  • Purpose : This study was to illuminate the main characteristics and limits of the feminine ethics of care when it applies to the nursing ethics, and suggested sufficient conditions of care ethics in nursing in order to actualize the autonomy for nurses. Method : This study inquired the relationship between the ethical trait of caring in nursing and Gilligan & Noddings's moral theory as feminine ethics in relation to supporting the nursing ethics. In contrast to traditional moral theories based on universal principles, Gilligan's moral theory emphasized the conscious of the interpersonal relationship on the basis of the empathy and the responsibility for the other's need in contextual situations, and Noddings developed her ethics based on mothering as a model for the caring relation, the moral feature of which was characterized as reciprocity, receptiveness and responsiveness. Result : The feminine ethics of care came to support nursing ethics considering the nterpersonal relationship and responsibility. However, it did not show a possible ideal of nursing ethics because it has some difficulties in actualizing the nurse's individual and professional autonomy in the health care system. Conclusion : Therefore, in order that ethics of care can be an ideal and universal nursing ethics, it should be studied in proper direction, that is, toward actualization of the autonomy of the universal ethical self in relation to the concern and responsibility for the other.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to explore the experience of fluid management in hemodialysis patients by describing how they manage fluid intake and what affects fluid management. Methods: Purposive sampling yielded 11 patients who have received hemodialysis for one year or longer in one general hospital. Data were collected through in-depth interviews and analysed using Giorgi's phenomenological method. Data collection and analysis were performed concurrently. Results: The findings regarding how hemodialysis patients manage fluid intake were classified into four constituents: 'recognizing the need for fluid control', 'observing the status of fluid accumulation', 'controlling fluid intake and output', 'getting used to fluid management'. The factors that affect fluid management of hemodialysis patients were revealed as 'willpower', 'change in the mindset', 'support system', and 'emotional state'. Conclusion: The study results show that hemodialysis patients manage fluid intake through food and exercise as well as interpersonal relationships. These findings suggest that strategies in the development of nursing interventions for hemodialysis patients should be directed at assisting them in familiarization with fluid management based on an understanding of their sociocultural contexts.

Method: The subjects for this study were 213 persons who the visited hospital with low back pain-related problems. Results: The higher the level of the health perception in chronic back pain patients was the higher the rate of the practice of health promoting behaviors (r=0.393, p<.001). The health perception T score was $50.00{\pm}10.00$. As for health promoting behaviors, the T score was $49.99{\pm}10.00$. The subscale of the highest mean score was interpersonal support $(2.96{\pm}0.64)$ and the subscale of the lowest mean score was exercise $(2.13{\pm}0.99)$. Conclusion: This study showed that chronic low back pain patients had a lower level of perception of their health, and their practice to improve their health was not enough. Therefore, nurses should educate and encourage chronic low back pain patients in proper exercises and correct posture to strengthen and maintain lumbar extension muscle power.

Validity of the questionnaire was tested using internal consistency, construct validity, and criterion-related validity. Results: Components of the questionnaire were in three domains; interpersonal characteristics, characteristics of coping, and intrapersonal characteristics. Factor analysis is showed five factors; positive self-understanding, self-reliance, resourcefulness, perception of positive family relationships, and intimacy. The questionnaire showed a high internal consistency. A significant positive correlation with the Numerical Rating Score and negative correlation with the Child Depression Inventory support the validity of the questionnaire. • This study aimed to verify the positive effects of forest activities for children from economically underprivileged households in local children's centers and the effect of such activities on the protective factors of their development. One hundred and eighty five children participated in the Forest Activities Program, which conducted over a total 8 sessions. Pre-post tests of the subjective well-being scale, DAS, multiple life satisfaction scale, ego-resilience scale were conducted and the children then made picture stories during the program itself. The results of the analysis of differences between pre-post tests were as follows: first, the negative emotions of participating children decreased significantly. Second, the school-satisfaction and self-satisfaction levels of the participating children increased. Third the participating children's positive perceptions of self and interpersonal relationships also increased through the forest activities. Finally, there were differences of the change types of picture stories that children created while they were participating in the program; and these divergences were related to the effectiveness of the program. These forest activities had positive effects upon the economically disadvantaged children who participated in this study. However, in order to increase the effects of such forest activities qualitatively, greater support for the active involvement of children is required.

  • This study investigated the job stress and job satisfaction of caregivers who work to substitute the care of family. The purpose was to improve the quality of elderly welfare services and maintain a healthy family. Data were collected from 239 caregivers working in long-term care facilities in Gwangyang in Jeonnam in October 2010. They were analyzed using the SPSS 18.0 program. The statistics used for analysis were correlation and regression. The results of this study are as follows. First, most of the subjects were women in their forties or fifties. Most of them worked to support their families and, on average, earned less than 1.5 million won. The relation of job stress and job satisfaction appeared negative. The stress of relationships, income, and the number of clients had significant effects on job satisfaction. First and foremost, these results mean that a reduction in the job stress of caregivers is essential to provide them. So it is suggested that wage increases and more professional education or interpersonal skills training should be provided and a standardized test to assess job stress and job satisfaction should be prepared to improve the quality of caregivers.
