  • While the way broadcasting contents are made has changed drastically, some conflicts appear to remain unchanged. And they are about allegedly unfair practices. The whole arguments may even be deemed natural to a certain degree, considering the characteristics of the overall creative industry. But it needs to be highlighted the conflicts are being aggravated both in drama and non-drama production industries for different reasons. The drama side of the issue comes from how the project-based organizations are organized, and will be resolved if broadcasting companies do not send over their directors. On the other hand, the non-drama side's issues are about the complaints that outsourcing production companies have about the production cost. In general, due largely to the genre's relatively weak power to generate revenue, the producers do not get the upper hand when it comes to the negotiations over financial matters.

  • Consumer expectations for drama VFX increased as the influx of overseas dramas increased due to the growth of OTT service, but the current production time of the drama production system has a negative effect on the quality and completion of work. This paper proposes a background rendering using a game engine and a subject rendering using background HDRI as environmental lighting. The proposed workflow is expected to reduce the production time of VFX and improve the quality of VFX. The proposed workflow was verified in 3 steps. Comparing game engine and rendering software according to the same lighting environment and camera distance, comparing rendering with existing rendering method and background HDRI generation, and validating the proposed workflow. For verification, quantitative evaluation was performed using Structual similarity index and histogram. This study is expected to be one of the options to improve the quality of VFX and improve the risk.

  • TV drama , aired on JTBC in 2018, used several fictional and linguistic clues on the murder case. It effectively delayed the process of inferring the perpetrator by utilizing 'ambiguity' and 'trap', which enabled the double interpretation of the the main character's diaglogue and action. This delay could be made by employment of genre hybrid, cognitive process and knowledge of viewers about typical romance plot and mystery plot in TV drama. In other words, could be evaluated as a special genre hybrid case that disturbs viewers' perception of genre in that the correct reasoning process began from the point that overturned the viewer's expectation about typical romance genre dramas in which male main characters mostly devoted to love. The complicating mystery structure shown in is against the opinion that the traditional mystery structure is difficult to succeed in TV dramas. Also, from the perspective of hybrid genre, it is different from the usual mechanical combination of two different plots. These characteristics in are worth to highly evaluated.

  • A number of studies on the educational influence of drama and theatre have increased since the 1990s in South Korea. These days, more Korean researchers seem to have recognised the educational influence of drama and theatre than before. At this time, it is meaningful to look into how the domestic trend of studies has changed and developed over the past thirty years. This paper especially adopted a bibliometric method to analyse the trend by time of studies from the late 1990s to 2017. In addition, target age, research topic and research approach of each study were investigated. Some of terminologies particularly used in South Korea were also defined to help young researchers' understanding in this paper. In detail, the total number of studies for the last thirty years is 225 and the first domestic study on the educational power of drama and theatre was published in 1994. In the 2000s, there was quantitative expansion in terms of the number of studies and topics. Eventually pragmatic and integrated features of the studies were found in the 2010s. It is anticipated that the pragmatic and integrated features of the studies will be stimulated to fit into the need of the time. Until now, the most fevered research target age was mainly primary school students. However, it would be possible to widen a target age range in the future. It should be considered having collaboration among researchers who have different expertises for conducting higher quality studies.

  • This research aims to investigate 'Hallyu' contents consumption tendency of consumers from Korea, Japan, and the United States by analyzing their emotional responses. With the development of social media, research on emotion analysis by reviewing text materials has grown. Whereas environmental variables affect consumer demand towards 'Hallyu' contents, little comparative analyses have been conducted on the emotional responses of consumers from different countries. In this research, the emotional prototype model proposed by Russell(1980) used to extract and distinguish emotional words to clarify how people in the three countries differently perceive the Korean drama "Goblin". First of all, the SNS reviews were collected during a two-month period (February 12 to April 12). Second, significant factors were identified in the collected data according to Russell's emotion model. Third, random forest was applied to organize the selected variables in the order of variable importance. Fourth, the correlations among the emotional words were compared. Lastly, the accuracy of the trained model was measured using the test dataset. The results show that "Happy" was found to be the greatest factor in Korea and in the United States and "Pleased" in Japan. Emotional words correlations showed that when watching the drama "Goblin", "passive unpleasure" was the main factor associated with individual's interest in Korea whereas "passive pleasure" was associated with individual's interest in Japan and in the United States. Based on the results, this research suggests the possibility of developing evaluation guidelines for emotional responses of different countries towards 'Hallyu' contents.
