외국인 대학생이 작성 중인 학술 보고서에 나타난 제(諸) 문제 (Procedural Problems in Academic Writing Faced by International Students)

  • This research analyzed procedural problems presented in academic writing faced by international students. The result of this research will serve as a basis for suggesting methods of developing a curriculum in Korean writing as a liberal arts education designed for international students. To analyze problems presented in academic writing by international students, the standard of assessment was divided into interaction, knowledge construction, and material quotation. Then, knowledge construction was divided into contents, structure, and expression, and the items were subdivided in each category. These categories of assessment correspond to the genre of academic writing and are different from the existing standard of assessment for academic writing. Applying these standards, this research analyzed 43 texts of academic writing in process for a final paper by international students in an class and presented problems in them. Furthermore, this paper aims to give detailed feedback that can help solve those problems.

An Analysis on Factors that Affect Academic Achievement in Globalized Environment

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study is to examine the factors affecting the academic achievement of international students in degree programs in global education environment. Based on exploratory research, this study proposed four factors and examined effects of academic factors on academic satisfaction, effects of social factors on social adjustment, effects of cultural factors on cultural adaption, effects of economic factors on financial stability, and effects of four factors on academic achievement of international students. Research design, data, and methodology: This study conducted online survey to collect the data and results provide importance to increase interactivity between international students and teachers and between international students and hosting country's students. Results: The results of this study found what variables affect four proposed factors, while academic satisfaction significantly affects academic achievement rather than other factors. Conclusions: The results show how to improve academic related variables is key for the success of academic achievement. Results of this study provide implications which aspects should be considered to increase overall academic achievement by managing and improving the quality of higher education in global setting. This study provides managerial and policy implications for enhanced academic achievement of international students in global context.

KAAS at 30 Years: Past, Present, and Future

  • The Korean Association of Arbitration Studies faces its 30th anniversary in 2020 since its foundation in 1991 and is being celebrated and congratulated across the communities in and out of the country. However, the association seems to be standing at crossroads between a negative and positive direction. As shown in the past KAAS pattern in its academic activities, the academic community tends to focus relatively more on domestic issues, expanding its domestic network rather than international network for the past years. KAAS needs to turn its face to see the other side of the world, stretching its hands to the people outside first. For this purpose, this paper suggests that KAAS should strengthen its cooperative capability through the international cooperation division. KAAS' past 30 years of accumulated know-how and its academic network will play critical roles i-n expanding its partners across the global academic community. This paper delivers special thanks to the institutions, including the LMAA, CAC, SIAC, HKIAC, RSPP/ACRU, IDAC, and LAMC who sent cooperative works and congratulatory messages to KAAS 30th anniversary despite the COVID-19 pandemic situation.

해외학술정보자원의 유통체계 개선에 관한 고찰 (A Study on the Improvement of the Distribution System for International Academic Information Resources in Korea)

  • 우리나라 대학도서관들은 수집하여 유통 중인 해외학술정보자원의 양적 증가와 구입예산의 급증으로 인해 경영상 어려움을 겪고 있는 실정이다. 이 연구에서는 이러한 대학도서관의 어려움을 타개하기 위해 해외전자정보자원을 중심으로, 첫째, 대학도서관의 장서 및 자료구입비 규모를 분석하고, 둘째, 국내 외 도서관컨소시엄 현황을 살펴보며, 셋째, 한국과학기술정보연구원의 KESLI 컨소시엄, 한국교육학술정보원의 ACE 컨소시엄, 한국대학도서관과 한국대학교육협의회가 추진하는 대교협 컨소시엄을 중심으로 국내 도서관 컨소시엄의 운영현안과 정비방향을 고찰하면서, 넷째, 이를 토대로 국내 대학도서관의 해외학술정보자원 수집 및 유통체계 개선방안을 마련하여 제시하고자 한다.

한국노년학회 40년간의 학술활동 분석: 노인정책의 변화와 세계노년학·노인의학회(IAGG) 학술동향을 중심으로 (Academic Activities of the Korean Gerontological Society for Four Decades: An Analysis Related to Trends in Aging Policy and Activities of the International Association of Gerontology and Geriatrics)

  • 본 연구의 목적은 한국노년학회의 40년간 주요 학술활동을 한국노인정책의 변화와 세계노년학 노인의학회(IAGG)의 학술동향에 맞춰 분석해 보고, 향후 노년학회의 학술발전 방향을 제시하는 것이다. 연구방법은 먼저 한국노년학회의 주요학술활동을 각 연도별 학술대회자료집과 문헌을 중심으로 개괄적으로 살펴본 후 한국노인정책의 변화를 통한 한국노년학회의 학술활동은 조선일보, 한겨레 신문검색과 한국언론진흥재단의 빅카인즈 검색을 통해 찾은 각 제도별 자료를 연도별로 비교하여 분석하였다. 다음으로 IAGG의 학술활동을 통한 한국노년학회의 학술활동은 학술대회 개최연도를 중심으로 국제기구의 노인관련 주요 아젠다를 포함하여 비교분석하였다. 분석결과 지난 40년간 한국노년학회는 다양한 학술활동을 국내외의 노인정책 변화에 민감하게 대응하면서 다학제적으로 혹은 국제적으로 활발하게 진행해 온 것으로 나타났다. 그럼에도 노년학회 구성원의 다양성 결여로 다루어지지 못했던 중요한 주제도 있었으며, 하나의 주제를 심도있게 지속적으로 논의하지 못했던 점도 지적될 수 있다. 향후 한국노년학회는 한국의 대표적 노인관련 학회로서 다학제적 학문적 특성을 살려 한국의 노인정책을 선도함은 물론 국제학회 및 기구들과의 연대를 통해 활발한 학술활동을 해 나가야 할 것이다.

Prediction of elementary school academic performance abilities for young children's academic abilities and preparation for learning, which the mothers and the teachers rated

  • This study was conducted by researchers to compare the differences between the ratings of mothers and teachers on young children's academic ability and learning ability, and to confirm their influence on elementary school academic performance ability. This study was conducted using data from the 7th year(2 014) and 10th year(2017) of the panel study on Korean children. The analysis data were individual basic background, academic ability, preparation for learning, and academic performance ability. 600 children were used for the study. We suggests that close interaction and cooperation between mother and teacher are necessary to support young children's academic ability and learning preparation.

대학도서관의 다국어 맞춤형 서비스가 중국인 유학생의 이용자 만족도에 미치는 영향 (The Effects of Customized Multilingual Services of Academic Libraries on the User Satisfaction of Chinese Students)

  • 대학도서관은 유학생들이 학습 자원을 얻는 가장 주요한 정보원에 속하므로 유학생들의 학업에 미치는 영향이 크다. 그러나 현재 대다수의 대학도서관은 영어를 제외한 다국어 지원 서비스를 적절히 제공하지 않기 때문에 영어가 모국어가 아닌 유학생들의 학업 수행을 어렵게 만들 수 있다. 따라서 본 연구는 대학도서관 서비스 중 다국어로 제공할 수 있는 서비스를 유학생 맞춤형 서비스로 정의하고, 이러한 맞춤형 서비스가 대학도서관 이용자 만족도에 미치는 영향을 살펴보고자 하였다. 더 나아가서, 본 연구는 유학생 맞춤형 서비스를 적절히 제공하고 있는 대학도서관의 유학생들과 그렇지 않은 대학도서관의 유학생들의 이용자 만족도를 비교하였다. 이를 위해 서로 다른 두 대학에 재학 중인 중국인 유학생을 대상으로 설문 조사하여 총 138부의 응답을 분석하였다. 본 연구는 유학생 맞춤형 서비스가 유학생의 대학도서관 이용 만족도에 영향을 미친다는 것을 발견하였다. 특히, 다국어 서비스의 지원은 안내 책자/표지판, 홈페이지를 통한 자료 접근 및 이용, 그리고 이용자 교육 등과 같은 서비스에 대한 만족도에 긍정적인 영향을 주었다. 본 연구의 결과는 대학도서관이 유학생들의 학업 활동을 효과적으로 지원하는 서비스에 대한 실질적 함의를 시사한다.

Future Development Strategies for East Asian Journal of Business Economics

  • Purpose: EAJBE is actively responding to changes in academic paradigms at domestic and abroad and is carrying out measures to maximize synergy effects between academic fields with the goal of being at the world level. This study aims to present a developmental strategy for EAJBE to grow into an academic journal with international public trust and prepare for future changes. Research design, data and methodology: This paper identifies the current status from the first issue of EAJBE to the present, and analyzes the overall development strategy and direction. Results: EAJBE continues to strengthen long-term investment for internationalization and activities to attract members of excellent scholars. Specifically, first of all, EAJBE aims to operate responsible academic journals, such as guaranteeing the long term of the president of the academic society, the chairman of the editorial board, and the editor-in-chief. EAJBE also focuses on expanding investment for internationalization from a long-term perspective. Finally, EAJBE actively strives for academic exchanges between scholars abroad and at home. Conclusions: EAJBE was indexed in the KCI of the Korea Research Foundation and currently operates a rigorous academic journal to be indexed in the SCOPUS. Already, EAJBE is doing its best to become a successful model for Korean academic journals. EAJBE's path forward will be the first one that no academic society has ever reached as the world's top academic journal.

A Study on the Impact Factors of Academic Achievement of University Students

  • We conducted a survey related to study methods to identify the factors that have an influence on the academic achievement of university students and analyzed the results of this survey for correlation with students' GPA, which represents academic achievement. Test preparation and effective study habits were found to be the most important factors in overall student achievement. However, when divided by grade, maintaining health and satisfaction with school life are the most important factors for sophomores. Rather, in grades 3 and 4, time spent maintaining health is negatively reflected in improving academic achievement. Divided into gender, male students review or daily academic effort is an important factor in academic achievement, but in the case of female students, there is no difference in relative academic achievement because the amount of review and academic effort are small. For students who have experienced military service, review and test preparation are important to academic achievement, but for students who have not experienced military service, review has no effect on relative academic achievement.

The Mediating Effect of Grit in the Relationship between Calling and Academic Achievement and Career Stress

  • In this paper, we show the career path of college students from the perspective of positive psychology. Specifically we conducted the study to investigate a role of grit in the relationship between college students' occupational calling and academic achievement and career stress. 151 college students participated in this study and they completed the Korean version of the Calling and Vocational Questionnaire, Grit Scale, and Career Stress Scale. To assess their academic achievement, participants agreed to obtain their GPA from online system. The results of this study showed that occupational calling had a positive correlation with academic achievement and negatively correlated with career stress. In addition, it was confirmed that grit mediated the relationship between calling and academic achievement and career stress. Based on these results, the positive effects of occupational calling of college students, implications of this study, and suggestions for future research are discussed.
