  • Recently, a great deal of research is focused on the printed electronics. One of their mainly concerned products is printed RFID tag. RFID technology has attracted researchers and enterprises as a promising method for automatic identification, and they are expected to replace conventional bar codes in inventory tracking and management. The key to successful RFID technology lies in developing low-cost RFID tags and the first step in applying printing technology to RFID systems is to replace antennas that are conventionally produced by etching copper or aluminum. However, due to the printing quality variations, errors, and lower conductivity, the performance of the printed RFID antennas is lower than that of antennas manufactured by conventional etching methods. In this paper, the effect of variations in the printing conditions on the antenna performance is investigated. Three levels for each condition parameter is assumed and effect on the resonant frequency are examined experimentally based on orthogonal array. The most serious factor that affects the resonant frequency of the antenna is the non-uniformity of the edge and the resonant frequency is found to be lower as the non-uniformity increases.

  • Purpose: Various gastrointestinal factors may contribute to maladaptive behavior in children with autism spectrum disorders (ASD). To determine the association between maladaptive behavior in children with ASD and gastrointestinal symptoms such as severity, intestinal microbiota, inflammation, enterocyte damage, permeability and absorption of opioid peptides. Methods: This observational cross-sectional study compared children with ASD to healthy controls, aged 2-10 years. Maladaptive behavior was classified using the Approach Withdrawal Problems Composite subtest of the Pervasive Developmental Disorder Behavior Inventory. Dependent variables were gastrointestinal symptom severity index, fecal calprotectin, urinary D-lactate, urinary lactulose/mannitol excretion, urinary intestinal fatty acids binding protein (I-FABP) and urinary opioid peptide excretion. Results: We did not find a significant difference between children with ASD with severe or mild maladaptive behavior and control subjects for gastrointestinal symptoms, fecal calprotectin, urinary D-lactate, and lactulose/mannitol ratio. Urinary opioid peptide excretion was absent in all children. Children with ASD with severe maladaptive behavior showed significantly higher urinary I-FABP levels compared to those with mild maladaptive behavior (p=0.019) and controls (p=0.015). Conclusion: In our series, maladaptive behavior in ASD children was not associated with gastrointestinal symptoms, intestinal inflammation (no difference in calprotectin), microbiota (no difference in urinary D-lactate) and intestinal permeability (no difference in lactulose/manitol ratio). ASD children with severe maladaptive behavior have significantly more enterocyte damage (increased urinary I-FABP) than ASD children with mild maladaptive behavior and normal children.

  • Most national highways are paved with asphalt. Since increased traffic volume and high temperature have reduced the service life of pavements, modified asphalt pavements or stone mastic asphalt (SMA) have gradually been adopted. However, pavement engineers have difficulty to select pavement types due to lack of standard specifications for these new pavement types. In this study, service lives of general asphalt pavements based on traffic volume were analyzed using the inventory data of pavement management system (PMS) collected for last 10 years. The results showed 9.5 and 5.6 year average service lives for new constructed pavements and overlays, respectively. The traffic volumes for the design life of 10 years was presented based on confidence levels using service life distributions of current pavements. For the confidence level of 90%, 2,300 ESAL was obtained; 1,500 ESAL for the confidence level of 80%. This indicates that modified asphalt pavements should be considered for sections with the higher traffic volume.

  • Purpose: Temporomadibular disorders (TMDs) can result in chronic pain, which is often associated with psychological and sleep disturbance. Increased levels of psychological and sleep impairments are often related with poor treatment outcomes. The purpose of the present study was to evaluate clinical features, psychological profiles and the prevalence of clinical insomnia in TMD patients with chronic pain and to suggest an effective treatment approach. Methods: A total of 200 TMD patients who had visited the Pusan National University Hospital dental clinic for treatment of their pain were recruited from June 2018 through December 2019. TMD patients were classified into an acute (n=100) and chronic (n=100) group and compared the clinical symptoms. The primary diagnosis of TMD were categorized as TMD with joint pain group (TMD_J), TMD with muscle pain group (TMD_M) and TMD with joint-muscle mixed pain group (TMD_JM). Self- report measures of sleep quality and psychological profiles were evaluated via the Insomnia Severity Index (ISI) and the Korean Stress Response Inventory (SRI). Independent t-tests, Mann-Whitney U-tests, and chisquared test were used for the statistical analysis. Results: Chronic TMD patients showed higher pain intensity, as well as higher prevalence of related symptoms (headache, musculoskeletal pain) and myogenous pain. They also had significantly higher scores in all SRI parameters and a higher percentage of clinical insomnia than acute TMD patients. Conclusions: Based on the above results, psychological profiles and sleep quality assessments are necessary to provide essential data that will allow for improved treatment of chronic TMD patients.

  • Purpose : The purpose of this study was to identify and assess factors that may contribute to pain of patients undergoing implant surgery. Materials and Methods: A total of 24 patients who underwent implant surgery were included in the study. Each patient's anxiety was measured using Corah's dental anxiety score(DAS) and modified Spielberger's state-trait anxiety inventory(STAI) immediately after the operation. Also, level of pain was measured using visual analog scale(VAS) during the operation and 48 hours after the surgery. The effect of various factors, such as demographic variables, previous dental experiences and operation time were also analyzed. Results: Postoperative pain levels were relatively low than expected. However, DAS and STAI were high among patients, and it showed that patients had anxieties about implant surgery according to DAS and STAI values. The previous dental experience did not affect the pain level, but the duration of surgery and the presence of accompanied advanced surgery did. Conclusion: To reduce patient's pain, proper management of anxiety will be required and careful attention is needed when performing local infiltration.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the efficacy of art therapy to control fatigue in cancer patients during course of radiotherapy and its impact on quality of life (QoL). Materials and Methods: Fifty cancer patients receiving radiotherapy received weekly art therapy sessions using famous painting appreciation. Fatigue and QoL were assessed using the Brief Fatigue Inventory (BFI) Scale and the Functional Assessment of Chronic Illness Therapy-Fatigue (FACIT-F) at baseline before starting radiotherapy, every week for 4 weeks during radiotherapy, and at the end of radiotherapy. Mean changes of scores over time were analyzed using a generalized linear mixed model. Results: Of the 50 patients, 34 (68%) participated in 4 sessions of art therapy. Generalized linear mixed models testing for the effect of time on mean score changes showed no significant changes in scores from baseline for the BFI and FACIT-F. The mean BFI score and FACIT-F total score changed from 3.1 to 2.7 and from 110.7 to 109.2, respectively. Art therapy based on the appreciation of famous paintings led to increases in self-esteem by increasing self-realization and forming social relationships. Conclusion: Fatigue and QoL in cancer patients with art therapy do not deteriorate during a period of radiotherapy. Despite the single-arm small number of participants and pilot design, this study provides a strong initial demonstration that art therapy of appreciation for famous painting is worthy of further study for fatigue and QoL improvement. Further, it can play an important role in routine practice in cancer patients during radiotherapy.

  • Background: This study investigated the relationship between depressive symptoms and physical fitness, obesity indices, and vitamin D status in office workers. Methods: The subjects were 514 adults with more 30 years of experience as office workers in the city of Seoul. Lifestyle risk factors, obesity indices, physical fitness, and serum vitamin D levels were assessed with a standardized protocol. The Beck Depression Inventory (BDI) was used to assess depression status. Vitamin D status was assessed by measuring serum 25-hydroxyvitamin D concentrations. Based on the BDI scores, participants were classified into no depression (ND, $BDI{\leq}9$), mild depression (MiD, $10{\leq}BDI{\leq}15$), and moderate depression (MoD, $16{\leq}BDI{\leq}23$) groups. Results: Compared with the high cardiorespriatory fitness group, the low cardiorespiratory fitness (men OR=2.618, women OR=1.596) an middle cardiorespiratory fitness group (men OR=1.256, women OR=1.110) had significantly higher odds ratio for having depressive symptoms, even after adjustment for age, hypertension, diabetes, hyperlipidemia, cardiovascular disease, alcohol intake, smoking, body mass index (BMI), percent body fat (%BF), and waist circumference (WC). Compared with the insufficient or deficient vitamin D group , the sufficient vitamin D group had significantly lower odds ratios for having depressive symptoms (men OR=0.121, women OR=0.114), even after adjustment for age, hypertension, diabetes, hyperlipidemia, cardiovascular disease, alcohol intake, smoking, BMI, %BF, and WC. Conclusion: Vitamin D supplementation and outdoor activities should be key components of a lifestyle intervention against office workers' depression.
