  • This Study in order to review the history of our children's costumes, this study examined the socio-cultural background of Chosun dynasty and then, reviewed children's costumes comprehensively during that period according to their considerations, kinds, colors and patterns. In addition, this study explored the possibility of making use of the characteristics of children's costumes during Chosun dynasty, since it was perceived that if our children should be dressed in a traditional costume designed with some traditional costume characteristics and ornaments, our tradition would be enlivened in their life and spirit. It is results can be summed up as follows; Our traditional costumes consisted basically of Yu(襦), Go(袴). Sang(裳) and Po(袍) and additionally of Headgear(冠帽), Dae(帶), Hwa(靴) or Yi and Beosun, which must prove that the Korean people is cultural people. Our ancestors were dressed first in Yu(襦), Go(袴). Sang(裳) and Po(袍) to be supported by dae(帶). Our traditional costume style was 'front adjustment' or otherwise, left or right adjustment. Commoners' costumes would change after the series of foreign invasions and again during mid-late Chosun dynasty. During the period of King Sukjong, Jeogori was far shorter and smaller, while China was more diversified and voluminous enough to look like a jar.

The yongbo is larger one than the late period of the Yi dynasty in the light of portrait of the first king of the Yi dynasty. The supporting type of gonryongpo is that of gonryongpo, dapho, and chulrik, king's dress granted by Myeong dynasty. In the late period jikryeong was used as supporting dress and fixed to be lining and included jikryeong. The exchange was the form of presenting a return present in return for a tribute to the Chosun dynasty from the Japanese envoy, which has a polycentric characteristic. Pusanpo, Naipo, and Yumpo were designated as the open ports, which played a pivotal role in the Korea-Japan exchange. The imported goods were somok, peppers, drug-stuffs, gold, bronze, sulfur, etc. The exported goods were books and cloths, such as hemp cloths, cotton cloths, silk, etc. The majority of exported goods was cloths, particularly cotton cloths. Meanwhile, in the 15th and the 16th century, with expanding of active trade towards Japan, the amount of export increased rapidly. As a result of the increase of exporting cotton cloths, the raw cottons production was increased and cotton cloth manufacturing was developed. • This study investigated data on beef dietary consumption during the Joseon Dynasty Period, including "the Annals of the Joseon Dynasty", "the Diaries of the Royal Secretariat", and "Ilsongnok". Beef stands for superstitions as well as respect, broad-mindedness, exquisite culinary taste, and is a symbol of taste. In the historic record, we found two extremely opposite trends; specifically, Ugeum (牛禁, forbidding beef consumption and indulgence in beef). On the one hand, believing that they were the rudimentary foundation to Korea's agriculture, Joseon authorities tried to protect cows and bulls as valuable agricultural assets. Meanwhile, there were several officially sanctioned beef consumption events in the Joseon period. These included Jesu (祭需, food for ancestral rites), Daejup (待接, servings), Hasa (下賜, bestowment), and Hogue (犒饋, comforting soldiers with culinary methods). These included offerings to the departed spirits, servings, bestowment, and comforting soldiers with culinary methods. Especially in Joseon's Yeonhang (燕行) Journals, we can see different beef distributions and preferences between Japan and China. Furthermore, The Annals of the Joseon Dynasty even addressed the general issue of beef treatment; special methods for beef processing, beef distribution, tool materials, and prices of beef.

  • This study examined the perception of the royal family and scholars, focusing on the records of the royal family and literary collections in the late Joseon Dynasty, and attempted to present the process of accepting this content in Korea through domestic and foreign medical documents and other literature. The perception of this content in the late Joseon Dynasty can be said to be a characteristic to the history of acupuncture and moxibustion in the Joseon period. This seems to have occurred after the middle of the Joseon Dynasty, when both acupuncture and medicine were commonly performed on the king. This content was generally recognized by Joseon's scholars because it had been in books read by the scholars before it was mentioned directly in the medical book. Korean medical books were influenced by Uihakyimmun, and this content continued steadily in various medical books. Since the books containing this content were test subjects for the medical exam, it can be assumed that they were generally accepted by doctors in the late Joseon Dynasty.

  • Korea has a long history in astronomy, which is proved by many observational records written in Korean chronicles. There are 43 sunspot records in Goryeo dynasty (高麗 918-1392) and 13 records in Joseon dynasty (朝鮮 1392-1910). According to analysis of Korean historical records, it is known that sunspot records in Goryeo dynasty show well in match with the well-known solar activity of 11.3 years. It means that Korean historical sunspot records show real solar phenomena. Korean sunspot records also show that solar activity decrease in Joseon dynasty compared with the previous ~500 years. In order to know the change of solar activity in detail, we examine Korean historical atmospheric records which can indicate climate change. We first analyze historical frost records. Korean chronicles have around 600 frost records during the last millennium. We find that the climate change shows sign of cooling down when check the variation of epoch that the first and last frost events in each year are written. This result is well in accord with that of historical sunspot records. Therefore, we claim that solar activity decrease during the last thousand years.
