  • This study investigates why Korean English speakers misunderstand the English article system, which article Korean EFL learners use more accurately in their English writings, and implications for English writing instruction from Korean EFL learners' utterances. There have been numerous studies on the acquisition of English article system by non-native English speakers. Those studies agree that acquiring English articles is difficult for learners of English as a second language. As a result, in this study, many English learners use the definite and indefinite articles a/an. Many wrote articles from their writings, and occasionally, errors of excessive use of definite articles occurred. Through this, this paper investigates how a Korean English learner whose native language has no articles chooses the English article system in speech. It is based on the elicited production of the Korean English learner and suggests some implications for teaching English writing in the classroom. When English instructors teach Korean English learners to write English, it is more important than anything else to practice the correct usage of definite articles or indefinite articles.

  • Objectives : This study was aimed to analyze the correlation between the Herbology and contemporary research results, KCD and terms of Alismatis Rhizoma. The study will present information that can be used to find the direction of further researches and be applied to the education of Herbology. Methods : Papers were searched in Riss4U and PubMed, and categorized. Medicine or pharmacy articles about Alismatis Rhizoma were matched with the Herbology treatment and KCD. KCD-codes and terms were arranged by the Herbology treatment. The Degree of Herbology research (HDR) was calculated by numbers of papers, study method, citation rates. Results : There were 392 articles about Alismatis Rhizoma. Among these there were 141 medicine and pharmacy articles about Alismatis Rhizoma, and 51 articles were matched to the Herbology treatment. Studies about Phlegm-Fluid Retention and Dizziness, Edema and Distention and Fullness was more active than others. Analysis of other articles showed that studies about anti-cancer, anti-biotic effect, anti-diabetes mellitus, anti-oxidant effect, anti-inflammation, hepatoprotective effect were active, too. In HDR, Phlegm-Fluid Retention and Dizziness was scored by 181, Edema- Distention and Fullness by 173, Hyperlipidemia by 83, Dysuria 64, Heat strangury pain by 18, Diarrhea and decreased urine volum by 0.Conclusions : 141 articles about Alismatis Rhizoma were analyzed and 51 articles were matched to the Herbology treatment. Studies about Phlegm-Fluid Retention and Dizziness, Edema and Distention and Fullness were more active than others. And studies about anti-cancer, anti-biotic effect, anti-oxidant effect, anti-inflammation, Osteoporosis should be more studied and be more discussed among Herbology researchers.

  • There are many different researches about how to analyze issues based on real-time news streams. But, there are few researches which analyze issues hierarchically from news articles and even a previous research of hierarchical issue analysis make clustering speed slower as the increment of news articles. In this paper, we propose a hierarchical and incremental clustering for semi real-time issue analysis on news articles. We trained siamese neural network based weighted cosine similarity model, applied this model to k-means algorithm which is used to make word clusters and converted news articles to document vectors by using these word clusters. Finally, we initialized an issue cluster tree from document vectors, updated this tree whenever news articles happen, and analyzed issues in semi real-time. Through the experiment and evaluation, we showed that up to about 0.26 performance has been improved in terms of NMI. Also, in terms of speed of incremental clustering, we also showed about 10 times faster than before.

  • Objectives: The purpose of this study was to examine trends in duplicate publication in Korean medical articles indexed in the Oriental Medicine Advanced Searching Integrated System(OASIS). Methods: We searched the list of papers published in Korean medical journals by using OASIS. We randomly extracted 10% of total articles (n=1,162). We searched using OASIS by entering keywords from the title and names of the first and last authors of each indexed article. After the librarian selected the candidates of duplicate publication, three authors reviewed the full texts of the articles independently. When their opinions were not in agreement, reconciliation was made by discussion. The patterns of duplicate publication, such as copy, salami slicing (fragmentation), and aggregation (imalas), were also determined. Results: A total of 1162 articles were evaluated, 24 (2.1%) index articles of which were duplicate articles. Among 24 index articles, Two were triple publications and 22 were double publications. The patterns of duplication publication were as follows; (1) copy (n=8, 33.3%); (2) salami (9, 37.5%), (3) imalas (5, 20.8%) (4) others (2, 8.3%). Conclusion: Duplicate publications have appeared in Korean medical journals in a small proportion. Education on publication ethics and authors'ethical awareness is needed.
