The purposes of this research were to find out general trends of employed women's stress and to investigate the differences and effects of related variables. The data were obtained through 239 employed women living in Kwangju and Chonnam. The major findings were as follows : 1) Employed women's scores of stressor, stress cognition and distress were under medium but coping scores were relatively high. 2) Significant differences in employed women's stressors were found according to age, income, job satisfaction, and family life cycle. Stress cognition differed according to job adjustment conditions and self-esteem. Also distress related with job conditions and object. Stress coping levels were different according to income, job conditions, self-esteem, and sex-role attitude. 3) In analyzing the causal effects among related variables, employed women's stressors were affected by job satisfaction and age. Also stress cognition were influenced by job satisfation and self-esteem. Job conditions showed significant effects on distress and self-esteem, sex-role attitudes showed on coping. Conclusively job satisfaction, self-esteem and gender equality were most important variables for employed women's stress. (Korean J of Human Ecology 2(1) : 25-37 1999)
Modern job seekers often visit recruitment web-site for employment. Recruiting on the Internet is one of the fastest-growing recruitment methods. But there was not research about Internet recruitment in health care labor market. The purpose of this study is to research the actual conditions of hospital recruitment by using internet homepage of Korea College of Hospital Administrators(KCHA). Data were collected from 399 iob posting and job seeker's interest in Internet homepage of KCHA. This study analyzed the research model using data mining method. This study shows that the frequency of job posting and job seeker's interest depend upon a season. The result of this study indicates that there is necessity to present the various and specific employment conditions. As the recruitment becomes job seeker-centered in other industry labor market, it is also recommended in the health labor market. Therefore a job posting should provide a salary range and emphasize competitive benefits for job seekers in the health labor market.
This study is concerned with a job sequencing method using the concept of sampling technique. This sampling technique has never been applied to develop the scheduling algorithms. The most job sequencing algorithms have been developed to determine the best or good solution under the special conditions. Thus, it is not only very difficult, but also taken too much time to develop the appropriate job schedules that satisfy the complex work conditions. The application areas of these algorithms are also very narrow. Under these circumstances it is very desirable to develop a simple job sequencing method which can produce the good solution with the short tine period under any complex work conditions. It is called a sampling job sequencing method in this study. This study is to examine the selection of the good job sequence of 1%-5% upper group by the sampling method. The result shows that there is the set of 0.5%-5% job sequence group which has to same amount of performance measure with the optimal job sequence in the case of experiment of 2/n/F/F max. This indicates that the sampling job sequencing method is a useful job sequencing method to find the optimal or good job sequence with a little effort and time consuming. The results of ANOVA show that the two factors, number of jobs and the range of processing time are the significant factors for determining the job sequence at $\alpha$=0.01. This study is extended to 3 machines to machines job shop problems further.
Despite the maturity of platforms, only some studies have explored the relationships between the working conditions of platform workers and their organization-like responses to these platforms. Thus, this research utilized the Job Demands-Resources Model (JD-R Model) to analyze the effects of job demands and resources on platform workers' job embracing. The data were collected from 182 food delivery riders in South Korea. This study utilized the PLS technique (partial least squares) to examine the research model. Regarding job demands, this study has found that work overload and physical effort significantly affect burnout. Regarding job resources, the results revealed that service technology support and training significantly affect work engagement. In alignment with the Job Demands-Resources literature, the findings offer tangible proof that burnout has a detrimental impact on job embracing, whereas work engagement has a beneficial effect on job embracing. Our findings indicate that work engagement exerts a more substantial beneficial effect on job embracing, and burnout reduces job embracing. Results also provide novel insights to scholars seeking a comprehensive research model on the impact of on-demand workplace conditions to help platforms attract and retain platform workers.
Background: The purposes of this study is to analysis the differences of the job satisfaction between regular and non-regular workers in hospitals. Methods: The samples used for data analysis are 632 workers of 6 hospitals using a standardized questionnaires in B, C, D, and G provinces. In research methodology, all the data were analyzed with descriptive statistics, t-test, Pearson's correlation, and multiple linear regression analysis. Results: In case of regular workers, communication, working conditions and employee benefit, and education were found to have a significant positive (+) effect on job satisfaction. In case of non-regular workers, empowerment, reward systems, communication, working conditions, and employee benefit had a significant positive (+) effect on job satisfaction. Conclusion: These results showed that hospitals needed to reinforce communication, working conditions and employee benefit to regular and non-regular workers in order to improve job satisfaction. Especially, more empowerment, working conditions, and employee benefit should be given to non-regular workers.
Background: The present study aims to investigate job stressors and stress relievers for Korean emotional laborers, specifically focusing on the effects of work conditions and emotional labor properties. Emotional laborers are asked to hide or distort their real emotions in their interaction with clients. They are exposed to high levels of stress in the emotional labor process, which leads to serious mental health risks including burnout, depression, and even suicide impulse. Exploring job stressors and relieving factors would be the first step in seeking alternatives to protect emotional laborers from those mental health risks. Methods: Using the third wave data of Korean Working Conditions Survey, logistic regression analysis was conducted for two purposes: to examine the relations of emotional labor and stress, and to find out job stressors and relievers for emotional laborers. Results: The chances of stress arousal are 3.5 times higher for emotional laborers; emotional laborers experience double risk-burden for stress arousal. In addition to general job stressors, emotional laborers need to bear burdens related to emotional labor properties. The effect of social support at the workplace is not significant for stress relief, unlike common assumptions, whereas subjective satisfaction (wage satisfaction and work-life balance) is proven to have relieving effects on emotional laborers' job stress. Conclusion: From the results, the importance of a balanced understanding of emotional labor for establishing effective policies for emotional laborer protection is stressed.
This study is concerned with a job sequencing method using the concept of sampling technique in the case of Job Shop. This is the follow study of Kang and Ro (1988) which examined the possibility of application of sampling technique to determine the Job Sequence in the case of Flow Shop. Not only it is very difficult, but also it takes too much time to develop the appropriate job schedules that satisfy the complex work conditions. The most job sequencing algorithms have been developed to determine the best or good solution under the special conditions or assumptions. The application areas of these algorithms are also very narrow, so it is very hard to find the appropriate algorithm which satisfy the complex work conditions. In this case it is very desirable to develop a simple job sequencing method which can select the optimal job sequence or near optimal job sequence with a little effort. This study is to examine the effect of sampling job sequencing which can select the good job of 0.01%~5% upper good group. The result shows that there is the sets of 0.05%~23% job sequence group which has the same amount of performance measure with the optimal job sequence in the case of experiment of N/M/G/$F_{max}$. This indicates that the sampling job sequencing method is a useful job sequencing method to find the optimal or good job sequence with consuming a small amount of time. The results of ANOVA show that the only one factor, number of machines is the significant factor for determining the job sequence at ${\alpha}=0.01$. It takes about 10 minutes to compare the number of 10,000 samples of job sequence by personal computer and it is proved that the selection rate of the same job sequence with optimal job sequence is 23.0%, 3.9% and 0.065% in the case of 2 machines, 3 machines and 4 machines, respectively. The area of application can readily be extended to the other work condition.
The purpose of this study was 1) to understand the job transfer in education & training(E&T) programs & organizational situational characteristics, and 2) to analyze the effects of the E&T programs & organizational situational characteristic groups on each of the levels of job transfer. There is intimate relationship between E&T programs characteristics & organizational situational characteristics and job transfer, so we can't think of them separately. With this point of view the most frequently discussed problem is how to apply the theory in actual job, but in reality it's true that the improvement of job transfer can't reach the expectations of the E&T programs. In literature view study, the concepts of job transfer in E&T, the general theory on E&T, and the actual condition and points at issue of the existing E&T practices in the medium and small-sized hospitals were defined. As the results from empirical analysis, we could find followings: First, in evaluation of the job transfer, demographic characteristics (seniority, occupational category, position) variables have a significant different. Second, in degree of the job transfer, E&T programs characteristics(contents of E&T, design of E&T, conditions of E&T, teaching ability of lecturer, methods of E&T) variables have a different influence upon each of the evaluation levels of E&T. Third, support of CEO variables have a different influence on the job transfer according to contents, design, conditions of the E&T programs. Fourth, support of co-works variables have a different influence on the job transfer according to design, conditions, method of the E&T programs. Fifty, support of organizational atmosphere variables have a different influence on the job transfer according to contents, design, conditions of the E&T programs.
Background: This study aims to investigate the perceptions of dentists and dental hygienists regarding quality dental job conditions and to identify differences in perceptions based on job type. Methods: As a result of conducting face-to-face and online surveys, data from a total of 132 people were analyzed. In order to investigate the perception of quality job conditions, the importance of a total of 13 items was investigated, and the work policies and job satisfaction of the current workplace were examined. Since the data did not follow a normal distribution, a non-parametric test, the Mann-Whitney U test, was performed. Results: Both dentists and dental hygienists perceived income and working hours to be of priority importance for quality job conditions. Dental hygienists valued holiday support and welfare, human relations, and personal development potential more than dentists (p<0.05). Looking at differences by job type, dental hygienists rated all conditions as more important than dentists except income, indicating a statistically significant difference (p<0.05). In terms of the work policies, 96.2% of the practices in the study were required to have the four types of social security contributions, but fewer had flexible working hours (19.7%), healthcare support (23.5%), and incentives (25.0%). Of the participants, 60.6% had parental leave available at their workplace, and dental hygienists had statistically significantly higher job satisfaction when parental leave was available (2.57 points) than when it was not (p<0.05). Conclusion: Quality dental jobs are an important factor in keeping workers happy and maintaining an efficient practice. Dental practice owners need to pay attention to the quality of jobs required by the dental workforce, provide flexible working hours and welfare programs such as parental leave, and create a workplace atmosphere and human resource management system that supports the use of these programs.
Purpose: This paper was attempted to focused on the analysis of job stress and job satisfaction according to the moderating effects of social support. Method: Data collected from 302 staff nurses in 2 general hospitals, with self-reporting questionnaires(Wolfgang's HPSI, modified Hagihara's social support, and MSQ). Descriptive statistics, Cronbach's alpha, Pearson correlation, ANOVA, and moderated regression analysis were used. Result: The subjects exhibited significantly highest level of 'the work and patients' conditions'. The perceived job stress was negatively correlated with supervisor and co-workers' support, and job satisfactions. Also supervisor and coworkers' support were positively correlated with job satisfactions. The main factor that affected the job satisfactions was 'work and patient conditions' and it was explained 35.5% out of the total variance of the job satisfactions with 'the work load and disturbing factor', 'supervisor support' and 'co-workers' support'. Supervisor support moderated the relationships between 'the patient care responsibilities and career development factor' and satisfaction. Conclusion: For developing the stress management program for hospital nurses, 'the work and patients' conditions', and the strategies of strengthening 'supervisor and co-workers' support' should be considered. In addition to, it may be considered to examine the effects of social support on the other criterion variables.
