  • This paper examines the effects on academic achievement, scientific process skills and affective domain for elementary students learning the 'Chicken life cycle' through traditional science class versus a smart media based STEAM approach. Students designed and built a hatching jar and created a smart media content for chickens using time-lapse technology. This STEAM program was developed to improve their scientific concepts of animals over nine periods of classes using integrated education methods. The experimental study took place in the third grade of public schools in a province, with the STEAM approach applied in 2 classes (44 students) and the traditional discipline approach implemented in 2 classes (46 students). The STEAM education significantly influenced the improvement of academic achievements, basic scientific process skills and affective domain. The results suggest that this STEAM approach for teaching scientific concepts of animal life cycles has the performance in terms of knowledge, skills and affect gain achievements in elementary school students' learning when compared to a traditional approach. Moreover, the smart media based STEAM program is helpful to lead students to engage in integrated problem-solving designs and learning science and technology.

  • Life safety awareness level diagnosis is necessary for customized safety education and continuous safety awareness. As the starting stage of safety education for each life cycle, a scale that has verified the reliability and validity of high school students' life safety awareness has not yet been developed. In this context, the purpose of this study is to develop and validate the life safety awareness scale of high school students and to analyze interindividual differences. Questionnaire data was collected from April to June 2022 from 834 students in the first, second, and third grades of high schools in △△ city in Jeollabuk-do. A final 25-item scale was developed using the preliminary survey, preliminary test, the main test, descriptive statistical analysis, and exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis. This scale consists of four sub-factors: 'safety prevention', 'safety knowledge', 'safety preparation', and 'safety protection'. Good reliability and validity were verified by analysis of content validity and construct validity. The generalizability of the scale was verified by crossover validation between the search group and the crossover group. Based on the interindividual differences analysis, although there was a difference between genders in life safety awareness, there was no difference by grade level and academic achievement. This study is significant in developing the first valid scale that can measure high school students' life safety awareness and providing the necessity and rationale for life safety education by life cycle considering individual gender differences.

  • In traditional environments we have called the data life cycle DIKW, which represents data-information-knowledge-wisdom. In big data environments, on the other hand, we call it DIA, which represents data-insight-action. The difference between the two data life cycles results in new architecture of data resource management. In this paper, we study data resource management architecture for big data environments. Especially main components of the architecture are proposed in this paper.

  • This paper introduces an approach to an ontology-based multi-level knowledge framework for a knowledge management system for discrete-product development. Participants in a product life cycle want to share comprehensive product knowledge without any ambiguity and heterogeneity. However, previous knowledge management approaches are limited in providing those aspects: therefore, we suggest an ontology-based multi-level knowledge framework (OBMKF). The bottom level, the axiom, specifies the semantics of concepts and relations of knowledge so ambiguity can be alleviated. The middle level is a product development knowledge map; it defines the concepts and the relations of the product domain knowledge and guides the engineer to process their engineering decisions. The middle level is then classified further into more detailed levels, such as generic product level, specific product level, product version level, and manufactured item level, according to the various viewpoints. The top level is specialized knowledge for a specific domain that gives the solution of a specific task or problem. It is classified into three knowledge types: expert knowledge, engineering function knowledge, and data-analysis-based knowledge. This proposed framework is based on ontology to accommodate a comprehensive range of knowledge and is represented with first-order logic to maintain a uniform representation.

  • Engineering is a sector with more than three times the industrial effectiveness of manufacturing. In the domestic engineering life cycle, the Operations & Maintenance (O&M) phase is a relatively high level of technology. Based on accumulated knowledge of O&M phase, it is necessary to advance operating technology and expand overseas O&M market expenditure. This study is the early stage of knowledge-based power plant O&M service framework reference model. In this study, we propose a conceptual model of architecture framework for power plant O&M. We survey the architecture framework and reference model and propose conceptual model of architecture framework for power plant O&M. The conceptual model of architecture framework for power plant O&M consists of stakeholder, O&M scenario, O&M technology. In particular, the O&M technology is defined as the fourth industrial revolution intelligence information technology. We defined a meta model from the conceptual model to define the power plant O&M architecture framework. In the future, we intend to development an architecture framework from the conceptual model and meta model.

  • Shipbuilding is a complex industry which contains a lot of knowledge, technology, and utilities. Hence, the necessity of the PLM (Product Life-cycle Management) system which manages life-cycle information of marine product has been increased. So, many studies related to shipbuilding PLM have been preceded, and there are some cases to be built. To implement collaboration and concurrent engineering of ship designing and manufacturing, interoperability of product data in heterogeneous system is required. Also, sharing and reusing knowledge are important for innovation of business process and productivity of enterprises. Even though many studies related interoperability of product data are going on in varies domain, the application to shipbuilding is deficient. This paper proposes a methodology for management and interconnection of BOM data based on ontology in heterogeneous PLM system of shipbuilding. Using Prot$\'{e}$g$\'{e}$-OWL, we built simple domain ontology of shipbuilding industry, and then, we integrated product information of shipbuilding BOM which is represented with different ontologies. We verified possibility of integration of shipbuilding BOM in heterogeneous PLM, using ontology.

  • The purpose of this study is to perform comparative economic evaluation for the systems of ground source heat pump (GSHP) and district heating and cooling (DHC) by focusing on the analysis of operation case of GSHP. The adapted research object is a public office building located in Seoul. The capacity of ground source pump is about 3,900 kW. Ground heat exchanger is closed loop type. The analysis period for life cycle cost is 30 years. Economic evaluation is assessed from the viewpoints of the following four parts: initial cost, energy cost, maintenance and replacement cost, and environment cost. The total life cycle cost of GSHP is approximately 8,447 million won. The cost of the DHC System is approximately 3,793 million won. The cost of the DHC is approximately 46% lower than GSHP system under the condition of current rate for GSHP and DHC.

  • A company needs low cost and high efficient S/W tools to improve the white color productivity in daily operation, These needs may be satisfied by end-user knowledge management system to be suggested in this paper. We suggest that the end-user knowledge management is not made by specialized developer but directly made by end-users of some related managers using company-wide DB and department DB. We expect that this end-user knowledge management system will increase the efficiency of end-user daily operation and minimize the total life cycle cost of end-user computing system in industry. The suggested end-user knowledge management system has been tested in some companies through the training course.

  • A monoterpene lactone, loliolide was successively isolated from brown seaweed, Sargassum ringgoldianum subsp. coreanum using column chromatography and high-performance liquid chromatography. The structure of the isolated compound was determined by comparison of EIMS and NMR spectral data with the previously published data. The antioxidant activities of loliolide were also evaluated by DPPH and $H_2O_2$ radical and intracellular reactive oxygen species scavenging assays, and it showed moderate activities in all antioxidant assays. Furthermore, loliolide was found to exert positive dose-dependent effects in the protective effects against $H_2O_2$-induced cell damage which were determined via MTT, Hoechst staining assays and cell cycle analysis. This is the first study on chemical constituent of this seaweed according to our best knowledge. These results clearly indicated that loliolide isolated from Sargassum ringgoldianum subsp. coreanum can protect the cells against $H_2O_2$-induced cell damage or apoptosis.
