The present study provides reference data required for the design of clothing for the elderly by analyzing the body surface area during fitness motion based on 3D scan data of Korean elderly women. This study was conducted with the procedures of (1) survey of motions and main muscles for fitness, (2) acquisition of 3D scan data, and (3) analysis of rate of change for body surface area during fitness motion. Acquisition of 3D body scan data was obtained from seven elderly females (age: 64-77). We selected 66 anatomical landmarks (40 upper body and 22 lower body) by referring to previous studies. Body surface was segmented by connecting the landmarks marked on the 3D scan data acquired. Analysis of body surface area was conducted in terms of the change rate of surface area in 9 postures of elbow 0°, 90° and 180° for flexion, shoulder 90°, 180° for flexion, shoulder 0°, 180° for abduction, hip 90° for flexion, and knee 90° for flexion compared to the those in the standing posture. The amount of changes in body surface area were 12%-62% in the upper body, 15%-77% in the arm, and 10%-51% in the lower body. A future study on the rate of change of body surface length is needed; in addition, a study on how to apply the results of body surface area and body surface length analysis to clothing pattern design is also necessary.
As decreasing device size, probing of nanoscale surface properties becomes more significant. In particular, nanoscale probing of surface potential has paid much attention for understanding various surface phenomena. In this article, we review different atomic force microscopy techniques, including electrostatic force microscopy and Kelvin probe force microscopy, for measuring surface potential at the nanoscale. The review could provide fundamental information on the probing method of surface potential using atomic force microscopy.

The influence of electron irradiation and hydrogen adsorption on the electronic structure of the $SrTiO_3$ (001) surface was investigated by ultraviolet photoemission spectroscopy (UPS). Upon electron irradiation of the surface, UPS revealed an electronic state within the band gap (in-gap state: IGS) with the surface kept at $1{\times}1$. This is considered to originate from oxygen vacancies at the topmost surface formed by electron-stimulated desorption of oxygen. Electron irradiation also caused a downward shift of the valence band maximum indicating downward band-bending and formation of a conductive layer on the surface. With oxygen dosage on the electron-irradiated surface, on the other hand, the IGS intensity was decreased along with upward band-bending, which points to disappearance of the conductive layer. The results indicate that electron irradiation and oxygen dosage allow us to control the surface electronic structure between semiconducting (nearly-vacancy free: NVF) and metallic (oxygen de cient: OD) regimes by changing the density of the oxygen vacancy. When the NVF surface was exposed to atomic hydrogen, in-gap states were induced along with downward band bending. The hydrogen saturation coverage was evaluated to be $3.1{\pm}0.8{\times}10^{14}cm^{-2}$ with nuclear reaction analysis. From the IGS intensity and H coverage, we argue that H is positively charged as $H^{{\sim}0:3+}$ on the NVF surface. On the OD surface, on the other hand, the IGS intensity due to oxygen vacancies was found to decrease to half the initial value with molecular hydrogen dosage. H is expected to be negatively charged as $H^-$ on the OD surface by occupying the oxygen vacancy site.

Surface states of polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) treated by plasma were investigated by the analysis by x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and surface voltage decay. Plasma treatment causes the silica-like(SiO$\_$x/, x=3∼4) oxidative layer, which is confirmed with XPS, and lowers surface resistivity from 1.78$\times$1014 Ω/square to 1.09$\times$10$\^$13/ Ω/square with increasing the plasma treatment time. By measuring the decay time constant of surface voltage, the calculated surface resistivity was compared with the value directly measured by a voltage-current method, so good agreement between two methods was obtained. It was observed that the plasma treatment led to decrease of the thermal activation energy of the surface conduction from 31.0 kJ/mol of untreated specimen to 21.8 kJ/mol. It is found that our results allow the examination of effects of plasma on electrical properties of PDMS.

A hydrophobic surface has been fabricated on aluminum by two-step surface treatment processes consisting of structure modification and surface coating. Nature inspired micro nano scale structures were artificially created on the aluminum surface by a blasting and Ar ion beam etching. And a hydrophobic thin film was coated by a trimethylsilane ($(CH_3)_3SiH$) plasma deposition to minimize the surface energy of the micro nano structure surface. The contact angle of micro nano structured aluminum surface with the trimethylsilane coating was $123^{\circ}$ (surface energy: 9.05 $mJ/m^2$), but the contact angle of only trimethylsilane coated sample without the micro nano surface structure was $92^{\circ}$ (surface energy: 99.15 $mJ/m^2$). In the hydrophobic treatment of aluminum surface, a trimethylsilane coated sample having the micro nano structure was more effective than only trimethylsilane coated sample without the micro nano structure.

PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of balance training on different support surface (affected and non-affected sides) on the balance and gait function of chronic stroke patients. METHODS: The patients were randomly assigned to 1 of 4 groups. Group 1 received balance training on the stable surface, group 2 received balance training on the unstable surface, group 3 received balance training on different support surface (affected side: stable surface, non-affected side: unstable surface), and group 4 received balance training on different support surface (affected side: unstable, non-affected side: stable). Twelve sessions (30 min/d, 3 times/wk for 4 wk) were applied. There were assessed before and after the intervention with Balancia, functional reach test (FRT), lateral reach test (LRT), timed up-and-go (TUG), and 10-meter walking test (10MWT). RESULTS: After the training, all of the groups improved significantly than before training in Balancia, FRT, LRT, TUG, and 10MWT. There were significantly variable in sway distance, FRT, LRT, TUG, and 10MWT among the 4 groups. Post hoc analysis revealed that the group 3 had significantly higher results than other 3 groups in sway distance, and FRT, LRT, TUG, and 10MWT. CONCLUSION: Balance training on different support surface (affected side: stable surface, non-affected side: unstable surface) could facilitate a stronger beneficial effect on balance and walking ability than other balance trainings on different support surface in patients with stroke.

Kinect sensor has two output data which are produced from red green blue (RGB) sensor and depth sensor, it is called color image and depth map, respectively. Although this device's prices are cheapest than the other devices for three-dimensional (3D) reconstruction, we need extra work for reconstruct a smooth 3D data and also have semantic meaning. It happened because the depth map, which has been produced from depth sensor usually have a coarse and empty value. Consequently, it can be make artifact and holes on the surface, when we reconstruct it to 3D directly. In this paper, we present a method for solving this problem by using implicit surface representation. The key idea for represent implicit surface is by using radial basis function (RBF) and to avoid the trivial solution that the implicit function is zero everywhere, we need to defined on-surface point and off-surface point. Based on our simulation results using captured face as an input, we can produce smooth 3D face and fill the holes on the 3D face surface, since RBF is good for interpolation and holes filling. Modified anisotropic diffusion is used to produced smoothed surface.

In this work, anodic oxidation behavior of AZ31 Mg alloy was studied as a function of $Na_2CO_3$ concentration in electrolyte by voltage-time curves and observation of surface appearances and morphologies after the anodic treatments, using optical microscopy and confocal scanning laser microscopy (CSLM). The voltage-time curves of AZ31 Mg alloy surface and surface appearances after the anodic treatments showed three different regions with $Na_2CO_3$ concentration : region I, below 0.2 M $Na_2CO_3$ where shiny surface with a number of small size pits; region II, between 0.4 M and 0.6 M $Na_2CO_3$ where dark surface with relatively low number of large size burned or dark spots; region III, more than 0.8 M $Na_2CO_3$ where bright surface with or without large size dark spots were obtained. The anodically treated AZ31 Mg alloy surface became significantly brightened with increasing $Na_2CO_3$ concentration from 0.5 M to 0.8 M which was attribute to the formation of denser and smoother surface films. Pits and porous protruding reaction products were found at relatively large size and small size spots, respectively, on the AZ31 Mg alloy surface in low concentration of $Na_2CO_3$ less than 0.2 M. The formation of pits is attributed to the result of repetition of the formation and detachment of porous anodic reaction products. Based on the experimental results obtained in this work, it is concluded that more uniform, denser and smoother surface of AZ31 Mg alloy could be obtained at more than 0.8 M $Na_2CO_3$ concentration if there is no other oxide forming agent.
To improve the low resistance of ceramics to tensile stress, many techniques, for introducing and retaining surface compressive stress have been suggested. In present work, in order to introduce the compressive stress on the surface of TZP ceramics TZP-Al2O3 composites were made with infiltration technique. Highly porous 3Y-TZP pre-sintered specimens were submerged in AlOOH(boehmite) sol and the sol penetrated into them through open pore channels with moderate depth after that specimens were sintered. It was known that controlling the number of infiltration time can vary the amount of Al2O3 phase and the fraction of alumina at surface reached up to 18%. The depth of composite surface layer were 100~200 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$, and these were acceptable in surface strengthening which were proved by Vickers hardness indentation method.
The adsorptions of trimethygallium (TMG) and arsine (As$H_3$) on H/Si(100)-2x1 surface were theoretically investigated. In the case of TMG adsorption, methane loss reaction, surface methylation, hydrogen loss reaction and ring closing reaction channels were found. The mechanism of As$H_3$ adsorption on the surface was also identified. Among these, the methane loss reaction depositing –Ga(C$H_3)_2$ was found to be the major channel due to its low barrier height and the large exothermicity. The surface methylation reaction is the second most favorable channel. In contrast, arsine turned out to be less reactive on the surface, implying that Arsine surface reaction would be the rate limiting step in the overall ALD process.
