The study aimed to investigate what high-school students recognize mathematics textbooks and how they use textbooks in their learning mathematics in and out-of mathematics classrooms. For this purpose, we developed a set of interview questions in order to unpack what high-school students thought about mathematics textbooks and how they intended to use the textbooks for their learning mathematics. Eleven high-school students participated in the interview; the interview lasted for about an hour for each student. The data from the interviews were analyzed. The findings from the data analysis suggested as follows: a) the students seemed to consider mathematics textbooks as crucial medium for a mathematics classroom material and thus, they were likely to obliged to use the textbooks for preparing for not only tests and examination conducted regularly in schools but college entrance examination conducted nationwide; b) however, the students appeared to use the textbooks in limited ways in which they looked into the textbooks to prepare for mid-term or final exam only, not for their understanding mathematical contents as a main resource; and c) the students seemed to realize that they rarely have had an opportunity to develop mathematical thinking capabilities and understand mathematical ideas conceptually through the mathematics textbooks.
This study is a qualitative study in which a focus group interview is applied to explore nursing students' perception of blended learning. 21 students in the 4th grade of nursing department were divided into 4 groups to collect data through interviews and content analysis was conducted. As a result of the study, it was categorized into four topics: 'Application and operation that are not thoroughly prepared', 'Loss of direction and departure from learning', 'One-way listening', and 'Convenience'. Students were satisfied with blended learning which is free from time and space constraints and repetitive, but felt inadequacy and unsatisfactoriness about quality of online contents, system, and preparation for applying blended learning. In order to apply blended learning in the future nursing classes, high-quality online content should be developed based on the effective design of online and offline classes considering the curriculum, and a systematic, administrative, financial, and institutional foundation to support online course should be prepared. In addition, a support system should be created to guide students' self-directed learning activities in online classes of blended learning.
This study was conducted to examine the usefulness of adding final probing step (step3) in dietary assessment by 24-hour recall method among Korean adults. One-hundred fifty five adults (37 males and 118 females) above 30 years of age who visited hospitals for health examination were recruited at three hospitals in Korea. One day dietary intake was obtained using 24-hour recall method from each subject. Dietary interview was conducted in 3 steps, (1) quick list of foods eaten during the previous day, (2) detailed information of all the foods eaten, (3) the final probing for any items forgotten. Items added at the step3 were identified and contributions of energy and nutrient intakes were calculated. The average duration of interview was 10.5 min, and time spent for each step was 4.12 minute for step 1, 5.62 minute for step 2, and 38 second for step 3. The average number of dishes reported by the subjects added at the step 3 was 2.2. (Males = 2.6, Females = 1.6) Frequently reported dishes in the step 3 were Beverage, Tea, alcohol (37.1%) and Fruits (31.8%). From mean total energy intake of 1,589 kcal (Men = 1,846 kcal, Women = 1,509 kcal), 179 kcal (11.3%) was added at the step 3. In the step 3, nutrient intakes increased significantly except retinol in total subjects and except retinol and cholesterol in males but all nutrients increased significantly in females. The final probing step can add significant information on intakes of foods and many nutrients with only about 38 seconds of interview time. Confirmation of the results with larger samples of different age groups is needed.

As the world gradually advances to an aging society, the quality of human life is valued. Among them, 'quality of sleep' is very closely related to quality of life. Recently, Korea expanded health insurance coverage for "sleep disorders". Particularly, as the number of sleep multiple tests and prescriptions for sleep aids has increased rapidly, much attention has been focused on the related medical service environment. Therefore, this study looked at an in-depth interview of 11 hospitals to see what treatment delivery system is being established when the government applies health insurance for 'sleep disorders'. In conclusion, the organizations with the most average number of sleep polyp tests per day were found to have more sleep polyp labs (hardware) and more full-time specialists. Also, the polysomnography lab (hardware) and the specialist's full-time status (software) did not necessarily result in a "positive pressure regulator prescription" that can solve "sleep apnea" caused by "sleep ailments". Rather, it was found that the number of days of sleep multiple laboratories (hardware), the number of full-time specialists (software) or the specialty majors (software) had a greater impact. In particular, the higher the specialist's full-time personnel (software) index (=6.000), the higher the sleep-inducing agent prescription rate(=1.000), and the lower the specialist's full-time personnel (software) index (=1.000), the higher the sleep-inducer's prescription rate(= 0.010) Was low. In addition, even if the professional full-time personnel(software) index was the same (=1.000), the hospital type was lower as it was closer to the public hospital(=0.067) and higher at the specialized hospital (= 0.933). In the case of university hospitals, when the full-time specialists (software) are in the same condition (= 1.000), the frequency of use of the sleep laboratory (=1.000) and the sleep test rate (= 1.000) were all the same.
The purpose of this study is to suggest methods to globalize Korean food and actual conditions of Korean restaurants in Brisbane and Sunny Bank, Australia. The period of the survey was from July 19 to Aug 13, 2010. As a analysis method, in-depth interviews were conducted and the result was suggested by general arrangement in cases that responses to the interview questions were considered overlapping or similar. The result of the study on methods to globalize Korean food is as follows. First, development and improvement of favorable cuisine for Australians is essential. Second, the government should lead the promotion of food supply and dishes. Third, personnel in the food industry not only need to be trained to communicate well but also have exposure to different cultures around the world. For the limit of the study, it was difficult to secure enough samples of the subjects for an in-depth interview due to lack of numbers of Korean restaurants. In future studies, research on new methods for the globalization of Korean food should be conducted by doing research on Korean restaurants in other areas of Australia.

The purpose of this study was investigated the perceptions and expectations of science gifted elementary students in the laboratory-based science learning. For the purpose of this study, semi-structured interviews were conducted with 20 science gifted elementary students in J city. The question of the interview is constructed with perception and expectation of science gifted elementary students in divided with 4steps of understanding of lesson object, planning experiment, performing experiment and drawing conclusion in laboratory-based science learning and an attitude for science. The interview is progressed per individual and all the content of the interview is recorded. The result of this research is as follows. The science gifted elementary students have a wish for building an assumption and expectation and planning an experiment with discussion more than following the textbook and teacher present. In the step of the experiment, they wanted general more discussion of their own activities rather than teacher's instruction and they wanted teacher's instruction and they wanted teacher's mediation conflicts within small groups and comments for students' experiment results. The science gifted elementary students wish to open a science lab, which man who likes science can go and come freely and to study with friends who have a same interest to make a theme. And from top to bottom they want to test autonomous and ask to salute like a representative experiment of teacher. And they ask to have a chance to test individually and want to see a movie related to an experiment before doing an experiment. Like this, it presents that the scientifically gifted elementary students want to do an experiment what they can, want to have a class which can plan and can do an experiment by themselves through discussion with the unit more than following explanation of a teacher and a textbook without condition.
This research aims to evaluate the effects and the shortcomings of strategies for teaching paraphrasing to foreign university students. For this study, the effects of teaching paraphrasing skills on student's academic writing was investigated through the assessment of pre- and post-test writing tasks and through a focus group interview. The teaching of paraphrasing was divided into 3 instructional sessions and the focus group interview was conducted at the end of the last session. After each instructional session three trained assessors evaluated the outcomes of pre and post task writings; the in-depth focus group interviews were conducted on seven of the students in order to define better positive effects as well as shortcomings. By comparing the scores of pre- and post-task assignments it is possible to affirm that there is a meaningful difference for overall scores; moreover, in an analysis conducted on each single sub-element of the paraphrasing skill, it emerged that except for "task completion", all other four elements of "structure", "understanding core content", "change of expression" and "academic expressions" showed a statistically significant improvement in performance. On the other hand, as a result of the focus group interview, it was possible to individuate as main shortcomings insufficient vocabulary knowledge, poor overall comprehension of the reference material, lack of practice and difficulty in connect sentences organically. It is possible to consider these elements as limiting factors in understanding the reference material and making correct citations by the students. Therefore, we suggest as supplementary instructional strategies a deeper attention to the difficulty level of the text, the introduction of devices to understand better the content of the reference material and an integrated practice of the paraphrasing skill.

In recently, attracting foreign students are very active in lots of universities of South Korea. According to trend, foreign students who are studying in Korea have increased steadily. The programs to support and help them for adaptation of the university and academic success are rising though, on account of language barrier, it seems not easy to adapt to those people who finished studying korean language training that roles incubator and entered their major. More over, to expect personal training for them by professors is also difficult because of short of educational or executive and bankroll support in reality. Therefore it became a social issue about managing foreign students of South Korea. This study aimed to analyse the difficulties of learning from chinese international student's view. For this, we analysed focus group interview which intended 16 chinese foreign students and the collected data through reflective journal record using Nvivo program. In the results of focus group interview, learning difficulties of chinese foreign students are itemized 4 sections of personal aspect, environmental aspect, educational contents' aspect and educational methodic aspect. It is subdivided 11 sections and identified of requirement for studying support corresponding each part of difficulties. This research finding will be able to expect to provide a suggestion to looking for options for learning support plan of chinese foreign students.

This qualitative analysis was conducted to analyze the effects of teeth and eating foods in the elderly on their subjective happiness based on a focus-group interview (FGI). The study subjects were 10 people over 65 years old who visited a social welfare center in D City and agreed to participate in the study. One group consisted of five members and FGIs were performed for about 40 minutes per group. Based on the study results, five topics were evaluated, status of teeth, methods of dental health control, inconvenience within mouth, eating foods, and eating foods and subjective happiness. The study subjects answered that they felt distressed and annoyed if they could only see, but not eat favorite foods and that this made them feel old. One respondent even mentioned it made them want to stop living. Based on the results of this study, it is necessary to develop customized dental health control programs by age, gender, income level, education level, and health status, and to build the specialists.

The purpose of this study is identify the awareness and opinion of school librarians and teacher-librarians on the school library maker space. To do this, we used a semi-structured questionnaire to interview and analyzed in-depth telephone interviews of 7 school library professionals qualitatively. The recognition of makerspaces, the necessity of transforming school libraries into makerspaces and maker education, preparations and difficulties of implementation were investigated through the interview. As the result of interview analysis, school library professionals recognized that school library makerspace is essential to fulfill the users needs and important to enhance the library services. Also, school library professionals felt that it is desirable for the school library to function as a center for the in-school maker education program. Other important issues of the makerspace in school library were also identified. The key findings of this study are expected to be used as a momentum to activate the maker education centering on the school library.
