The main objective of this study is to understand the regeneration step of the PTSA(Pressure and thermal swing adsorption) process below the atmospheric pressure by rigorous dynamic simulation. This target process is to recover toluene using activated carbon as an adsorbent. To do this, the dynamic simulations for the regeneration step are performed at 360, 490, 590mmHg and at high temperature after the simulation of the adsorption step at latm and 298K. A mathematical model was developed to simulate the column dynamics of the adsorption systems. This model is based on non-equilibrium, non-isothermal and non-adiabatic conditions, and axial dispersion and heat conduction are also considered. Heat transfer resistances are considered in gas-solid, gas-column wall and column wall-outside air. The LDF(Linear Driving Force) approximation model describes the mass transfer rate between the gas and solid phase. This study shows that the recovery of toluene by PTSA is more preferable than that by general TSA.
Transient liquid phase (TLP) bonding is essential technology to repair micro-cracking on the airfoil of blades and vanes for gas turbines. Understanding of the characteristics of TLP bonding of the superalloys is necessary in the application of the technology for repairing these components. In this study, the focus was on investigating TLP bonding characteristics of ${\gamma}^{\prime}$ precipitation strengthened Ni based superalloy. TLP bonding was carried out with an amorphous filler metal in various bonding conditions, and the microstructural characterization was investigated through optical microscopy (OM) and electron probe micro-analysis (EPMA). The experimantal results explained clearly that bonding temperatures had critical effects on the TLP bonding behaviors, and that isothermal solidication of the joints made at higher temperatures than $1170^{\circ}C$ was controlled by Ti diffusion instead of B.

The rapid thermal response (RTR) molding is a novel process developed to raise the temperature of mold surface rapidly to the polymer melt temperature prior to the injection stage and then cool rapidly to the ejection temperature. The resulting filling process is achieved inside a hot mold cavity by prohibiting formation of frozen layer so as to enable thin wall injection molding without filing difficulty. The present work covers flow simulation of thin wall injection molding using the RTR molding process. In order to take into account the effects of thermal boundary conditions of the RTR mold, coupled analysis with transient heat transfer simulation is suggested and compared with conventional isothermal analysis. The proposed coupled simulation approach based on solid elements provides reliable thin wall flow estimation fur both the conventional molding and the RTR molding processes

The penalty method has been widely applied to analyses of incompressible fluid flow. However, we have not yet found any prior studies that employed penalty method to analyze compressible fluid flow. In this study, with an eye on the apparent similarity between the slight compressible formulation and the penalty formulation, we have proposed a modified approximate approach that can analyze compressible packing process using the penalty parameter, which is an improvement on an earlier formulation (KSME, 2004B). Based on the assumption of the isothermal flow, a set of reference solutions was obtained to verify the validity of the proposed scheme. Furthermore, we have applied the proposed scheme to the analysis of the packing process of different cases.
The hydrodynamic problem when the pressurized bag submerges partially into water and oscillates was formulated by Lee(1992), and the solution method was given, In his formulation, however, the compressilbility of air was neglected and the pressure inside the bag was assumed to be constant. In this paper, the formulation was done including the air compressibility and the wall to block fling around phenomenon. The compression process was assumed to be a isothermal process for a static problem, isentropic process for a dynamic problem. And the stability was analyzed for the static problem. Through the various numerical calculations, the forces and the shape of the bag were compared with those of a rigid body case, constant pressure case, and variable pressure case.
The crystallization kinetics of $Fe_{73.5}Si_{13.5}B_{9}Cu_{1}Nb_{3}$ amorphous alloy has been investigated using differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). The crystallization process had two stages, i.e. precipitation of the $\alpha$-Fe(Si) solid solution and the tetragonal borides. The isothermal transformation data of the amorphous alloy has been fitted successfully to the generalized Johnson-Mehl-Avrami equation. The mean time exponent, n, obtained is close to 2.5. The value of n=2.5 may be interpreted as being due to a diffusion-controlled transformation process with a constant nucleation rate, one likely transformation mode for the crystallization of metallic amorphous alloys. The activation energy of the overall crystallization process deduced from the time to 50% crystallization are about 81 kcal/mole. The value is of the same order as those estimated from viscous flow.
In this study, we developed a sensitive and specific reverse transcription loop-mediated isothermal amplification (RT-LAMP) assay for rapid visual detection of foot-and-mouth disease virus (FMDV) circulated in Korea. The RT-LAMP was completed in 40 min at $62^{\circ}C$ and the results of the assay were directly detected by naked eye without any detection process. The assay specifically amplified all 7 serotypes of FMDV RNAs but not amplified other viral and cellular nucleic acids. The sensitivity of the RT-LAMP was $10^2$, $10^3$ and $10^3TCID_{50}/mL$ for serotype O, A and Asia 1 FMDV, respectively, which was comparable to conventional reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) and relatively lower than that of real time quantitative RT-PCR (qRT-PCR). Clinical evaluation of the RT-LAMP using different serotypes of Korean and foreign FMDV strains showed a 100% (35/35) agreement with the results of the RT-PCR and qRT-PCR. These results indicated that RT-LAMP assay developed in this study could be a valuable diagnostic method for FMDV monitoring and surveillance.

The robotic arc welding is widely employed in the fabrication industry fer increasing productivity and enhancing product quality by its high processing speed, accuracy and repeatability. Basically, the bead geometry plays an important role in determining the mechanical properties of the weld. So that it is very important to select the process variables for obtaining optimal bead geometry. In this paper, the possibilities of the Infrared camera in sensing and control of the bead geometry in the automated welding process are presented. Both bead width and thermal images from infrared thermography are effected by process parameters. Bead width and isotherm radii can be expressed in terms of process parameters(welding current and welding speed) using mathematical equations obtained by empirical analysis using infrared camera. A linear relationship exists between the isothermal radii producted during the welding process and bead width.

A numerical analysis on the freeze coating process of a non-isothermal finite dimensional plate with a binary alloy is performed to investigate the growth and decay behavior of the solid and the mushy layer of the freeze coat and a complete procedure to calculate the process is obtained in this study. The continuously varying solid and mushy layers are immobilized by a coordinate transform and the resulting governing differential equations are solved by a finite difference technique. To account for the latent heat release and property change during solidification, proper phase change models are adopted. And the convection in the liquid melt is modeled as an appropriate heat transfer boundary condition at the liquid/mushy interface. The present results are compared with analytic solutions derived for the freeze coating of infinite dimensional plates and the discrepancy is found to be less than 0.5 percent in relative magnitude for all simulation cases. In addition the conservation of thermal energy is checked. The results show that the freeze coat grows proportional to the 1.2 square of axial position as predicted by analytic solutions ar first. But after the short period of initial growth, the growth rate of the freeze coat gradually decreases and finally the freeze coat starts to decay. The effects of various non-dimensional processing parameters on the behavior of freeze coat are also investigated.
Amorphization and crystallization behaviors of $Ti_{50}Cu_{50}Ni_{20}Al_{10}$ powders during high-energy ball milling and subsequent heat treatment were studied. Full amorphization obtained after milling for 30 h was confirmed by X-ray diffraction and transmission electron microscope. The morphology of powders prepared using different milling times was observed by field-emission scanning electron microscope. The powders developed a fine, layered, homogeneous structure with prolonged milling. The crystallization behavior showed that the glass transition, $T_g$, onset crystallization, $T_x$, and super cooled liquid range ${\Delta}T=T_x-T_g$ were 691,771 and 80 K, respectively. The isothermal transformation kinetics was analyzed by the John-Mehn-Avrami equation. The Avrami exponent was close to 2.5, which corresponds to the transformation process with a diffusion-controlled type at nearly constant nucleation rate. The activation energy of crystallization for the alloy in the isothermal annealing process calculated using an Arrhenius plot was 345 kJ/mol.
