Scaling is an important operation because of the iterative nature of arithmetic processes in digital signal processors (DSPs). In residue number system (RNS)-based DSPs, scaling represents a performance bottleneck based on the complexity of intermodulo operations. To design an efficient RNS scaler for special moduli sets, a body of literature has been dedicated to the study of the well-known moduli sets {2n - 1, 2n, 2n + 1} and {2n, 2n - 1, 2n+1 - 1}, and their extension in vertical or horizontal forms. In this study, we propose an efficient programmable RNS scaler for the arithmetic-friendly moduli set {2n+p, 2n - 1, 2n+1 - 1}. The proposed algorithm yields high speed and energy-efficient realization of an RNS programmable scaler based on the effective exploitation of the mixed-radix representation, parallelism, and a hardware sharing technique. Experimental results obtained for a 130 nm CMOS ASIC technology demonstrate the superiority of the proposed programmable scaler compared to the only available and highly effective hybrid programmable scaler for an identical moduli set. The proposed scaler provides 43.28% less power consumption, 33.27% faster execution, and 28.55% more area saving on average compared to the hybrid programmable scaler.

To assess the safety of nonlinear steel frame structures subjected to short duration dynamic loadings, especially seismic loading, a nonlinear time domain reliability analysis procedure is proposed in the context of the stochastic finite element concept. In the proposed algorithm, the finite element formulation is combined with concepts of the response surface method, the first order reliability method, and the iterative linear interpolation scheme. This leads to the stochastic finite element concept. Actual earthquake loading time-histories are used to excite structures, enabling a realistic representation of the loading conditions. The assumed stress-based finite element formulation is used to increase its efficiency. The algorithm also has the potential to evaluate the risk associated with any linear or nonlinear structure that can be represented by a finite element algorithm subjected to seismic loading or any short duration dynamic loading. The algorithm is explained with help of an example and verified using the Monte Carlo simulation technique.

Recently, the energy harvesting technology in which energy is collected from the wireless signal which is transmitted by mobile communication devices, has been considered as a novel way to improve the life time of wireless sensors by mitigating the lack of power supply problem. In this paper, we consider the optimal sensing time and power allocation problem for cognitive radio systems, where the energy efficiency of secondary user is maximized while the constraint are satisfied, using the optimization technique. Based on the derived optimal solutions, we also have proposed an iterative resource allocation algorithm in which the optimal power and sensing time allocation can be found without excessive computations. The simulation results confirm that the proposed scheme achieves the optimal performance and it outperforms the conventional resource allocation schemes in terms of energy efficiency while the constraints are guaranteed to be satisfied.

This paper describes color clustering method based on color difference in the uniform Munsell color space obtained from hue, saturation, and value. The proposed method operates in the uniform HSV color space which is approximated using ${L^*}{a^*}{b^*}$ coordinate system based on the RGB inputs. A clustering and color difference evaluation are proposed by thresholding NBS unit which is likely to Balinkin color difference equation. Region segmentation and isolation process are carried out ISO DATA algorithm which is a self iterative clustering technique. Through the clustering of 2 input images according to the threshold value, satisfactory results are obtained. So, in conclusion, it is possible to extract result of better region segmentation using human color perception of the objects.

Nonlinear flow characteristics of a hydrofoil running under the free surface are investigated based on potential flow theory using singularity distribution techniques. Following Hess & Smith's method[12], sources and vortices are distributed on the surface of the foil and Rankine sources are distributed at a distance above the undisturbed free surface to solve the nonlinear free surface waves(so called Raised Panel Method). Using the linearized Neumann-Kelvin solution, the conversed solutions which rigidly satisfy the nonlinear free surface condition is obtained through an iterative technique. It is validated that the nonlinear solutions are compared with Duncan's experimental results(NACA 0012, $\alpha=5^{\circ}$), showing good correlations with each other. At a very shallow submergence and a very high speed the converged solutions are obtained. As the speed increases higher, it is shown that the difference between the nonlinear and linear solutions are trivial. Finally, the effects of the camber and thickness on the nonlinear flow characteristics of the foil are investigated.

In this paper, we deal with the development of an optimal design program for a triple-band PTFA(Planar Inverted-F Antenna) of 433 MHz, 912 MHz and 2.45 GHz by using evolution strategy. Generally, the resonance frequency of the PIFA is determined by the width and length of a U-type slot used. However the resonance frequencies of the multiple U slots are varied by the mutual effect of the slots. Thus the optimal width and length of U-type slots are determined by using an optimal design program based on the evolution strategy. To achieve this, an interface program between a commercial EM analysis tool and the optimal design program is constructed for implementing the evolution strategy technique that seeks a global optimum of the objective function through the iterative design process consisting of variation and reproduction. The resonance frequencies of the triple-band PIFA yielded by the optimal design program are 430 MHz, 910.5 MHz and 2.458 GHz that show a good agreement to the design target values.
Geophysical methods applied to water seepage problem in earth-fill embankment attempt to detect and map the estimate of size and depth of the seepage path. Seepage zones generally produce lOW resistivity anomalies due to high saturation of water. Dipole-dipole resistivity surveying technique, which is actually a combined sounding-profiling procedure, was used to delineate the seepage path through this study. In this study, the finite difference methods to solve the electric potential distribution in 2 112 dimension, was adopted as the numerical scheme for the forward problem. Second order Marquart's method, one the iterative damped least square methods, was selected for the automatic inversion. The computer program was implemented in FORTRAN 77 for 1 6-bit personal computer. In this paper, we present a case history which illustrates the application of dipole-dipole resistivity method to the delineation of water flow in earth-fill structures. Also the automatic two-dimensional resistivity inversion was applied to a field data where the interpretive advantages of the program become evident.
Most civil engineering structures such as bridges, power plants, and offshore platforms are apt to suffer structural damages over their service lives caused by adverse loadings, such as earthquakes, wind and wave forces. Accumulation of structural damages over a long period of time might cause catastrophic structural failure. Therefore, a methodology for monitoring the structural integrity is essential for assuring the safety of the existing structures. A method for the damage assessment of structures by the second order inverse modal perturbation technique is presented in this paper. Perturbation equation consists of a matrix equation involving matrices of structural changes(stiffness and mass matrix changes) and matrices of modal property changes(natural frequency and mode shape changes). The damages of a structure are represented as changes in the stiffness matrix. In this study, a second order perturbation equation is formulated for the damage assessment of structures, and solved by an iterative procedure. The effectiveness of the proposed method has been investigated through a series of example analysis. The estimated results for the structural damage indicated that the present method yields resonable estimates for the structural changes.

Application of the Object-oriented Programming (OOP) method to the Finite Element Model (FEM) program has various strengths including the features of encapsulation, polymorphism and inheritance. However, this technique should be based upon a premise that the independency of the object method and data to be used is guaranteed. By attempting to apply the OOP to the FEM, existing researches go against the independency of the OOP which is an essential feature of the method. The reason is this: existing researches apply the OOP to modules in accordance with analysis procedures, although the data to be used is classified as an element unit in the FEM. Therefore, the required independency cannot be maintained as whole stiffness matrices and boundary conditions are combined together. Also, solutions are sought from analysis module after data is regrouped at the pre-processor, and their results are analyzed during the post-processor. As this is similar to a batch processing, it cannot use data at analysis, and recalculation should be done from the beginning if any condition is changed after the analysis is complete, which are limitations of the existing researches. This research implemented the Object-orientation of elements so that the three features of the OOP (i.e. encapsulation, polymorphism and inheritance) can be guaranteed and their independency maintained as a result. For this purpose, a model called 'Object-oriented Finite element Model ensuring the Independency of Elements (OFMIE)', which enables the analysis of targets through mutual data exchanges within instance, was developed. In conclusion, the required independency was achieved in the instance of the objected elements and the analysis results of previous conditions could be used for the analysis after changes. The number of repetitive calculations was reduced by 75 per cent through this gradual analysis processes.

The main objective of this study is systemization of the technique of ROC quantification and optimization of baseline design by applying CE principle to the acquisition process of a weapon system. QFD and TOA techniques can be employed to a good working example of the conceptual design of a future main battle tank. In this paper, Product Planning Phase, the first phase of four QFD phases, is deployed in terms of eight steps including customer requirements and final product control characteristics. TOA is carried out considering only combat weight. In order to perform combat weight analysis and performance TOA, Preliminary Configuration Synthesis Methodology is used. Preliminary Configuration Synthesis Methodology employs the method of least squares and described linear equations of weight interrelation equation for each component of tank. As a result of QFD based upon the ROC, it was cleared that armor piercing power, main armament, type of ammunition, cruising range, combat weight, armor protection, power loading, threat detection and cost are primary factors influencing design and that combat weight is the most dominant one. The results of TOA based on the combat weight constraint show that 5100 lb reduction was required to satisfy the ROC. The baseline design of a future main battle tank is illustrated with assumption that all phases of QFD are employed to development and production process of subsystems, components, and parts of main battle tank. TOA is applied in iterative process between initial baseline design and ROC. The detailed design of each component is illustrated for a future main battle tank.
