  • To monitor all elements simultaneously of variance-covariance matrix Σ of several correlated quality characteristics under multivariate normal process Np($\underline{\mu}$, Σ), multivariate exponentially weighted moving average (EWMA) chart and cumulative sum (CUSUM) chart are considered and compared. Numerical performances of the considered variable sampling interval (VSI) charts are evaluated using average run length (ARL), average time to signal (ATS), average number of switches (ANSW) to signal, and the probability of switch Pr(switch) between two sampling interval d1 and d2 where d1 < d2. For small or moderate changes of Σ, the performances of multivariate EWMA chart is approximately equivalent to that of multivariate CUSUM chart.

  • Finite element methods have often been used for structural analyses of various mechanical problems. When finite element analyses are utilized to resolve mechanical systems, numerical uncertainties in the initial data such as structural parameters and loading conditions may result in uncertainties in the structural responses. Therefore the initial data have to be as accurate as possible in order to obtain reliable structural analysis results. The typical finite element method may not properly represent discrete systems when using uncertain data, since all input data of material properties and applied loads are defined by nominal values. An interval finite element analysis, which uses the interval arithmetic as introduced by Moore (1966) is proposed as a non-stochastic method in this study and serves a new numerical tool for evaluating the uncertainties of the initial data in structural analyses. According to this method, the element stiffness matrix includes interval terms of the lower and upper bounds of the structural parameters, and interval change functions are devised. Numerical uncertainties in the initial data are described as a tolerance error and tree graphs of uncertain data are constructed by numerical uncertainty combinations of each parameter. The structural responses calculated by all uncertainty cases can be easily estimated so that structural safety can be included in the design. Numerical applications of truss and frame structures demonstrate the efficiency of the present method with respect to numerical analyses of structural uncertainties.

  • In the present paper, the problem of stability analysis for linear systems with interval time-varying delays is considered. By introducing a new Lyapunov-Krasovskii functional, new stability criteria are derived in terms of linear matrix inequalities (LMIs). Two numerical examples are given to show the superiority of the proposed method.

  • Multivariate or clustered failure time data often occur in many medical, epidemiological, and socio-economic studies when survival data are collected from several research centers. If the data are periodically observed as in a longitudinal study, survival times are often subject to various types of interval-censoring, creating multivariate interval-censored data. Then, the event times of interest may be correlated among individuals who come from the same cluster. In this article, we propose a unified linear regression method for analyzing multivariate interval-censored data. We consider a semiparametric multivariate accelerated failure time model as a statistical analysis tool and develop a generalized Buckley-James method to make inferences by imputing interval-censored observations with their conditional mean values. Since the study population consists of several heterogeneous clusters, where the subjects in the same cluster may be related, we propose a generalized estimating equations approach to accommodate potential dependence in clusters. Our simulation results confirm that the proposed estimator is robust to misspecification of working covariance matrix and statistical efficiency can increase when the working covariance structure is close to the truth. The proposed method is applied to the dataset from a diabetic retinopathy study.

  • In this paper, a matrix game is considered in which the elements are represented as Z-numbers. The objective is to formalize the human capability for solving decision-making problems in uncertain situations. A ranking method of Z-numbers is proposed and used to define pure and mixed strategies. These strategies are then applied to find the optimal solution to the game problem with an induced pay off matrix using a min max, max min algorithm and the multi-section technique. Numerical examples are given in support of the proposed method.

  • It is known that the kneading matrix associated with a continuous piecewise monotone self-map of an interval contains crucial combinatorial information of the map and all its iterates, however for every iterate of such a map we can associate its kneading matrix. In this paper, we describe the relation between kneading matrices of maps and their iterates for a family of chaotic maps. We also give a new definition for the kneading matrix and describe the relationship between the corresponding determinant and the usual kneading determinant of such maps.

  • This paper presents new results on delay-dependent global exponential stability for uncertain linear systems with interval time-varying delay. Based on Lyapunov-Krasovskii functional approach, some novel delay-dependent stability criteria are derived in terms of linear matrix inequalities (LMIs) involving the minimum and maximum delay bounds. By using delay-partitioning method and the lower bound lemma, less conservative results are obtained with fewer decision variables than the existing ones. Numerical examples are given to illustrate the usefulness and effectiveness of the proposed method.

  • This paper considers the stability of linear systems having an interval time-varying delay using a switched system approach. The time-delay system is converted to the switched system equivalently, and then a stability criterion in the form of linear matrix inequality(LMI) is derived by using a parameter dependent Lyapunov-Krosovskii function(PD-LKF). In constructing a PD-LKF, the decomposition is employed for delay free intervals, and the reduction of conservatism is shown analytically as the number of decomposition increases. Finally, two well-known numerical examples are given to show the reduction of conservatism compared to the recent results.

  • This paper considers multi-agent systems with interval time-varying delays and switching interconnection topology. By construction of a suitable Lyapunov-Krasovskii's functional, new delay-dependent consensus control conditions for the systems are established in terms of LMIs (Linear Matrix Inequalities) which can be easily solved by various effective optimization algorithms. One numerical example is given to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed methods.
