In this paper, we propose a method to analyze the clusters of RF threats emitting electrical signals based on collected signal variables in integrated electronic warfare environments. We first analyze the signal variables collected by an electronic warfare receiver, and construct a model based on variables showing the properties of threats. To visualize the distribution of RF threats and reversely identify them, we use k-means clustering algorithm and self-organizing map (SOM) algorithm, which are belonging to unsupervised learning techniques. Through the resulting model compiled by k-means clustering and SOM algorithms, the RF threats can be classified into one of the distribution of RF threats. In an experiment, we measure the accuracy of classification results using the algorithms, and verify the resulting model that could be used to visually recognize the distribution of RF threats.

Recently, as various examples of machine learning have been applied in the healthcare field, deep learning technology has been applied to various tasks, such as electrocardiogram examination and body composition analysis using wearable devices such as smart watches. To utilize deep learning, securing data is the most important procedure, where human intervention, such as data classification, is required. In this study, we propose a model that uses a clustering algorithm, namely, the K-means clustering, to label body fat according to gender and age considering body size aspects, such as chest circumference and waist circumference, and classifies body fat into five groups from high risk to low risk using a convolutional neural network (CNN). As a result of model validation, accuracy, precision, and recall results of more than 95% were obtained. Thus, rational decision making can be made in the field of healthcare or obesity analysis using the proposed method.

Investors aim to increase their profitability by investing in the stock market. An adroit strategy for minimizing related risk lies through diversifying portfolio operationalization. In this paper, we propose a six-step stocks portfolio selection model. This model is based on data mining clustering techniques that reflect the ensuing impact of the political, economic, legal, and corporate governance in Mongolia. As a dataset, we have selected stock exchange trading price, financial statements, and operational reports of top-20 highly capitalized stocks that were traded at the Mongolian Stock Exchange from 2013 to 2017. In order to cluster the stock returns and risks, we have used k-means clustering techniques. We have combined both k-means clustering with Markowitz's portfolio theory to create an optimal and efficient portfolio. We constructed an efficient frontier, creating 15 portfolios, and computed the weight of stocks in each portfolio. From these portfolio options, the investor is given a choice to choose any one option.
This study is purported for suggesting a new clustering algorithm that enables incremental categorization of numerous documents. The suggested algorithm adopts the natures of the spherical k-means algorithm, which clusters a mass amount of high-dimensional documents, and the fuzzy ART(adaptive resonance theory) neural network, which performs clustering incrementally. In short, the suggested algorithm is a combination of the spherical k-means vector space model and concept vector and fuzzy ART vigilance parameter. The new algorithm not only supports incremental clustering and automatically sets the appropriate number of clusters, but also solves the current problems of overfitting caused by outlier and noise. Additionally, concerning the objective function value, which measures the cluster's coherence that is used to evaluate the quality of produced clusters, tests on the CLASSIC3 data set showed that the newly suggested algorithm works better than the spherical k-means by 8.04% in average.
We accomplish clustering analyses for yeast cell cycle microarray expression data. To reflect the characteristics of a time-course data, we screen the genes using the test statistics with Fourier coefficients applying a FDR procedure. We compare the results done by model-based clustering, K-means, PAM, SOM, hierarchical Ward method and Fuzzy method with the yeast data. As the validity measure for clustering results, connectivity, Dunn index and silhouette values are computed and compared. A biological interpretation with GO analysis is also included.

In this paper, we propose the ensemble-based classification model which extracts just new data patterns from the streaming-data by using clustering and generates new classification models to be added to the ensemble in order to reduce the number of data labeling while it keeps the accuracy of the existing system. The proposed technique performs clustering of similar patterned data from streaming data. It performs the data labeling to each cluster at the point when a certain amount of data has been gathered. The proposed technique applies the K-NN technique to the classification model unit in order to keep the accuracy of the existing system while it uses a small amount of data. The proposed technique is efficient as using about 3% less data comparing with the existing technique as shown the simulation results for benchmarks, thereby using clustering.

Aggressive driving is a major cause of car accidents. Previous studies have mainly analyzed young driver's aggressive driving tendency, yet they were only done through pure clustering or classification technique of machine learning. However, since elderly people have different driving habits due to their fragile physical conditions, it is necessary to develop a new method such as enhancing the characteristics of driving data to properly analyze aggressive driving of elderly drivers. In this study, acceleration data collected from a smartphone of a driving vehicle is analyzed by a newly proposed ECA(Enhanced Clustering method for Acceleration data) technique, coupled with a conventional clustering technique (K-means Clustering, Expectation-maximization algorithm). ECA selects high-intensity data among the data of the cluster group detected through K-means and EM in all of the subjects' data and models the characteristic data through the scaled value. Using this method, the aggressive driving data of all youth and elderly experiment participants were collected, unlike the pure clustering method. We further found that the K-means clustering has higher detection efficiency than EM method. Also, the results of K-means clustering demonstrate that a young driver has a driving strength 1.29 times higher than that of an elderly driver. In conclusion, the proposed method of our research is able to detect aggressive driving maneuvers from data of the elderly having low operating intensity. The proposed method is able to construct a customized safe driving system for the elderly driver. In the future, it will be possible to detect abnormal driving conditions and to use the collected data for early warning to drivers.

The purpose of this study is to identify the pattern of daily electricity demand through clustering and classification. The hourly data was collected by KPS (Korea Power Exchange) between 2008 and 2012. The time trend was eliminated for conducting the pattern of daily electricity demand because electricity demand data is times series data. We have considered k-means clustering, Gaussian mixture model clustering, and functional clustering in order to find the optimal clustering method. The classification analysis was conducted to understand the relationship between external factors, day of the week, holiday, and weather. Data was divided into training data and test data. Training data consisted of external factors and clustered number between 2008 and 2011. Test data was daily data of external factors in 2012. Decision tree, random forest, Support vector machine, and Naive Bayes were used. As a result, Gaussian model based clustering and random forest showed the best prediction performance when the number of cluster was 8.
The fuzzy c-means (FCM) is a frequently utilized algorithm at present. Yet, the clustering quality and convergence rate of FCM are determined by the initial cluster centers, and so an improved FCM algorithm based on canopy cluster concept to quickly analyze the dataset has been proposed. Taking advantage of the canopy algorithm for its rapid acquisition of cluster centers, this algorithm regards the cluster results of canopy as the input. In this way, the convergence rate of the FCM algorithm is accelerated. Meanwhile, the MapReduce scheme of the proposed FCM algorithm is designed in a cloud environment. Experimental results demonstrate the hybrid canopy-FCM clustering algorithm processed by MapReduce be endowed with better clustering quality and higher operation speed.
Academic analytics guides university decision-makers to assign limited resources more effectively. Especially, diverse academic courses clustered by the usage patterns and levels on Learning Management System(LMS) help understanding instructors' pedagogical approach and the integration level of technologies. Further, the clustering results can contribute deciding proper range and levels of financial and technical supports. However, in spite of diverse analytic methodologies, clustering analysis methods often provide different results. The purpose of this study is to present implications by using three different clustering analysis including Gaussian Mixture Model, K-Means clustering, and Hierarchical clustering. As a case, we have clustered academic courses based on the usage levels and patterns of LMS in higher education using those three clustering techniques. In this study, 2,639 courses opened during 2013 fall semester in a large private university located in South Korea were analyzed with 13 observation variables that represent the characteristics of academic courses. The results of analysis show that the strengths and weakness of each clustering analysis and suggest that academic leaders and university staff should look into the usage levels and patterns of LMS with more elaborated view and take an integrated approach with different analytic methods for their strategic decision on development of LMS.
