A 8 kg, 3-year-old male West Highland white terrier dog with a 1.5-year history of chronic, severely pruritic, seborrheic skin disorder was referred to the Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital of the Tokyo University of Agriculture and Technology. On physical examination, lesions were observed on entire cutaneous surface, except for face, dorsum of body, and footpads. Skin lesions were characterized by diffuse erythema, erythematous papules, severe alopecia, hyperpigmentation, and lichenification. Tape strip tests of skin lesions revealed cocci and Malassezia infections. The intradermal allergy tests revealed positive reactions to Japanese cedar pollen, but the non-seasonal clinical signs were not compatible with atopic dermatitis caused by this pollen. Results of hematological examination, serum chemistry and thyroid gland profile were normal. Examination of skin biopsy exhibited hyperplastic superficial perivascular dermatosis with severe acanthosis, excessive keratinocyte mitoses, patchy or diffuse mild spongiosis, and lymphocytic exocytosis in epidermis. Perivascular to interstitial mononuclear cells infiltration was seen in the superficial dermis. Based on the results of examination described above, epidermal dysplasia was diagnosed. Treatments with administration of antibiotics, etretinate, and prednisolone orally combined with topical ketoconazole cream and antiseborreic shampoos had no good results. Following treatment with long-term oral itraconazole at 10 mg/kg daily and chlorhexidine shampoos was successful. However, when itraconazole therapy was stopped, the condition worsened twice within 2 or 3 months. Readministration of itraconazole produced improvement within 4 weeks. This dog has now been controlled periodical itraconazole therapy.

Eye irritation, primary skin irritation and skin sensitization tests for Aloewhite were tested in New Zealand White rabbits and Hartley guinea pig. In primary skin irritation test of male New Zealand White rabbits, body weights were not significantly changed and primary Irritation Index(PII) was 0.47, indicating Aloewhite as mildly irritating material, In ocular irritation test, any injury on iris, conjunctival membrane, and cornea in New Zealand White rabbits was not observed. No injuries of the ocular mucous membrane were also recorded. Skin sensitization was tested in guinea Peg after intradermal and epicutaneous induction and graded I with zero % sensitization rate. These results indicate that Aloewhite was not considered to be irritant in test organs of animals.

Although rare, antihistamines can cause adverse effects, including drug-induced eruptions or anaphylaxis. A 4-year-old child visited the pediatric department of a hospital for skin eruptions after administration of antihistamines, (e.g., ucerax [hydroxyzine] or leptizine [levocetirizine]), for cholinergic rashes; he did not have pruritus. Skin prick, intradermal, and drug provocation tests were performed to determine the relationship between the antihistamines and eruptions. Levocetirizine induced wheals in the skin prick test and a rash in the oral drug provocation test. In contrast, ketotifen induced no reaction in the skin prick test but showed a positive reaction in the oral provocation test. Our case report highlights that children can experience the same types of adverse reactions as seen in adults, and cross-reactivity between various antihistamines can occur.
This study was conducted to evaluate prevalence of intestinal helminthic infections and skin tests for Paragonimus and Clenorchis in tuberculosis (TB) patients in Korea. Stool examinations by formalin-ether technique and intradermal tests were carried out in 2 areas; Masan TB hospital and Kong-Ju TB hospital. 1, The positive rate of intestinal helminths of any kind was 51.7% among 329 patients in Masan hospital, but 18.1% among 215 patients in Kong-Ju hospital. 2.The infection rates of Trichocephalus trichiurus and Clenerchis sinensis were 20.7% and 17, 6% respectively in Masan hospital patients, but the infection rates of T. trichiurus and C. sinensis were 6.5% and 6.0% respectively in Kong-Ju hospital patients. 3. In skin tests, positive reactions to Paragonimus and Clonerchis antigens were 22.0% and 37.6% respectively in Masan hospital patients. On the contrary, Kong-Ju hospital patients showed the positive rates of 15.2% for Paragoftineus and 27.2% for Clonorchis respectively.
Iodinated contrast media (CM) can cause immediate and late reactions. We treated a patient with a recurrent generalized maculopapular rash and a fever that occurred within two days of exposure to iodinated CM, iopromide ($Ultravist^{(R)}$), for chest computed tomography. We performed skin testing including prick tests, intradermal tests, and patch tests. Our findings indicated a late skin reaction to $Ultravist^{(R)}$in addition to cross-reactions to other iodinated CM such as ioversol ($Optiray^{(R)}$), iohexol ($Iobrix^{(R)}$), and iobitridol ($Xenetix^{(R)}$). In this study, we report the case of a patient diagnosed with a late adverse reaction to $Ultravist^{(R)}$in addition to cross-reactions to other iodinated CM.
Objectives : Although the thermo-sensitivity test in Well points in 12 Meridians(井穴知熱感度測定法) has been used for several decades, it is still performed by a manual way, and lack in objectivity consequently. To make it more objective, accurate and convenient test, we have developed a novel system to test thermo-sensitivity in Well points. Methods : To enhance the blindness of the test, we made a shielded system which give heat to some fingers of subjects in random way. To perform the test in quantitative manner, we developed a fully automated, computer-controlled system composed of heating bulbs and response button array. Results : The developed system showed linearity in heating the finger phantom. It also gave acceptable but interesting features in pilot tests with several young adult subjects. Conclusions : By the developed system, we could improve objectivity and convenience of the thermo-sensitivity test in Well points.

Anaphylactic reactions to anesthetic drugs could potentially produce life-threatening immune-mediated crisis. Most published reports are associated with neuromuscular blockers and anaphylactic reactions to inhalation anesthetics are rare. A 25-year-old male patient with no significant medical history and no previous abnormal drug reaction was scheduled for orthognathic surgery under general anesthesia. After uneventful anesthetic induction and nasotracheal intubation, generalized urticaria and erythema were detected during the maintenance period with $O_2-N_2O$-enflurane. No severe changes of vital signs and no ventilation problem were accompanied. The operation was cancelled and the cutaneous lesions were faded away during the recovery with 100% $O_2$. The skin-prick and intradermal tests showed that he was hypersensitive to all halogenated inhalation anesthetics including enflurane and not to intravenous anesthetics and neuromuscular blockers. The re-operation was safely carried out under intravenous anesthesia with propofol-fentanyl-vecuronium. We report this case of intraoperative anaphylactic reaction to enflurane with literature review.
In this study, we evaluated the potential of 70% ethanol extract from Persicaria nepalensis (PNE) as a cosmetic ingredient by primary skin irritation, ocular irritation, and maximization tests for delayed hypersensitivity in New Zealand white rabbits and Hartley guinea pig. Skin safety study was performed to evaluate the potential toxicity of PNE using the primary irritation test. In the primary irritation test, 50% PNE was applied to the skin, and no adverse reactions such as erythema and edema were observed at the intact skin sites. Therefore, PNE was classified as a practically non-irritating material based on a primary irritation index of "0.0.". In the ocular irritation test, the 50% PNE applied did not show any adverse reactions in the different parts of rabbit eyes, including the cornea, iris, and conjunctiva. Thus, PNE was classified as a practically non-irritating material based on an acute ocular irritation index of "0.0.". Skin sensitization was tested by the Guinea Pig Maximization Test (GPMT) and Freund's Complete Adjuvant (FCA) using an intradermal injection of 10% PNE. Edema and erythema were not observed 24 and 48 h after the topical application of PNE in skin sensitization test, which exhibited a sensitization score of "0.0.". Therefore, it can be suggested that P. nepalensis could be used as potential candidates for cosmoceutical ingredients, without any major side effects.
Objectives : The aim was to study the effect of bee venom pharmacopuncture therapy with different concentration on rheumatoid arthritis rat model. Methods : We enforced a bee venom pharmacopuncture therapy with different concentration on rheumatoid arthritis rat model by the intradermal injection of chicken type II collagen emulsified. 14 days after the onset of the rheumatoid arthritis rat model, a fixed volume of bee venom was daily injected to ST-35 acupoint in the rat's knee joint for 2-3 weeks. The hind paw volume, arthritic index, arthritic flexion pain test, pain threshold, and serum analysis (CRP, $PGE_2$, ALT, AST) were analyzed, and the expression profiles of COX-2, c-fos, and substance-P at the dorsal horn region of the spinal cord and subchondral bone of the knee joint were also analyzed by using the immunohistochemistry. Results : After the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis rats with bee venom pharmacopuncture, the paw volume of edema of arthritic rats were almost restored to the level of normal group, and behavior tests were very effective. Also the evaluation on the blood serum analysis was remarkable. COX-2, c-fos, and substance-P positive cells in the immunohistological section of dorsal horn region of the spinal cord and subchondral bone of the knee joints were significantly decreased. also the bee venom pharmacopuncture was effective to alleviate their rheumatoid arthritic inflammation cytokine inhibition as regards to the behavior tests and joint histological appearance. Conclusions : Based on the results in this study, bee venom pharmacopuncture with concentrated treatment condition was very effective in low fixed quantity and progressive low increased quantity.

Bovine tuberculosis (bTB), caused primarily by Mycobacterium bovis, continues to exert an economic loss, even in countries with active control measures, and is one of zoonotic diseases enable to be transmitted to human. The control and eradication of bTB are mainly based on a test and slaughter policy and/or abattoir surveillance. Various factors including limitation of diagnostic tests have been considered as major constraints to eradication. Single intradermal test (SIT) is the official diagnostic test. New diagnostic methods are needed to be developed, because of limitations of the test. In the present study SIT was compared with single intradermal comparative cervical test (SICCT) and interferon (IFN)-${\gamma}$ assay. There was very low correlation between SIT and SICCT. However, high correlation was shown between SIT and IFN-${\gamma}$ assay while no correlation was observed between SICCT and IFN-${\gamma}$ assay. Therefore, our results suggest the possibility of replacement of SIT with IFN-${\gamma}$ assay for the diagnosis of bovine tuberculosis.
