  • The use of ZnO and stearic acid is very well known in sulfenamide accelerated sulfur vulcanization of diene elastomers. Zn-ion coated nano filler has been developed and tested, in styrene-butadiene rubber (SBR) as sulfur vulcanizing activator cum reinforcing filler. In this study Zinc oxide has been replaced by the Zn-ion coated nano silica filler with an aim to study the dual role of this nanofiller in SBR. The presence of Zn-ion on the nano silica filler surface activates the sulfur vulcanization by involving Zn++ in to the sulfurating complex formed with thiazole from sulfenamide. The increase of Zn-ion, on the nanofiller, decrease the scorch safety of the elastomer compound but increase the tensile strength, state of cure and tear strength and attain maximum at its 10% level. The presence of stearic acid increases the rate of vulcanization. Replacement of stearic acid with mono-stearate, however, increases the vulcanization rate but decrease the ultimate state of cure. A mechanistic scheme involving dual function of this nanofiller has been suggested.

  • The efficiency of decontamination of model spent ion exchange resins, contaminated with magnetite and hematite, with mineral acid solutions, and using electro-decontamination, was evaluated. It has been shown that effective hematite dissolution occurs in concentrated mineral acid solutions. However, the use of direct current increases the decontamination efficiency of spent ion exchange resins contaminated with hematite. It is determined that with increasing voltage and acid concentration, the dissolution efficiency of hematite deposits increases and can exceed 99%. It has been shown that hematite dissolution is accompanied by secondary adsorption of radionuclides due to ion exchange, which can be removed with sodium nitrate solutions.

  • In this study, lithium manganese oxide spinel ($LiMn_{1.9}Fe_{0.1}Nb_{0.0005}O_4$) as a cathode material of lithium ion secondary batteries is synthesized with spray drying, and in order to increase its crystallinity and electrochemical properties, the granulated $LiMn_{1.9}Fe_{0.1}Nb_{0.0005}O_4$ particle surface is coated with lithium titanium oxide spinel ($Li_4Ti_5O_{12}$) through a sol-gel method. The granulated particles present a higher tap density and lower specific surface area. The crystallinity and discharge capacity of the $Li_4Ti_5O_{12}$ coated material is relatively higher than uncoated material. With the coating layer, the discharge capacity and cycling stability are increased and the capacity fading is suppressed successfully.

  • In this study, the redox state of iron in sodium silicate glasses was varied by changing the melting conditions, such as the melting temperature and particle size of iron oxide. The oxidation states of the iron ion were determined by wet chemical analysis and UV-Vis spectroscopy methods. Iron commonly exists as an equilibrium mixture of ferrous ions, $Fe^{2+}$, and ferric ions $Fe^{3+}$. In this study, sodium silicate glasses containing nanoparticles of iron oxide (0.5% mol) were prepared at various temperatures. Increase of temperature led to the transformation of ferric ions to ferrous ions, and the intensity of the ferrous peak in 1050 nm increased. Nanoparticle iron oxide caused fewer ferrous ions to be formed and the $\frac{Fe^{2+}}{Fe^{3+}}$ equilibrium ratio compared to that with micro-oxide iron powder was lower.

  • Cobalt oxide has excellent various properties such as high catalytic activity, antiferromagnetism, and electrochromism. So cobalt oxides offer a great potential for their applications in the various areas such as optical gas sensor, catalysts for oxidation reaction, electrochromic devices, high temperature solar selective absorbers, magnetic materials, pigment for glasses and ceramics, and negative electrodes for lithium-ion batteries. We have synthesized novel cobalt complexes by simple reaction of cobalt bistrimethylsilylamide as a starting material with a lot of conventional ligands as potential cobalt oxide precursors. The studies include the facile preparation, structural characterization, and spectroscopic analysis of the new precursors. We are making efforts to grow cobalt oxide thin films using cobalt complexes newly synthesized in this study using deposition techniques.

  • We reported that high dielectric hafnium oxide nano-film deposited by thermal atomic layer deposition on the poly-silicon film (poly-Si). The poly -Si film was produced by plasma enhanced chemical vapor deposition and excimer laser annealing. We used the hafniu m chloride ($HfCl_4$) and water as the precursors and analyzed the hafnium oxide film by transmission electron microscope and secondary ion mass spectrometer. Hafnium oxide produced by the ALD method showed very good coverage on the rough surface of poly-Si film. While deposited with 200 cycles, these hafnium oxide films revealed a relatively smooth surface and good uniformity, but the cumulative roughness produced by the incomplete reaction was apparent when the amount of deposition cycle increased to 600 cycles.

  • For a stimulating neural electrode, the charge density should be as large as possible to provide adequate stimulation of the nervous system while allowing for miniaturization of the electrode. Since iridium oxide is able to produce high charge densities while preventing undesirable reactions due to charge storage, it has become a promising material for neural prostheses. Successful production of stable Ir and Ir oxide films on various substrates now limits the use of this material. Ir was deposited on two differently prepared surface of (mirror finish, passivation) surgical Ti-6AI-4V with several methods. Ion beam mixing of sputter deposited Ir films on passivated Ti-6AI-4V produced stable and good adherent Ir films. It was found that the increase in charge density of pure Ir on continuous cyclingis due to the accumulation of the oxide phase ( associated with a large surface area) in which the valence state of iridium changes and the double-layer capacitance increases. This study also showed that the double layer capacitance is equally or even more responsible for the high charge density of anodically formed Ir oxide.

  • STI(shallow trench isolation)-CMP(chemical mechanical polishing) process have been substituted for LOCOS(local oxidation of silicon) process to obtain global planarization in the below sub-0.5㎛ technology. However TI-CMP process, especially TI-CMP with RIE(reactive ion etching) etch back process, has some kinds of defect like nitride residue, torn oxide defect, etc. In this paper, we studied how to reduced torn oxide defects after STI-CMP with RIE etch back processed. Although torn oxide defects which can occur on trench area is not deep and not severe, torn oxide defects on moat area is not deep and not severe, torn oxide defects on moat area is sometimes very deep and makes the yield loss. Thus, we did test on pattern wafers which go through trench process, APECVD process, and RIE etch back process by using an IPEC 472 polisher, IC1000/SUVA4 PAD and KOH base slurry to reduce the number of torn defects and to study what is the origin of torn oxide defects.

  • The oxidation behavior of the crystallized $Al_{87}Ni_3Y_{10}$ alloy has been investigated with an aim to compare with that of the amorphous $Al_{87}Ni_3Y_{10}$ alloy. The oxidation at 873 K occurs as follows: (1) growth of an amorphous aluminum-yttrium oxide layer (~10 nm) after heating up to 873 K; and (2) formation of $YAlO_3$ crystalline oxide (~220 nm) after annealing for 30 hours at 873 K. Such an overall oxidation step indicates that the oxidation behavior in the crystallized $Al_{87}Ni_3Y_{10}$ alloy occurs in the same way as in the amorphous $Al_{87}Ni_3Y_{10}$ alloy. The simultaneous presence of aluminum and yttrium in the oxide layer significantly enhances the thermal stability of the amorphous structure in the oxide phase. Since the structure of aluminum-yttrium oxide is dense due to the large difference in ionic radius between aluminum and yttrium ions, the diffusion of oxygen ion through the amorphous oxide layer is limited thus stabilizing the amorphous structure of the oxide phase.

  • The oxide etching process was characterized in a magnetically enhanced reactive ion etching (MERIE) reactor with a $CHF_3CF_4$ gas chemistry. A statistical experimental design plus one center point was used to characterize relationships between process factors and etch response. The etch response modeled are etch rate, etch selectivity to TiN and uniformity. Etching uniformity was improved with increasing $CF_4$ flow ratio, increasing source power, and increasing pressure depending on source power. Characterization of via etching in $CHF_3CF_4$ MERIE using neural networks was successfully executed giving to highly valuable information about etching mechanism and optimum etching condition. It was found that etching uniformity was closely related to surface polymerization, DC bias, TiN and uniformity.
