  • Drug rash with eosinophilia and systemic symptoms (DRESS) syndrome is a potentially life-threatening, medication-induced hypersensitivity reaction with long latency. It is characterized by fever, rash, leukocytosis with eosinophilia, atypical lymphocytosis, and internal organ involvement. The most common causes of DRESS syndrome are sulfonamides and anticonvulsants such as carbamazepine and lamotrigine. However, valproic acid and olanzapine could develop DRESS syndrome. We report a case of DRESS syndrome associated with valproic acid and olanzapine in a 41 years old male patient with bipolar disorder.

  • The Drosophila lymph gland is the hematopoietic organ in which stem-like progenitors proliferate and give rise to myeloid-type blood cells. Mechanisms involved in Drosophila hematopoiesis are well established and known to be conserved in the vertebrate system. Recent studies in Drosophila lymph gland have provided novel insights into how external and internal stresses integrate into blood progenitor maintenance mechanisms and the control of blood cell fate decision. In this review, I will introduce a developmental overview of the Drosophila hematopoietic system, and recent understandings of how the system uses developmental signals not only for hematopoiesis but also as sensors for stress and environmental changes to elicit necessary blood responses. • The Korean native goat has been extensively used in the experimental work. Compared to those experimental work employing the goat, reports on their diseases have been scarcely documented. In the present communication, authors reviewed the literatures pertaining to the diseases of the Korean native goat. Diseases of the respiratory system, the alimentary tract, the liver, the musculoskeletal system, the skin, the urogenital system, the nervous system, the eye, and the heart were reviewed. And then metabolic, toxic, and parasitic diseases were reviewed. Of those diseases reviewed, diseases of the heart and kidney, and metabolic and toxic diseases were wholly artificially-induced. Except the parasitic diseases, a considerable number of diseases of other organ systems were also artificially-induced. And the parasitic diseases reported were confined to the internal parasites. Authors feel that the known occurrence of diseases would help diagnose new disease in the goat.

  • Pulmonary mucormycosis is very rare but has a devastating opportunistic fungal infection in immunocompromised hosts. The infection usually occurs in patients with hematologic malignancy, chronic renal failure, diabetes mellitus, or in solid organ transplant recipients. We experienced a case of pulmonary mucormycosis associated with renal cadeveric allograft recipient who had uncontrolled diabetes mellitus. The patient was successfully treated by surgical resection with Amphotericin B therapy.

  • Objectives : The purpose of this study is to examine the hemodynamic characteristics of pulse point. Methods : The computational analysis algorithms of arterial tree system was derived. In order to investigate the effect of internal organ on the pulse point, the diameter of celiac artery was reduced by half. Results : The sensitivity of flow change at the Inyoung(Renying) is better than that of the Chongu(Cunkou). but the Inyoung was worse than the Chongu in the point of the left and right symmetry. The pressure changes at the Inyoung and the Chongu were in the similar range. Conclusions : It was found from the result that the Chongu shows the more symmetrical hemodynamic characteristics than the Inyoung.

  • Severe sepsis and septic shock is a life-threatening disease. It is combined with multi-organ failure. In the past decade, early goal directed therapy has been proposed as an effective treatment strategy for better outcome. Recent epidemiologic studies showed that the outcome of sepsis has been improved with the introduction of early goal directed therapy. However, it is unclear which elements of early goal directed therapy contributed to the better outcome. Recent prospective and randomized trials suggested that some elements of early goal directed therapy did not have any effect on the outcome benefit. In this paper, recent articles about early goal directed therapy will be reviewed and the effectiveness of individual elements of early goal directed therapy will be discussed.

  • Functional Electrical Stimulation(FES) cause paralysed muscles to contract in some clinical circumstances. Generally, FES has been thought of as a valuable tool in activating any skeletal muscle paralysed as a result of upper motor neuron damage. But, the function of cardiac and smooth muscle is also affected by upper motor neuron damage. Today, various applications of FES are investigated, including conditioning cardiovascular exercise, caugh and breathing assistant, improving bowel and bladder control, hand grasp, standing and walking etc. This review will focus on the literature reporting application of FES to control respiratory capabilities and internal organ function as well as increase muscular strength, hand grasp, standing and walking in patients with upper motor diseases.

  • The scuticociliate, a histophagous ciliate, is known to cause high cumulative mortalities in juvenile olive flounder Paralichthys olivaceus rearing in land-based tank facilities. This study examined effects of bath treatment of 3 chemical agents including formalin, hydrogen peroxide and sodium chloride. and freshwater against scnricociliates infected olive flounder. Although 100 ppm formalin and freshwater did not completeIy eliminale ue scuticociliates within the internal organ of fish, chemicals were effective to prevent scuticociliatosis from spreading. It confirms the efficacy of the chemical with treating the diseased fish for at least 4 consecutive days.

  • The present study was undertaken to determine the metabolic effect of various levels and kinds of fat in the diet. Body lipid metabolism at different period of rat's life was also studied by sacrificing rats and collecting samples initially, at second and fourth week of experimental period. Body weight, FER, PER were low in the group fed 30% fat diet. The weight of internal organ and epididymal fat pad was low in high fat diet group. The level of total serum cholesterol of rats in butter group showed higher than that of soybean oil group when the level of dietary fat content was same. The ratio of total cholesterol and total lipid in serum of rats in butter group appear to be higher than that of soybean oil group.

  • The fact that colloidal particulates of rdaiogold are mainly and effectively eliminated from the blood stream by phagocytic activity of Kupffer's cells of the liver has been successfully adopted to the diagnosis if certain liver diseases and the same principle has opened a new avenue to the study of the organ by obtaining scan. Indeed, the latter procedure has been widely used for the detection of space-occupying lesions of cirrhosis of the liver. Nevertheless problem of differential diagnosis of monochromatic "cold" areas or "mottling" of the internal structure on the scan limited the value of this diagnostic modality. The present investigation is aimed at improving intepretation of photoscan findings with the aid of blood clearance rate of the intravenously injected colloidal $^{198}Au$.
