방법을 사용하는 것이 필요하다. 또한 부가표의 신설, 주기의 다양화, 보조표의 전개를 확대하고, 기호 합성방법은 "기본기호 $\sim$에 $\sim$표의 기호 $\sim$을 합성한다." 형식의 주기를 일관성 있게 사용하고 실질적인 보조표의 역할을 할 수 있도록 개정할 것을 제안한다.

KDC 제5판의 역사보조학 중 고고학, 고문서학, 기록학, 계보학, 전기(傳記) 분야는 분류체계상의 문제점이 발견되어 개선할 필요가 있다. 이에 이 연구에서는 첫째, LCC, DDC, KDC, NDC, UDC, CLC를 대상으로 역사보조학 분야를 비교 분석하여 KDC의 개선을 위한 착안점을 파악하고, 둘째, 도서관현장에서의 KDC를 사용한 분류실태를 조사하여 적용상의 문제점을 도출하며, 셋째, 파악된 착안점을 참작하여 KDC의 개선방안을 제시하였다.

이 연구는 KDC, DDC, NDC와 한국연구재단의 학술연구분야분류표와 국가과학기술표준분류표와의 비교를 바탕으로 KDC 제5판에서 540과 610에 양분되어 있는 건축공학과 건축술을 통합하는 개선안을 제시하였다. 이 연구에서는 문헌분류 연구자와 건축학 연구자의 공동연구를 통해, 610에 있던 건축술을 540에 통합하고, 540의 표목을 '건축공학'에서 '건축학'으로 변경하도록 제안하고 있다. 추가로 540.1 건축계획 및 관련세목, 543.1 구조역학, 546.1 건축환경 및 관련세목의 신설을 제안하고 있다.

이 연구는 토목공학 분야의 KDC, NDC, DDC 분류체계와 한국학술진흥재단의 연구분야분류표, 한국과학재단의 과학기술연구분야분류의 분류체계를 비교 분석한 후, 이를 토대로 KDC 토목공학 분야의 분류체계를 개선할 수 있는 방안을 제시하고자 시도하였다. 분석결과 KDC 제5판의 토목공학 분야는 학문발전의 추세를 반영하는 분류 항목의 추가, 토목공학 기초이론에 관한 등위류 분류용어의 적절한 전개, 세부 주제의 추가 전개, 분류기호, 한글 및 영문표기의 오류, 분류항목의 상관색인 누락 등에 대한 개선이 필요한 것으로 나타났다. 이 연구에서는 이러한 문제들을 해결하기 위한 개선 방안을 제시하였다.

Dewey Decimal Classification (DDC) was first published in 1876. Since its first edition it has been revised, on an average, 6 years, and now it has become the widely used library classification system of which the scheme was translated in various languages. The purpose of this study is to find out the chief causes for the development of the DDC. The results of the study can be summarized as follows: 1. It allows materials to be shelved in a relative location as the collection expands. before the DDC was introduced, libraries used a fixed location for materials in which each item was assigned to a certain location set aside for a subject. 2. It is a practical system. The fact that it has survived many storms in the past hundred years and is still the most widely used classification scheme in the world today attests to its practical value. 3. The pure notation of arabic numerals is universally recognizable. People from any cultural or language background can adapt to the system easily. 4. The use of the decimal system enable infinite expansion and sub-division. And it has adaptability for use in libraries of various size and kinds because of its hierarchically expressive notation which permits varying degrees of inclusiveness and exclusiveness within its decimal structure. 5. The notation is simple and easily understood. The self-evident numerical sequence facilitates filing and shelving. And the mnemonic nature of the notation helps the readers to memorize and recognize the class numbers. 6. The relative index brings together different aspects of the same subject scattered in different disciplines. 7. We can avail of DDC numbers for specific titles easily because of its use by many central bibliographic services. 8. It is being continuously revised by a permanent office established in the library of congress in 1933. This office has been responsible for editing all editions of the DDC since the 16th (1958). And the periodic revision at regular intervals ensures the currentness of the scheme. 9. It has adaptability both for conventional (manual) shelf or classed catalogue analysis and also, through its meaningful nation, for retrieval through mechanization and computerized systems.

이 연구는 복합주제를 합성할 수 없는 문헌에 합리적이고 일관성 있는 분류기호를 부여하기 위해 분류표에 설정되는 우선순위(reference order)를 한국십진분류법에 도입하기 위한 방안을 고찰하였다. 실제 분류항목 대상으로는 조기 표에서 \circled1 표준구분, \circled2 문학형식구분 두 곳, 본표에서는 총류의 014-019 서목, 목록, 철학류의 \circled1 180 심리학, \circled2 182 차이심리학과 183 발달심리학, 종교류의 230 기독교, 사회 과학류의 \circled1 320 경제학, \circled2 325.9 회계학, \circled3 326.1 상업, \circled4 326.2 무역, \circled5 364.4 범죄학, \circled6 336 노동 문제, \circled7 338 사회복지, \circled8 339 사회단체, \circled9 370 교육학, \circled10 379 특수교육, 순수과학류의 \circled1 475 미생물학, \circled2 481 일반식물학, \circled2 491 일반동물학, 기술과학류의 \circled1 512.8 간호학, \circled2 539.7 도시계획, \circled3 594.5 요리와 594.6 건강을 위한 계층별 요리, \circled4 598.1 육아 일반, 예술류의 650 회화 등 22개를 포함해 모두 24개의 우선순위표(안)을 작성하였다.

The purpose of this study is to investigate the problems concerning 780 music division of DDC. The object is especially arrangement of 780 music in the 20th edition of DDC which is the complete revision. The result is summarized as follows : 1. Although music is an important subject in humanities, especially in arts, it was classified as one division (780) not class. 2. The arrangement of 780 music is severely west-oriented music theory, vocal music and instrumental music. 3. Classification number of 780 music becomes longer because of the limitation of decimal notation. 4. 780 music division of DDC neglects music theory and emphasizes music practicing, especially performance. 5. The assignment of classification number is unbalanced, especially between theory and practice, composition and performance, and among sub-sections of vocal and instrumental music. 6. Many important subject are omitted in DDC music schedule, for example, musicology and branches of musicology, composition and traditional instruments of many countries. 7. Employment of terminology is often improper and inconsistant.
