  • A cryogenic test facility has been developed to perform inducer and pump tests using liquid nitrogen. Performance tests of a turbopump in the maximum 50ton-thrust class can be performed with cryogenic fluid in the facility which operates at a temperature around -196oC with the rotational speed up to 30,000rpm To verify the reliability of the cryogenic pump test facility, hydraulic performance tests of an inducer were accomplished, and their results were compared with the result from a water test. The results confirm the reliability of the cryogenic test facility, and it is expected to contribute for on-going development of a turbopump for liquid rocket engines.

  • In this study, computational multi-body dynamics and structural vibration analyses including some impact condition have been conducted for the ground flight test system of the developed smart UAV model. Designed ground test system has four degree-of-freedom motions with limited motion control mechanism. Design safety margin designs for several structural components are tested and verified considering expected critical motions (pitching and rolling) of the test smart UAV model. Computational results for various analysis conditions are practically presented in detail. Futhermore, proper design modifications of the initially designed test equipment in order to guarantee or increase structural safety have been successfully conducted in the design stage.

  • This paper presents the calculation method for the equivalent-circuit parameters and torque characteristics of squirrel-cage induction motors. The measurement of motor parameters were calculated by the stator resistance test, the blocked rotor test and no load test to T type equivalent-circuit. Especially, this paper describes the test results obtained by using hall sensor and strain gauge for the current and torque characteristics of induction motors. Three-phase squirrel-cage induction motor which has 1[hp] was used to the test and the parameters obtained by the test were compared with the maker parameters.

  • In this paper, we propose the two-sample test statistic using Wilcoxon signed rank test on ranked-set sampling(RSS) and obtain the asymptotic relative efficiencies(ARE) of the proposed test statistic with respect to Mann-Whitney-Wilcoxon statistic on simple random sampling(SRS), the Mann-Whitney-Wilcoxon statistic on RSS, sign statistic on RSS and Wilcoxon signed rank test on SRS. From the simulation works, we compare the powers of the proposed test statistic, Mann-Whitney-Wilcoxon statistic on RSS, the usual two-sample t statistic, sign statistic on RSS, where the underlying distributions are uniform, normal, double exponential, logistic and Cauchy distributions.

  • This paper describes the result of structure analysis and load test of body structure. The purpose of the analysis and test is to evaluate an safety which body structure shall be considered fully sufficient rigidity so as to satisfy proper system function under maximum load and operating condition. Material of body structure applied an aluminum alloy. Body structure consist of side frame, under frame, roof frame, end frame. Both FEM analysis and load test are based on 'Performance Test Standard for Electrical Multiple Unit, noticed by Ministry of Construction & Transportation, in 2000' and reference code is JIS E 7105. The test results have been very safety and stable fer design load conditions.

  • With increasing interests in renewables, more consumers are installing an energy storage system (ESS) in their backyards, and thus, the ESS will play a critical role in the emerging smart grid. Due to mechanical properties, however its operational dynamics must be well understood before connecting the ESS to the smart grid (and eventually to an IT system). To this end, we investigate charging and discharging processes in detail. This paper, then, proposes methods for four type tests (state of charge test, conversion efficiency test, response time test, and ramp rate test) that can assess the dynamics of the ESS. The proposed methods can capture accurate delay values of mechanical processes in the ESS, and it is expected for those values to help design real-time communication systems in the smart grid involving the ESS.

  • This paper presents an experimental investigation examining water-cement ratio effects on fiber-matrix interface properties and on matrix fracture properties, which are used for designing mix proportion suitable for achieving strain-hardening behavior at a composite level. A single fiber pullout test and a wedge splitting test were employed to measure the bond properties in a matrix and the fracture toughness of mortar matrix, respectively. Test results showed that the properties tended to increase with decreasing water-cement ratio. Composite design using these test results will be discussed in the follow-up paper.

  • Small Overlap test decided on IIHS (Insurance Institute for Highway Safety) evaluates a robustness of the car body and a passenger injury protection. A current vehicle is satisfied with a robustness of the car body for Small Overlap test but not meet the requirements of passenger injuries because it is difficult to inquire into the actual state of injury mechanism for Small Overlap test. The study shows the new injury mechanism which represents the relation between a structure of the vehicle placed with the lift foot and the low extremity injury.

  • There are various elements that have influence on safety and reliability of high speed railway. Among them, mechanical characteristics of traction motors are very important. Therefore, we verified that temperature characteristics have influence on damage and durability of these parts. We designed a measurement system for temperature test, and could measure the temperature of each device by the system. As the result of temperature test, we could confirm that the traction motors on Korean High-Speed Train satisfy the criteria. From this test, we get information of the traction motor about the temperature characteristic during running speed and running time.

  • An Eectrolytic Corrosion(EC) test method was evaluated by the comparison with Copper Accelerated Acetic Salt Spray(CASS) and Neutral Salt Spray(SS) tests. Those methods were applied in order to evaluate corrosion resistance of Ni-Cr plated and Zn-plated Fe substrates. The correlations between results obtained by different test methods were investigated. Results showed that the electrochemical method such as the EC test method was superior to the conventional methods such as CASS and SS, in terms of the quantitative accuracy and the test-time span. Furthermore, the EC test method provided the useful means to estimate the initiation of corrosion of each layer by monitoring the rest potentials of the coated layers such as Ni, Cr, and Zn on Fe substrate. With regard to test time spans, the EC test provided the 78 times and 182 times faster results than the CASS test in cases of $Fe+5{\mu}m$ $Ni+0.5{\mu}m$ Cr and $Fe+20{\mu}m$ $Ni+0.5{\mu}m$ Cr respectively, while the EC test was 85 times faster results than the Salt Spray test in the case of $Fe+20g/m^2$ Zn. Therefore, the EC test can be the better method to evaluate the resistance to corrosion of coated layers than the conventional methods such as the SS test and the CASS.
