In order to produce information the author usually reference other authors' work. A citation index leads users to papers by citations. Citations lead the user to desired information. In this paper, KSCI(Korea Science Citation Index) which defines the relationships between citing documents and cited documents has been constructed. KSCI System is to solve problems for recursive retrieval in ISI's SCI(Science Citation Index) Path Encoding Indexing technique was used to solve the problems. From the analysis of data, this system has efficiency about 8.98% in the aspect of data storage. In the aspect of retrieval, there was efficiency between citing documents and cited documents, especially there was over 40% of efficiency in the retrieval of cited documents. It is concluded that suggested KSCI system will provide efficient storage and retrieval system.

In this study we analyze the present situation of cited and citing references among researchers, based on Korean Science Citation Index developed by Korea Institute of Science & Technology Information. There are some differences on the rank of frequently cited journals between JCR of ISI and KSCI, especially in the field of mechanical engineering. The purpose of this study is to find an efficient way of constructing KSCI database and to propose a service model which can be available as a tool to evaluate research activities and to provide researcher with basic information resources.

It is important for scientific and technological papers to build citation DB and to offer service. The best example of citation DB is SCI that has been utilized in the world. The majority of Korean journals is not SCI journal, so it is impossible for the domestic journals to conduct quantitative analysis and performance evaluation. Korea Science Citation Index Service is the alternative service to get rid of the above problem. In the study, we carried out the user satisfaction survey for new vision of service from existing KSCI, correcting the result data. We evaluated the data and then derived the level of current system and the future improvement direction.

The purpose of this study was to analyzes the present conditions of reference databases which is constructed from Korea. The object which is used in analysis concludes on KSCI( Korean Science Citation Index) of KISTI, KCI(Korean Citation Index) of KRF, KoMCI(Korean Medical Citation Index) of Korean Academy of Medical Sciences, and reference database of KOSEF. And then, this paper proposes the activation plan for reference database construction based on this analysis result. The proposed plan will be able to apply with fundamental data of the system, policy and technical direction for reference database construction.

Methodology Science Citation Index, developed by TS, has been used as an indicator to evaluate academic and research performance in worldwide research environment, as the world goes. With this trend, Korean Science Citation Index(KSCI) databases for domestic journals in the field of science and engineering have been constructed by some institutes such as KISTI, KRF, KOSEF, and so on. Many institutes in Korea are accepting the Impact Factor(IF) and SCI databases, proposed by TS as toolkits for evaluating research capability of their members without any criticism. However, the IF, mostly used as an analyzing tool, has been criticized by many different sectors. The validity of IF has been examined and/or complimented by a case study. In this study various indices as substitutes for IF are scrutinized and examined to maximize the usability of KSCI database.

인용문헌정보의 효율적인 저장과 검색을 위하여 인용한 문헌과 인용된 문헌들의 구성요소를 추출하고 상호 인용관계에 대한 논리정보와 구조정보를 재구성을 통해 표현하고, 패스인코딩 색인기법에 의해 구성요소의 중복을 제거하였으며, 관련 있는 데이터베이스들과의 연계를 위하여 XML을 기반으로 하는 KSCI(Korea Science Citation Index)시스템을 설계하였다.

A large and reliable citation database is necessary to identify and analyze citation behavior of Korean researchers in science and technology. Korea Institute of Science and Technology Information (KISTI) built the Korea Science Citation Database (KSCD), and have provided Korea Science Citation Index (KSCI) and Korea Journal Citation Reports (KJCR) services. In this article, citing behavior of Korean scientists on Korean journals was examined by using the KSCD that covers 459 Korean core journals. This research dealt with (1) statistical numeric information of journals in KSCD, (2) analysis of document types cited, (3) ratio of domestic to international documents cited and ratio of citing different disciplines, (4) analysis on immediacy index, peak time, and half-life of cited documents, and (5) analysis on impact of journals based on KJCR citation indicators. From this research, we could find the immediacy citation rate (average 2.36%), peak-time (average 1.7 years) and half-life (average 5.2 years) of cited journals in Korea. We also found that the average journal self-citation rate is more than 50% in every field. In sum, citing behavior of Korean scientists on Korean journals was comprehensively identified from this research.

There have been little comprehensive research for studying impact of foreign journals on Korean scientists. The main reason for this is because there was no extensive citation index database of domestic journals for analysis. Korea Institute of Science and Technology Information (KISTI) built the Korea Science Citation Database (KSCD), and have provided Korea Science Citation Index (KSCI) and Korea Journal Citation Reports (KJCR) services. In this article, citing behavior of Korean scientists on foreign journals was examined by using KSCD that covers Korean core journals. This research covers (1) analysis of foreign document types cited, (2) analysis of citation counts of foreign journals by subject and the ratio of citing different disciplines, (3) analysis of language and country of foreign documents cited, (4) analysis of publishers of journals and whether or not journals are listed on global citation index services and (5) analysis for current situation of subscribing to foreign electronic journals in Korea. The results of this research would be useful for establishing strategies for licensing foreign electronic journals and for information services. From this research, immediacy citation rate (average 1.46%), peak-time (average 3.9 years) and half-life (average 8 years) of cited foreign journals were identified. It was also found that Korean scientistis tend to cite journals covered in SCI(E) or SCOPUS, and 90% of cited foreign journals have been licensed by institutions in Korea.

The purpose of the study was to offer in-depth understanding of the women's wear research trend in South Korea and thus to provide insights from the findings throughout the study to set appropriate directions for further development of women's wear related researches in the clothing and textile study area. The study considered research papers published by the 6 major apparel related journals listed on the KCI(Korea Citation Index) i.e. journals of the Korean Society of Clothing and Textiles(KSCT), the Korean Society of Costume(KSC), the Costume Culture Association (CCA), the Korean Society of Fashion Business(KSFB), the Korean Home Economics Association (KHEA) and the Korean Society for Clothing Industry(KSCI). A total of 380 research papers that were related with women's wear published from 2001 to 2010 were selected for the study and analyzed in the form of descriptive statistics using the SPSS Software ver. 18.0. The analysis was categorized according to the journals, years and research theme. The research themes were divided into various categories such as, clothing construction, textile science, fashion aesthetics and design, costume history and culture, apparel psychology and fashion marketing. The results derived from the research were: (1) the ratio of the research papers on the women's wear to the total papers published from 2001 to 2010 by the 6 subject journals was 380 to 6,815, i.e. 5.6% of the total papers; (2) journal of KSCT published the most women's wear research papers (N=149, 39.2%) and then the rest in order were the journal of CCA (N=69, 18.2%), the journal of KSC (N=68, 17.9%), the journal of KSFB (N=52, 13.7%), the journal of KHEA (N=39, 10.3%) and the journal of KSCI (N=3, 0.7%); (3) the proportions of the research themes for the women's wear study were in the order of the case study in marketing (N=135, 35.5%), body measurements and sizing systems in clothing construction (N=88, 23.2%), fashion design and aesthetics (N=83, 21.8%), pattern-making (N=63, 16.6%), and color study (N=11, 2.9%) and so on.
