Design and Implementation of Healthcare System for Chronic Disease Management

  • Chronic diseases management can be effectively achieved through early detection, continuous treatment, observation, and self-management, rather than a radar approach where patients are treated only when they visit a medical facility. However, previous studies have not been able to provide integrated chronic disease management services by considering generalized services such as hypertension and diabetes management, and difficult to expand and link to other services using only specific sensors or services. This paper proposes clinical rule flow model based on medical data analysis to provide personalized care for chronic disease management. Also, we implemented that as Rule-based Smart Healthcare System (RSHS). The proposed system executes chronic diseases management rules, manages events and delivers individualized knowledge information by user's request. The proposed system can be expanded into a variety of applications such as diet and exercise service in the future.

The Effect of Market Orientation of Knowledge-Based Service Suppliers on the Sourcing Process of Service Recipients (지식기반서비스 공급자의 시장지향성이 수혜자의 소싱과정에 미치는 영향)

  • This study investigates the effect of market orientation of knowledge-based service suppliers on the sourcing process of service recipients. Focusing on a dyadic relationship between a supplier and a buyer, this study proposed a conceptual model of market orientation incorporating the antecedents and consequences of market orientation. This study empirically tested research hypotheses delineated from the conceptual framework. The present study revealed that the impact on the buyer's performance of the supplier's customer and competitor orientation turned out to be more influential than that of inter-departmental cooperation. Also these two dimensions of customer and competitor orientation played a positive role in reducing buyer's perceived risk and uncertainty related to the evaluation of services out-sourced. Interestingly enough, the supplier's perceived importance on the distance between the buyer and supplier remains important especially when the degree of buyer's market orientation is high. This finding is somewhat contrary to the fact that the geographic location of the buyer becomes less important for the internet-based B2B service providers. Based on the findings, this study suggested managerial implications and broadened the scope of academic research in the field of business services. Future research directions and the limitations of this study are also discussed.

Meta Knowledge for Effective Model Management in Web-based System (웹 기반 시스템에서 효과적 모델관리를 위한 메타지식)

  • Diverse requirements of users on web-based model management force a system agent to develop user-adaptive building a model in reality and providing an adequate solution method of the model. The relationship between models is important knowledge for the agent to effectively build a new model to adaptively adjust an existing model under a problem and to efficiently connect the new model into an adequate solution method. Since the generating process of the inter-model relationship is more difficult than the building a new model however the process mostly depends on the knowledge of operation research experts. Without the adequate scheme of the inter-model relationship the burden of the management for the agent increases rapidly and the quality of the services may worsen. This study shows that meta-knowledge generated from relationship between models is important for the user to build a model in reality and to acquire the solver appropriate to the model. The relationship that consists of common and exclusive objects between models can be represented by frames. The system under development to implement the idea includes user-adaptive ability which identifies a model through forward chaining method and searches the solver appropriate to the model by using the meta knowledge. We illustrate the meta knowledge with an applied delivery system in supply chain management.

  • In this paper, we propose the SINDI-Grid which is a high-performance framework for scientific and technological knowledge discovery using the grid computing. By using the advantages of the grid computing providing data repository of large-volume and high-speed computing power, the SINDI-Grid framework provides a variety of grid services for distributed data analysis and scientific knowledge processing. And the SINDI-Workflow tool exploits these services so that performs the design and execution for scientific and technological knowledge discovery applications which integrate various information processing algorithms.

Current prehospital care status, knowledge, and prehospital care confidence toward the elderly among 119 emergency medical technicians (119 구급대원의 노인응급처치 현황 및 노인에 대한 지식, 응급처치 수행자신감)

  • Purpose: This study aimed to improve the quality of prehospital emergency care for elderly patients by determining current prehospital care status based on run sheets and level of knowledge, and prehospital care confidence toward the elderly through questionnaires answered by 119 emergency medical technicians (EMTs). Methods: This study was conducted with 4,946 elderly patients who were transferred to the hospital by 119 ambulances in D city from March 1, 2013 to February 28, 2014. This study was a descriptive study of 119 run sheets. The questionnaire was completed by 160 EMTs working in D city. All data were analyzed by using SPSS 21.0. Results: 74.2% was due to disease among the 4,946 elderly patients who were transferred by 119 ambulances, and a rest was due to injury. The mean knowledge score of the 119 EMTs regarding elderly patients was low. Their confidence on prehospital care of the elderly patients statistically significantly differed according to career at hospital and education. Conclusion: Theoretical knowledge, education on prehospital care of the elderly, and repeated technical prehospital care education and training accompanied by feedback assessment by 119 EMTs are needed.

Outcomes of active learning methods in an electrocardiography course; identifying the effects of flipped, case-based, and team-based learning (액티브 러닝 학습방법을 활용한 심전도 개론 및 실습 교과과정의 학습효과와 만족도 조사)

  • Purpose: This study aimed to introduce active learning methods, including flipped, case-based, and team-based learning in an electrocardiography (ECG) course and to investigate outcomes and satisfaction with these methods. Methods: To identify the learning effect of active learning, pre-and post-academic self-efficacy was compared between the experimental and control groups. In the experimental group, pre-and post-knowledge and clinical performance regarding ECG were also assessed. In addition, class satisfaction was investigated after application of active learning methods in the experimental group. Data were collected from 84 paramedic students and analyzed using SPSS 22.0 (IBM, Armonk, NY, USA). Results: The experimental group showed significant improvement in post-academic self-efficacy and knowledge. The experimental group also showed high clinical performance (9.83 out of 10 in ECG checking ability and 9.63 out of 10 in ECG reading ability). The mean satisfaction score was 4.23 out of 5 (responses based on a Likert scale) in the experimental group. Conclusion: Active learning in an ECG course was found to be highly effective and satisfactory. Furthermore, paramedic students can enhance their accountability and judgement with team-based learning through free engagement in discussion.

  • Nowadays, nations cyber security capabilities play an important role in a nation's defense. Security-critical infrastructures such as national defenses, public services, and financial services are now exposed to Advanced Persistent Threats (APT) and their resistance to such attacks effects the nations stability. Currently Cyber Threat Intelligence (CTI) is widely used by organizations to mitigate and deter APT for its ability to proactively protect their assets by using evidence-based knowledge. The evidence-based knowledge information can be exchanged among organizations and used by the receiving party to strengthen their cyber security management. This paper will discuss on the business process reengineering of the CTI information exchange management for a nationwide scaled control and governance by the government to better protect their national information security assets.

  • When automatic speech recognition (ASR) is provided as a cloud service, it is easy to collect voice and application domain data from users. Harnessing these data will facilitate the provision of more personalized services. In this paper, we demonstrate our transfer learning-based knowledge service that built with the user-generated data collected through our novel system that deliveries personalized ASR service. First, we discuss the motivation, challenges, and prospects of building up such a knowledge-based service-oriented system. Second, we present a Quadruple Transfer Learning (QTL) method that can learn a classification model from a source domain and transfer it to a target domain. Third, we provide an overview architecture of our novel system that collects voice data from mobile users, labels the data via crowdsourcing, utilises these collected user-generated data to train different machine learning models, and delivers the personalised real-time cloud services. Finally, we use the E-Book data collected from our system to train classification models and apply them in the smart TV domain, and the experimental results show that our QTL method is effective in two classification tasks, which confirms that the knowledge transfer provides a value-added service for the upper-layer mobile applications in different domains.

  • Several researches have been proposed to formalize the knowledge preconditions problem - j.e., an action or a plan is epistemically feasible. However, since the feasibility is only checked at design-time and is assumed that it will also 1)e feasible at run-time, it is not suitable in the context of Semantic Web services composition, where many agents should share the limited resources required for the execution of Web services composition. Therefore, in this paper, we formalize a transactionally executable Web services composition which enables to guarantee its atomicity. Moreover, in order to formalize the transactional executability, we propose $TL-ALCFK_{NF}$ which extends TL-ALCF with the modal operators K and A. Based on $TL-ALCFK_{NF}$, we show how to carry out the epistemic reasoning with TL-ALCF as a language to represent Semantic Web services composition.

Effects of a simulation-based Korean Advanced Life Support (KALS) program on knowledge, confidence, and critical thinking disposition for paramedic students (시뮬레이션 기반 한국전문소생술 교육이 응급구조과 대학생의 지식, 자신감 및 비판적 사고성향에 미치는 효과)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to test the effect of simulation-based learning on knowledge, confidence, and critical thinking of paramedical students enrolled in the Korean Advanced Life Support (KALS) program. This study used a one group, pre-post test design. Methods: The subjects of this study were 79 paramedical students in D city. Data were collected before and after the simulation-based training using a structured questionnaire. The data were analyzed using SPSS version 22.0. Results: After the simulation-based KALS education, knowledge (t=-6.88, p<.001) and confidence (t=-10.12, p<.001) increased among paramedical students. There was a positive correlation between confidence and critical thinking disposition (r=0.37, p=.001). Conclusion: A practical module for simulation-based education that can improve knowledge, confidence, and critical thinking disposition related to professional resuscitation is needed for use with paramedical students. Additionally, follow-up studies should be conducted to verify the educational effects of such a program.
