  • This study explores the relationship between childhood abuse experiences and subsequent mental disorders in adults, with a particular focus on the moderating role of spiritual well-being. Using self-reported data from 210 graduate students in the Daejeon and Chungcheong regions, the findings demonstrate that spiritual well-being significantly moderate how childhood abuse impacts adult mental health. Specifically, individuals with lower levels of spiritual well-being experience a greater exacerbation of metnal disorders related to past abuse, while those with higher levels show a buffering effect. These results suggest that enhancing spiritual well-being could be a vital component of therapeutic interventions aimed at preventing mental disorders in adults who have experienced childhood abuse. We highlight the potential benefits of incorporating spiritual well-being into mental health strategies and call for additional research to substantiate these findings across broader populations. This unique contribution underscores the importance of considering spiritual factors int the therpeutic process, offering a new and valuable perspective in the field of mental health research.

  • Tatami serves as a multi-functional flooring and furniture material in traditional Japanese houses, and Westerners use it with suitable arrangements. Some choose to sleep on tatami for health reasons, while others adopt the lifestyle of 'floor living' to solve the spatial problems in cities. In any case, people use tatami for practical reasons rather than due to a cultural preference. I surveyed 750 respondents, including 463 non-Japanese people, and conducted both quantitative and qualitative analysis. I also interviewed European vendors and users of tatami during 2022-2023. The results showed that non-Japanese customers, especially Europeans, wanted authentic tatami mats made of natural materials such as igusa and rice straw to ensure health and sustainability. On the other hand, Japan's tatami industry is shifting towards artificial, or alternative, tatami-like mats. Few authentic tatami rooms exist in Japanese homes nowadays, and producers of tatami materials are almost extinct in Japan. Chinese farmers who supply almost 80% of igusa to the Japanese market may also discontinue their trade because the production is time-consuming and yields low profit. This paper discusses the possibilities of continuously producing and selling tatami in and outside Japan.

  • The purpose of this article is to capture this situation within the changes that take place due to it, inside the Greek society where there is a great need for professional social workers who are able to work targeted and effectively with foreigners, both children and adults, who have or develop mental health problems for the very first time. Over the recent decades the increasing number of migration flows has exerted and continues to exert great pressure on the health system and on the welfare structures of Greece. The bases for the development of a rudimentary reception and integration system that still is in progress have been delayed, while there has been no happy medium, between the enormous pressure that foreigner users of this system put on, and the humanitarian obligation of a well-governed state towards all residents of the country. Straight through everyday clinical practice in the field of intercultural work, social work has the knowledge and techniques for a total management of emerging problems and at the same time provides a value system with an ethical background which approaches refugees and migrants in order to provide quality services, mostly to users of mental health services.
