Prediction and Evaluation Method of Energy Consumption in Machine Tools (공작기계의 에너지 소비량 평가기법 및 예측기술)

  • In this paper, main mechanism and measurement method of energy consumption for machine tools are investigated by experiment and simulation. To evaluate total energy consumption of the machine tools, standard test workpiece and measuring method and test procedures are suggested. And, improvement of energy consumption evaluation by the motion kinematics theory is used. In addition, to estimate energy consumption of machine tools in design process, mass distribution of the structure and 5 axis motions are investigated and simulated by numerical analysis.

  • An adaptronic strut for machine tools with parallel kinematics for compensation of the influence of geometric errors is introduced. Implemented within the strut is a piezoelectric sensor-actuator unit separated in function. In the first part of this contribution, the functional principle of the strut is presented. For use of one piezoelectric transducer as both, sensor and actuator as so-called self-sensing actuator, the acquisition of the sensing signal while actuating simultaneously using electrical bridge circuits as well as filter properties are examined. In the second part the control concept developed for the adaptronic strut is presented. A co-simulation model of the strut for simulating the controlled multi-body behavior of the strut is set-up. The control design for the strut as a stand-alone system is tested under various external loads. Finally, the strut is implemented into a model of the complete machine tool and the influence of the controlled strut onto the behavior of the machine tool is examined.

  • This paper presents the development of system and program for a Parallel-Typed CNC Machine. The system consists of parallel manipulator, PC (Personal Computer), DMC (DSP Motion Controller), and machining tools. In order to control the manipulator, the program, which is implemented in "c/c++" language, involves inverse/direct kinematics, velocity mapping, Jacobian and etc. A controller computes the kinematic formulation in real-time and generates and motion by the DMC. A monitor, which has access to program and sensory information, displays the status of manipulator.nipulator.

  • This paper presents the design and project of an innovative concept for a Single Point Incremental Forming (SPIF) Machine. Nowadays, equipment currently available for conducting SPIF result mostly from the adaptation of conventional CNC machine tools that results in a limited range of applications in terms of materials and geometries. There is also a limited market supply of equipment dedicated to Incremental Sheet Forming (ISF), that are costly considering low batches, making it unattractive for industry. Other factors impairing a quicker spread of SPIF are large forming times and poor geometrical accuracy of parts. The following sections will depict the development of a new equipment, designed to overcome some of the limitations of machines currently used, allowing the development of a sounding basis for further studies on the particular features of this process. The equipment here described possesses six-degrees-of freedom for the tool, for the sake of improved flexibility in terms of achievable tool-paths and an extra stiffness provided by a parallel kinematics scheme. A brief state of the art about the existing SPIF machines is provided to support the project's guidelines.

Tool-trajectory Error at the Singular Area of Five-axis Machining - Part I: Trajectory Error Modeling - (5축 가공의 특이영역에서 공구궤적 오차 - Part I: 궤적오차 모델링 -)

  • This paper proposes an analytical method of evaluating the maximum error by modeling the exact tool path for the tool traverse singular region in five-axis machining. It is known that the NC data from the inverse kinematics transformation of 5-axis machining can generate singular positions where incoherent movements of the rotary axes can appear. These lead to unexpected errors and abrupt operations, resulting in scoring on the machined surface. To resolve this problem, previous methods have calculated several tool positions during a singular operation, using inverse kinematics equations to predict tool trajectory and approximate the maximum error. This type of numerical approach, configuring the tool trajectory, requires much computation time to obtain a sufficient number of tool positions in a region. We have derived an analytical equation for the tool trajectory in a singular area by modeling the tool operation into a linear and a nonlinear part that is a general form of the tool trajectory in the singular area and that is suitable for all types of five-axis machine tools. In addition, we have evaluated the maximum tool-path error exactly, using our analytical model. Our algorithm can be used to modify NC data, making the operation smoother and bringing any errors to within tolerance.

Virtual Prototyping of Portable Consumer Electronic Products Based on HMI Functional Simulation (HMI 기능 시뮬레이션 기반 개인용 휴대전자제품의 가상시작)

  • The functional behavior of a portable consumer electronic (PCE) product is nearly all expressed with human-machine interaction (HMI) tasks. Although physical prototyping and computer aided design (CAD) software can show the appearance of the product, they cannot properly reflect its functional behavior. In this paper, we propose a virtual prototyping (VP) system that incorporates virtual reality and HMI functional simulation in order to enables users to capture not only the realistic look of a PCE product but also its functional behavior. We obtain geometric part models of the product and their assembly and kinematics information with the help of CAD and reverse engineering tools, and visualize them with various display tools. We adopt state transition methodology to capture the HMI functional behavior of the product into a state transition chart, which is later used to construct a finite state machine (FSM) for the functional simulation of the product. The FSM plays an important role to control the transition between states of the product. The proposed VP system receives input events such as mouse clicks on buttons and switches of the virtual prototype model, and it reacts to the events based on the FSM by activating associated activities. The VP system provides the realistic visualization of the product and the vivid simulation of its functional behavior. It can easily allow users to perform functional evaluation and usability testing. Moreover, it can greatly reduce communication errors occurring in a typical product development process. A case study about VP of an MP3 player is given to show the usefulness of the proposed VP system.

Optimal Design of Tooth Profile for High-Efficiency Gerotor Oil Pump (지로터 오일 펌프의 성능 향상을 위한 치형의 최적 설계)

  • A gerotor pump is suitable for oil hydraulics of machine tools, automotive engines, compressors, constructions and other various applications, which are highly accepted by designers. Especially the pump is an essential machine element of an automotive engine to feed lubricant oil. However, related industries do not have necessary technology to design and optimize the pump and paid royalties of rotor profile on an advanced country. Also, gerotor pumps with unsettled design parameters have not been sufficiently analyzed from a theoretical view of design. Therefore, it is still very difficult for the pump designer and manufacturer to decide the specifications for the required gerotor pump by users. In this study, the design optimization has been carried out to determine the design parameters that maximize the specific flow rate and minimize the flow rate irregularity. Theoretical analyses and optimal design of the gerotor oil pump have been performed by mathematical base, numerical method and knowledge of kinematics. An automated design system of the tooth profile has been developed through Auto LISP language and CAD method considering various design parameters. Finally, an optimally designed model for a general type of a gerotor pump has been generated and experimentally verified for the pump performances.
