Wild strain L-6 was subjected to combined mutagenesis, including UV irradiation, atmospheric and room temperature plasma, and ion beam implantation, to increase the yield of 1,3-dihydroxyacetone (DHA). With application of a high-throughput screening method, mutant Gluconobacter oxydans I-2-239 with a DHA productivity of 103.5 g/l in flask-shake fermentation was finally obtained with the starting glycerol concentration of 120 g/l, which was 115.7% higher than the wild strain. The cultivation time also decreased from 54 h to 36 h. Compared with the wild strain, a dramatic increase in enzyme activity was observed for the mutant strain, although the increase in biomass was limited. DNA and amino acid sequence alignment revealed 11 nucleotide substitutions and 10 amino acid substitutions between the sldAB of strains L-6 and I-2-239. Simulation of the 3-D structure and prediction of active site residues and PQQ binding site residues suggested that these mutations were mainly related to PQQ binding, which was speculated to be favorable for the catalyzing capacity of glycerol dehydrogenase. RT-qPCR assay indicated that the transcription levels of sldA and sldB in the mutant strain were respectively 4.8-fold and 5.4-fold higher than that in the wild strain, suggesting another possible reason for the increased DHA productivity of the mutant strain.

Buffer layers play an important role in the development of high critical current density coated conductor. $LaMnO_3$, $SrTiO_3$ and $BaZrO_3$ buffer layers were compatible with MgO surfaces and also provide a good template for growing high current density REBCO(RE=Rare earth) films. Systematic studies on the influences of pulsed laser deposition parameters (deposition temperature, deposition pressure, processing gas, laser energy density, etc.) on microstructure and texture properties of $LaMnO_3$, $SrTiO_3$ and $BaZrO_3$ films as buffer layer deposited on ion-beam assisted deposition MgO (IBAD_MgO) template by pulse laser deposition method, were carried out. These results will be presented together with the discussion on the possible use of this material in HTS coated conductor as buffer.
The IrMn based GMR-SV films with three different buffer layers were prepared on Corning glass by using ion beam deposition and DC magnetron sputtering method. The major and minor magnetoresistance curves for three different buffer layers beneath the structure of NiFe(15 nm)/CoFe(5 nm)/Cu(2.5 nm)/CoFe(5 nm)/NiFe(7 nm)/IrMn(10 nm)/Ta(5 nm) at room temperature have shown different magnetoresistance properties. When the samples were annealed at $250^{\circ}C$ in vacuum, the magnetoresistance ratio, the coercivity of pinned ferromagnetic layer, and the interlayer coupling field of free ferromagnetic layer were enhanced while the exchange bias coupling field did not show noticeable changes.

The PIGE (Proton Induced Gamma ray Emission) method was applied for the measurement of light elements Li ~ K. A test measurement has been performed for geological, biological, environmental and material samples by using a standard sample for each element. The measurement was performed for the two proton energies of 2.4 and 3.4 MeV, and 3.4 MeV was found to yield better result for multielemental analysis. The result shows a fair agreement within 15% for all elements with standard values. The detection limits of Li, B, F and Na are less than 100 ppm, while those of the other elements are from a few hundred ppm to a few percents.

$Bi_2Sr_2Ca_{n-1}Cu_nO_x$(n=0, 1, 2) thin films have been fabricated by co-deposition at an ultra-low growth rate using ion beam sputtering(IBS) method. The growth rates of the films was set in the region from 0.17 to 0.27 nm/min. MgO(100) was used as a substrate. In order to appreciate stable existing region of Bi 2212 phase with temperature and ozone pressure, the substrate temperature was between 655 and $820^{\circ}C$ and the highly condensed ozone gas pressure in vacuum chamber was varied between $2{\times}10^{-6}{\sim}4{\times}10^{-5}$ Torr. Bi 2212 phase appeared in the temperature range of 750 and $795^{\circ}C$ and single phase of Bi 2201 existed in the lower region than $785^{\circ}C$. Whereas, $PO_3$ dependance on structural formation was scarcely observed regardless of the pressure variation.
Oxide dispersion-strengthened materials W-1wt%Pr2O3 and W-1wt%La2O3 were synthesized by wet chemical method and spark plasma sintering. The field emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM) analysis, XRD and Vickers microhardness measurements were conducted to characterize the samples. The irradiations were carried out with a 5 keV helium ion beam to fluences up to 5.0 × 1021 ions/m2 under 600 ℃ using the low-energy ion irradiation system. Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) study was performed to investigate the microstructural evolution in W-1wt%Pr2O3 and W-1wt%La2O3. At 1.0 × 1020 He+/m2, the average loops size of the W-1wt%Pr2O3 was 4.3 nm, much lower than W-1wt% La2O3 of 8.5 nm. However, helium bubbles were not observed throughout in both doped W materials. The effects of pre-irradiation with 1.0 × 1021 He+/m2 on trapping of injected deuterium in doped W was studied by thermal desorption spectrometry (TDS) technique using quadrupole mass spectrometer. Compared with the samples without He+ pre-irradiation, deuterium (D) retention of doped W materials increased after He+ irradiation, whose retention was unsaturated at the damage level of 1.0 × 1022D2+/m2. The present results implied that irradiation effect of He+ ions must be taken into account to evaluate the deuterium retention in fusion material applications.
The region, near the edge of a radiation beam, where the dose changes rapidly according to the distance from the beam axis is known as the penumbra. There is a sharp dose gradient zone even in megavoltage photon beams due to source size, collimator, lead alloy block, other accessories, and internal scatter ray. We investigate dosimetric characteristics on penumbra regions of a standard collimator and compare to those of theoritical model for the optimal use of the system in radiotherapy. Peripheral dose distribution of 6 W Photon beams represents penumbral forming function as the depth. Also we have discussed that the peripheral dose distribution of clinical photon beams, differences between calculation dose use of emperical penumbral forming function and measurements in penumbral region. Predictions by emperical penumbral forming functions are compared with measurements in 3-dimensional water phantom and it is shown that the method is capable of reproduceing the measured peripheral dose values usually to within the statistical uncertainties of the data. The semiconductor detector and ion chamber were positioned at a dmax depth, 5cm depth, 10cm depth, and its specific ratio was determined using a scanning data. The effective penumbra, the distance from 80% to 20% isodose lines were analyzed as a function of the distance. The extent of penumbra will also expand with depth increase. Difference of measurement value and model functions value according to character of the detector show small error in dose distribution of the peripheral dose.
We have studied local magnetization reversal and magnetic properties induced by Laser annealing method in the strip-patterned Ta/NiFe/FeMn/Ta and Ta/NiFe/FeMn/NiFe/Ta multilayers fabricated by ion-beam deposition. The films were exposed to the emission of the DPSS (Diode Pumped Solid State, Nd:YAG) laser under 600 G. The laser beam intensity increased up to 440 mW. When the laser illuminated the patterned film with the power of above 200 m W, the intensity of MR peak located in +87 Oe shrunk. A new MR peak was generated at -63 Oe. When the laser power is 400 mW, the location of positive MR peak(H$\sub$ex/) was changed slightly from +87 Oe to +76 Oe, and the MR ratio was decreased from 0.9% to 0.1 %. On the other hand, the new (negative) MR peak shifted from -63 Oe to -80 Oe, with the MR ratio increased up to 0.3%. As the illuminated area expanded, the intensity of opposite MR peak increased and it of negative MR peak decreased. This proved that the local reversal of exchange biasing should be realized by laser annealing.

In this paper, we present a fabrication method of functionalized gold nanostructures on flexible substrate that can be implemented for plasmonic sensing application. For biomolecular sensing, many researchers exploit unconventional lithography method like nanoimprint lithography (NIP), contact transfer lithography, soft lithography, colloidal transfer printing due to its usability and easy to functionalization. In particular, nanoimprint and contact transfer lithography need to have anti-adhesion layer for distinctive metallic properties on the flexible substrates. However, when metallic thin film was deposited on the anti-adhesion layer coated substrates, we discover much aggravation of the mold by repetitive use. Thus it would be impossible to get a high quality of metal nanostructure on the transferred substrate for developing flexible electronics based transfer printing. Here we demonstrate a method for nano-pillar mold and transfer the controllable nanoparticle array on the flexible substrates without an anti-adhesion layer. Also functionalization of gold was investigated by the different length of thiol applied for effectively localized surface plasmonic resonance sensing. First, a focused ion beam (FIB) and ICP-RIE are used to fabricate the nanoscale pillar array. Then gold metal layer is deposited onto the patterned nanostructure. The metallic 130 nm and 250 nm nanodisk pattern are transferred onto flexible polymer substrate by bi-layer functionalized contact imprinting which can be tunable surface energy interfaces. Different thiol reagents such as Thioglycolic acid (98%), 3-Mercaptopropionic acid (99%), 11-Mercaptoundecanoic acid (95%) and 16-Mercaptohexadecanoic acid (90%) are used. Overcoming the repeatedly usage of the anti-adhesion layer mold which has less uniformity and not washable interface, contact printing method using bi-layer gold array are not only expedient access to fabrication but also have distinctive properties including anti-adhesion layer free, functionalized bottom of the gold nano disk, repeatedly replicate the pattern on the flexible substrate. As a result we demonstrate the feasibility of flexible plasmonic sensing interface and anticipate that the method can be extended to variable application including the portable bio sensor via mass production of stable nanostructure array and other nanophotonic application.
Ultra-low loss ZERODUR and fused silica mirrors were manufactured and their light scattering characteristics were investigated. For this purpose, ZERODUR and fused silica substrates were super-polished by the bowl feed method. The surface roughness were 0.292 ${\AA}$ and 0.326 ${\AA}$ in rms for ZERODUR and fused silica, respectively. To obtain the high reflectivity, 22 thin film layers of $SiO_2$ and $Ta_2O_5$ were deposited by Ion Beam Sputtering. The measured light scattering of ZERODUR and fused silica mirror were 30.9 ppm and 4.6 ppm, respectively. This shows that the substrate surface roughness is not the only parameter which determines the light scattering of the mirror. In order to investigate the mechanism for additional light scattering of the ZERODUR mirror, the surface roughness of the mirror was measured by AFM and was found to be 2.3 times higher than that of the fused silica mirror. It is believed that there is some mismatch at the interface between the substrate and the first thin film layer which leads to the increased mirror surface roughness. To clarify this, the contact angle measurements were performed by SEO 300A, based on the Giriflaco-Good-Fowkes-Young method. The fused silica substrates with 0.46 ${\AA}$ in its physical surface roughness shows lower contact angle than that of the ZERODUR substrate with 0.31 ${\AA}$. This indicates that the thin film surface roughness is determined by not only its surface roughness but also the surface energy of the substrate, which depends on the chemical composition or crystalline orientation of the materials. The surface energy of each substrate was calculated from a contact angle measurement, and it shows that the higher the surface energy of the substrate, the better the surface roughness of the thin film.
