  • As the environmental pollution is intensified, the interest in the conservation and quality of global environment is also increasing. Interior design affects on environmental conservation as well as the quality of outdoor and indoor environment through all phases of interior design. Therefore, interior designers should do environment-friendly design. The purpose of this study was to examine the consciousness and application degree of environment-friendly interior design in actual project by interior designers. The study was conducted by a questionnaire survey. The subjects were 215 interior designers working in Seoul area. The major findings of this study were as follows: 1) The 33 representative elements of environment-friendly interior design were selected and categorized into 5 fields: resources and materials, energy savings, ecological environments, indoor environments, and space effectiveness. These would be useful to carry out environment-friendly interior design projects and related researches. 2) Many interior designers didn't understand what the environment-friendly interior design is correctly, even though they were interested in it. Therefore, the educational program of environment-friendly interior design should be developed. 3) Even though interior designers thought most elements of environment-friendly interior design very important, they didn't apply them well to actual projects. This implies that alternatives for activating them are needed.

  • The purpose of this study is to demonstrate the relationship between the results of the analysis of the overseas railroad station buildings, which was conducted using the factors of environmental cognition for the purpose of designing an interior environment for the Incheon International Airport Railroad station that will be newly constructed, and the plan that could be applied to the design of interior environment for the airport railroad station. The station with a complex interior space layout and relatively larger space tends to be difficult to predict or forecast passenger's needs or recognition element in approaching stage of intoner environment design since the human's biological memory system is greatly affected by such factors. Cognitive approach at empirical standpoint would possibly create the design, of which elements will Implement the functions of their own as such approach enables necessary information to be structured in a systematical way and manner In implementing interior environment design for such stations to be built for the first time in Korea, behavioral approach based on systematic theory proved to be very crucial. Under such a background, the study was aimed at extracting the assessment elements for interior environment design, then setting the frame of cognitive approach to eventually propose the guideline in approaching to interior environment design.

  • The concern and recognition of the energy, environment, conservation of natural resources of the world today are raising, and sustainable development can't be considered in a way of separating development from environment any more. For sustainable development, a new educational infrastructure construction and paradigm coping with new environment through the whole education are needed. Accordingly, this research analyzed eco-friendly design curriculum among interior design major of 4year universities to help with reestablishing educational goal as a model for eco-friendly design curriculum development. According to this research, environment related subject were 91, the rate of 16.4% among total 1492 interior designs major, and among them, eco-friendly design related subjects were 15, which is the 6.4% of 91 environment related subjects, and which is 1.0% among total interior designs, through which we could see that eco-friendly design related subjects were very light weight in the total interior designs. So, the reasonable and concrete reform of eco-friendly design related subjects in 4year universities interior design curriculum seems to be urgent, and diverse eco-friendly design related subjects needed to be developed and established.

With a literature survey and design guide lines concerning sustainable design elements, three hierarchical categorization levels of human, environment, energy and resources systems that consists of upper, middle, low design elements have been proposed. A total of 6 items have been suggested for middle level of categorization and 24 items for lower level. Finally a total of 107 design elements concerning the 24 items and their relationahips have been revealed. The needs for a systematic approach to interior environmental design for sustainability have been discussed.

The available range of suitable materials for interior use appears to be almost inexhaustible in this day and age. Now a day, relatively new fields of study on environmental-friendly interior examine humans'innate affinity for health and explore its implications for architecture and the built environment. A growing field of research suggests that spaces' relationship to aesthetics and environment can either help or hinder their occupants' health and wellness, productivity, and even their creativity. This paper presents several examples of already built apartment houses in practice, and discusses the demand of users of the spaces for health and sustainable environment, deepening the relationship between newly-constructed spaces and the remodeled ones. The considerations to some new and contemporary materials from the aspect of healthy indoor architecture design are presented in this paper. Designers need to rethink the conventional and high-tech interior environment in apartment houses with respect to perceived air quality, material emissions, and odors. The future of interior design is oriented on light shapeable materials which are able to create a unique memorable atmosphere. The primary assignment in accepting recent materials and proceedings is our responsibility to creating proposals, that are mainly safe, hygienic and environmentally proper.
