Study on Flaking Resistance of Hot-dip Galvanizing Coating

  • For the issue of flaking of the hot-dip galvanizing coating during drawing, the microcosmic characteristics of the coatings have been analyzed and experiments have been done to investigate the influence of coating thickness, Al content and steel substrate strength on its flaking-resistance. The results show that the fact of flaking is that the coating partially flaked off at the position far away from interface of steel substrate and coating, and not entirely flaked off from steel substrate because of poor adhesion. The flaking-resistance of coating decreases with the increasing of coating thickness and steel substrate strength, and increases with the increasing of Al content in coating at the same experimental conditions.

  • Innovative SMC with low iron loss was made from iron powders with evaporated MgO insulation coating. The coating had greater heat-resistance than conventional phosphatic insulation coating, which enabled stress relieving annealing at higher temperature. Magnetic properties of toroidal samples (OD35mm,ID25mm, t5) were examined. The iron loss at 50Hz for Bm = 1.5T was lower 50% of conventional SMC and was almost the same with silicon iron laminations(t0.35). It became clear that MgO insulation coating has enough heat resistance and adhesiveness to powdersurface to obtain innovative SMC with low iron loss.

Effect of Different Seed Coating Materials on Seedling Establishment and Growth in Direct Seeded Rice under Puddled Wet Soil Condition (벼 무논직파재배의 종자 코팅소재별 발아 및 유묘생육 특성)

  • The research was conducted to determine a seed germination and seedling establishment of rice plant under seed coating materials such as iron, silicate, and phyllite and under covered with silicate and iron coated & silicate covered in the puddled wet hill seeding and wet line seeding methods. The seedling establishment was high in silicate and untreated control of 100%>phyllite coating of 91.5%>silicate coating of 88%>iron coating and silicate covered of 86%>silicate covered of 75.5% in the puddled wet hill seeding method, respectively. At 35days after treatment there was high in seedling height at silicate covered of 23.8cm>control of 23.6cm>silicate coating of 21.4cm>phyllite coating of 20.2cm>iron coating and silicate covered of 16.8cm>iron coating of 15.4cm. In puddle wet line seeding method rice seedling establishment was high at control and silicate covered of 100%>iron coating and silicate covered by 97.5%>phyllite coating by 94.8%>iron coating by 86%. Seedling height was high in silicate covered of 22.1cm>control of 21.2cm>silicate coating of 20.0cm>phyllite coating of 19.0cm>iron coating of 17.7cm>iron coating and silicate covered of 17.0cm, respectively.

  • Effect of tension coating on reducing iron losses of thin grain-oriented 3% Si-Fe steel sheets was investigated. Conventional grain-oriented electrical steel sheets have a forsterite coating layer and a tension coating layer in order to apply tensile stress to the rolling direction of the sheets. However the proposed coating method in this paper is to form only a tension coating layer on the both surfaces of the sheets. Iron losses with the tension coating were reduced by 8% under the condition of 1.7 T and 60 Hz. Consequently the proposed tension coating is applicable to $80{\mu}m$-thick 3% Si-Fe steel sheets.

Enhancing Yield and Nutritive Value of Forage for Livestock Feeding Through Corn Soybean Intercropping Strategy with Several Pre-sowing Soybean Seed Coatings

  • In attempt to avoid crop damage through wild bird's picking, this study was designed with aim to evaluate several pre-sowing soybean seed coatings for optimum yield in corn-soybean mixed forage. It was investigated under four cropping treatments, viz. 1) corn sole, 2) corn mixed with soybean without any coating, 3) corn with iron coated soybean and 4) corn with thiram coated soybean. Each treatment had three replicates and corn sole was control treatment. Pioneer (P1184) and crossbred ($PI483463{\times}Hutcheson$) seeds were used for corn and soybean, respectively. The trial was conducted under randomized block design from $5^{th}$ June to $23^{rd}$ September, 2015. Data were an alyzed through ANOVA technique using SAS9.1.3 software. Results depicted that survivability of soybean against wild birds damage was found better (p<0.05) in thiram coating which was higher than iron coating and control treatment but later on thiram coating had adverse effects on subsequent growth of soybean plants. Corn stalk height was decreased (p<0.05) in thiram coating, whereas corn ear height was reduced in iron coating treatment. Iron coating enhanced (p<0.05) height of soybean plant (p<0.05) better than that of thiram coating. Soybean seed coatings didn't influence dry matter yield and nutritive value in terms of total digestible nutrients yield in corn soybean mixed forage. Conclusively, although presowing thiram coating enhanced survivability of soybean plants against wild bird damage but had adverse effects on its subsequent growth. However, soybean seed coatings didn't influence yield and nutritive value of corn soybean intercropping forage.

  • Steel used for various industrial fields including ammunition is vulnerable to corrosion so surface treatments are required such as plating, painting and chemical conversion coating. Zinc phosphate, used for ammunition manufacturing, is used to stick the stable compound on the surface by chemical conversion of metal. The quality of phosphate coating depends on many factors such as total acidity and iron content. In this study, we studied the influence of total acidity and iron content on coating weight and corrosion resistance of phosphate coating. The surface structure of the coating becomes dense and corrosion resistance is improved with increasing iron content. However, total acidity influences only the thickness and phosphate coating weight. In conclusion, this study suggests the optimal range of total acidity and iron content to manufacture the ammunition.

A Study on the Influence of Ceramic Coating on Characteristics of Friction and Abrasion of Aluminum Alloy(7075 T6) Used in Mechanical Casting (세라믹 코팅이 기계 주조용 알루미늄합금(7075 T6)의 마찰ㆍ마모특성에 미치는 영향에 관한 연구)

  • This study deals with the influence of ceramic coating on characteristics of friction and abrasion of aluminum allot(7075 T6) used in mechanical casting. In this research, frictional wear characteristic of ceramic coating materials such as $A1_2O_3$, $Si_3N_4$, SiC was investigated using aluminum alloy(7075 T6) and stainless 403 cast iron under room temperature and normal air pressure. The coating layer was observed using SEM. The conclusions are as follows: 1) Friction coefficients of $A1_2O_3$, SiC and $Si_3N_4$ are obtained 0.63 0.56 and 0.54 respectively. 2) Abrasion resistance of stainless 403 cast iron with $Si_3N_4$ is the best among the ceramic coating materials. 3) Abrasion mechanism of aluminum alloy(7075 T6) coaled with ceramic material and stainless 403 cast iron is caused by brittle fracture. 4) Coating the ceramic material on the aluminum alloy(7075 T6) can effectively increase the antiwear, impact properties, and corrosion resistance.

Influence of Water Volume on Particle Characteristics of Iron Powder with Insulated Coating for a Compacted Magnetic Core

  • Seasonal changes have been recognized in particle characteristics and forming characteristics of iron powder with insulated coating for a compacted magnetic core because of its high hygroscopicity, due to its phosphate coating and resin binder additives. For this reason, particle characteristics and molding characteristics of the powder with diverse water absorbtivity have been studied. The result shows that the higher the volume of absorbed water, the worse the fluidity becomes, resulting in the reduction in both springback during the molding process and expansion reduction after the heat treatment. The requirement on dimension accuracy for the finished product can be satisfied with an additional drying process on the material powder, which contributes to maintain its water volume constant.

Flame Synthesis of Silica-Coated Iron Oxide Nanoparticles and Their Characterization

  • We have used the modified diffusion flame burner to synthesize silica coated iron oxide nanoparticles having enhanced superparamagnetic property. Silica-encapsulated iron oxide particles were directly observed using a high resolution transmission electron microscope. From the energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS) and zeta potential measurements, the iron oxide particles were found to be completely covered by a silica coating layer. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and X-ray diffraction (XRD) measurements revealed that the iron oxide core consists of ${\gamma}-Fe_2O_3$ rather than ${\alpha}-Fe_2O_3$. Our magnetization measurements support this conclusion. Biocompatibility test of the silica-coated iron oxide nanoparticles is also conducted using the protein adsorption onto the coated particle.

  • The interfacial structure of duplex treated AISI 4140 consisting of iron nitride and TiN layer was characterized by optical microscope, SEM and XRD. A black layer was formed from the decomposition of iron nitride during Ti ion bombardment. The black layer was characterized as an a-Fe phase transformed from the iron nitride by XRD. In order to identify the formation mechanism of the black layer, a thermal analysis of iron nitride undertaken by DSC method. As an iron nitride was mostly consisted of ${\gamma}$'-Fe$_4$N and $\varepsilon$-$Fe_3$N phase after plasma nitriding, in this study, a ${\gamma}$'$-Fe_4$N and $\varepsilon$-$Fe_3$N powders were separately prepared by the different processing conditions of gas nitriding of iron powder in the fluidized bed. From the DSC thermal analysis, the phase transformation of ${\gamma}$'$-Fe_4$N, $\varepsilon$-$Fe_3$N was followed the path of transformation; $ \Upsilon{'}-Fe_4$Nlongrightarrow${\gamma}$-Felongrightarrowa-Fe and of $\varepsilon$-$Fe_3$Nlongrightarrow$\varepsilon$-$Fe_{2.5}$ /N+${\gamma}$'$-Fe_4$Nlongrightarrow${\gamma}$'-Fe$_4$Nlongrightarrow${\gamma}$longrightarrowFelongrightarrowalongrightarrowFe, respectively. It explains the reason why the $\varepsilon$ $-Fe_3$N phase disappeared in the first time and then ${\gamma}$'-Fe$_4$N in the formation of the black layer in the duplex coating.
