A new blue light emitting anthracene derivative, 9,10-bis-(9',9'-diethyl-7'-t-butyl-fluoren-2'-yl)anthracene (BETF), has been designed and synthesized by a palladium catalyzed Suzuki cross-coupling. A theoretical calculation of the three-dimensional structure of BETF supports that it has a non coplanar structure and inhibited intermolecular interactions resulting in high luminescent efficiency and high color purity. BETF has good thermal stability with glass-transition temperature (Tg) of $131^{\circ}C$. The PL maximum of BETF in solution and film were 438 nm and 440 nm, respectively, showing pure blue emission. A multilayer device using BETF as emitting material exhibits maximum luminescence efficiency of 2.2 cd/A and a pure blue emission (Commission Internationale de L'Eclairage (CIE) coordinates of x = 0.15, y = 0.10).
We have investigated the photophysics of the acetone radical cation in the vacuum ultraviolet energy region by multiphoton ionization combined with time-of-flight mass spectrometry in a cluster beam. We have found that the loss of methyl radical from the acetone radical cations is remarkably suppressed at 10.5 eV when they are solvated by a few neutral acetone molecules. The cluster ion mass spectra obtained by nanosecond and picosecond laser pulses reveal that there are intermolecular processes, occurring in several tens of picoseconds, which are responsible for the survival of the acetone cations in clusters. This remarkable solvation effect on the yield of the methyl radical loss from the acetone cation can be rationalized by the intracluster vibrational energy redistribution and the self-catalyzed enolization which compete with the methyl radical loss process.
In this study, effect of transglutaminase (TGase) addition on physical, water barrier, optical and mechanical properties of mechanically deboned chicken meat protein (MDCM-P) films was investigated. When TGase was added to the films, the thickness increased, but the solubility decreased. Films treated with TGase exhibited higher water vapor permeability than control film (p<0.05). When TGase concentration increased, the $L^*$ values of films decreased, but $a^*$ and $b^*$ values increased. All films showed very good barrier properties against UV light. The highest tensile strength was obtained in MDCM-P films containing 3% TGase (p<0.05). The elongation at break values increased with the TGase concentration increasing from 1 to 3%, but decreased at higher enzyme concentration (p<0.05). The addition of TGase altered molecular organization and intermolecular interaction in the film matrix. TGase treated films showed smoother and ordered surface structure and homogeneous and compact microstructure. The results indicated that TGase use can be an effective approach in improving the solubility and mechanical properties of MDCM-P films.

Understanding adsorption behavior organic molecules at oxide surfaces is very important for the application of organic-inorganic hybrid materials. Recently, monoethanolamine (MEA) adsorbed on $TiO_2$ surface has received great interests because it can lower the work function of $TiO_2$ in photo-electronic devices such as OLED and solar cells. In this study, we investigated the role of surface defects in adsorption behaviors of MEA at the rutile $TiO_2$ (110) surface by combined study of scanning tunneling microscopy and density functional theory calculations. Our results revealed that oxygen vacancy is the most stable adsorption site for MEA on $TiO_2$ (110) surface at low coverage. As coverage increases, the oxygen vacancies are occupied with the molecules and MEA molecules start to adsorb at Ti rows at higher coverages. Our results show that the defects at oxide surfaces and the intermolecular interactions are important factors for determining stable adsorption structure of MEA at $TiO_2$ (110) surfaces.
The crystal structure of the potential active 2-amino-4-(4-hydroxy-3-methoxyphenyl)-7, 9-dimethyl-5-oxo-4, 5, 6, 7-tetrahydropyrano [2, 3-d] pyrazolo [3, 4-b] pyridine-3-carbonitrile ($C_{21}H_{22}N_5O_6S$) has been determined from single crystal X-ray diffraction data. In the title compound crystallizes in the monoclinic space group P-1 with unit cell dimension a=8.1201(9)${\AA}$, b=12.2684(4)${\AA}$ and c=12.387(2)${\AA}$ [${\alpha}=69.573^{\circ}$, ${\beta}=12.168^{\circ}$ and ${\gamma}=76.060^{\circ}$]. In the structure the pyrazole, pyridine and pyran are almost coplanar each other. The crystal packing is stabilized by intermolecular C-H...O and N-H... O hydrogen bond interaction.
By using Monte Carlo simulation method we developed a new molecular simulation software which can be used to predict the thermodynamic properties of organic compounds. Starting from molecular structure and intermolecular potential function, rigorous statistical mechanical principles give a probability distribution for the behavior of a system containing many molecules, which enables us to calculate macroscopic thermodynamic properties of the system. The software developed in this work, cheMC, is based on Windows platform providing with easy access. One can efficiently administrate simulations by using an intuitive interface equipped with visualization tool and chart generation. It is expected that molecular simulations supplement the equation of state approach and will play a more important role in the study of thermodynamic properties.
Glycoproteins and glycolipids play key roles in intracellular reactions between cells and their environments at the membrane surface. For better understanding of the nature of these events, it is necessary to know threedimensional structures of those carbohydrates, involved in them. Since carbohydrates contain many hydroxyl groups which can serve both as hydrogen bond donors and acceptors, hydrogen bond is an important factor stabilizing the structure of carbohydrate. DMSO is an aprotic solvent frequently used for the study of carbohydrates because it gives detailed insight into the intramolecular hydrogen bond network. In this study, conformational properties and the hydrogen bonds in $\beta$-lactose in DMSO are investigated by NMR spectroscopy and molecular dynamics simulations. NOEs, temperature coefficients, deuterium isotope effect, and molecular dynamics simulations proved that there is a strong intramolecular hydrogen bond between O3 and HO2' in $\beta$-lactose and also OH3 in $\beta$-lactose may form an intermolecular hydrogen bond with DMSO.

Coherent multidimensional vibrational spectroscopy is a new technique for establishing correlations between features in vibrational spectra that are caused by intra- and intermolecular interactions. These interactions cause cross-peaks between vibrational transitions that reflect the coupling. In this paper, we use Doubly Vibrationally Enhanced Infrared Spectroscopy (DOVE-IR) and DOVE-Raman processes to obtain coherent two dimensional vibrational spectra. The spectra are fitted to obtain the dephasing rates and third order susceptibilities $(χ^{(3)})$ for the nonlinear processes. We show that the DOVE $χ^{(3)}$ values are directly related to the molar absorptivities and Raman $χ^{(3)}$. We then use these relationships to obtain estimates for the $χ^{(3)}$ of the stimulated photon echo and $χ^{(5)}$ of the six wave mixing spectroscopies, respectively. We also predict the ratio of the cascaded four wave mixing signal to the six wave mixing signal.
A new method is introduced to build up organic/organic multilayer films composed of cationic poly(allylamine hydrochloride) (PAH) and negatively charged poly (sodium 4-styrenesulfonate) (PSS) using the spinning process. The adsorption process is governed by both the viscous force induced by fast solvent elimination and the electrostatic interaction between oppositely charged species. On the other hand, the centrifugal and air shear forces applied by the spinning process significantly enhances desorption of weakly bound polyelectrolyte chains and also induce the planarization of the adsorbed polyelectrolyte layer. The film thickness per bilayer adsorbed by the conventional dipping process and the spinning process was found to be about 4 ${\AA}$ and 24 ${\AA}$, respectively. The surface of the multilayer films prepared with the spinning process is quite homogeneous and smooth. Also, a new approach to create multilayer ultrathin films with well-defined micropatterns in a short process time is Introduced. To achieve such micropatterns with high line resolution in organic multilayer films, microfluidic channels were combined with the convective self-assembly process employing both hydrogen bonding and electrostatic intermolecular interactions. The channels were initially filled with polymer solution by capillary pressure and the residual solution was then removed by the .spinning process.
$\beta$-l, 3-glucans are well known to enhance the immune reactions, resulting in antitumor, antibacterial, antiviral, anticoagulatory and wound healing activities. $\beta$-1, 3-glucans have various activities depending on molecular weight, degree of branching, conformation, water-solubility and intermolecular association. However, the $\beta$-1, 3-glucans linked backbone structure is essential and $\beta$-D-glucopyranosyl units are required for immunopotentiating activities. In this study, we tested the immunophamacological activities of insoluble $\beta$-1, 3-glucan from Agrobacterium sp. R259 KCTC 10197BP and confirmed the following activities: (1) IFN-${\gamma}$ production in PBMCs in the presence or in the absence of PHA, LPS, IL-18, and IL-12; (2) the induction of various cytokines in the spleen and thymus; (3) the adjuvant effect on the antibody production; (4) the cytotoxic and antitumor effects on cell lines and ICR mice. These results strongly suggest that $\beta$-1, 3-glucan from Agrobacterium sp. R259 KCTC 10197BP possesses various immunopharmacologica1 activities.
