  • A method of adaptive formation of the synthetic discriminant function(SDF) both in image plane and spatial frequency plane by using the Widrow-Hoff learning rule is proposed. The proposed method uses minimum number of interconnections between neurons so it can reduce the time for learning the neural net. Also complex valued interconnection weights are introduced for the purposes of handling the phase objects or Fourier transformed spatial frequency objects which usually have complex values for the representation of not only amplitude but also phase information. Also methods of optical implementation for the complex valued interconnection weights are discussed.

  • Recently, the collection of the sensor data and its analysis become important as the smart buildings equipped with the various sensors appear as a usual scene. The interconnection through the wire cable among the sensors is indispensible because of the information collections such as the temperature, the humidity, and the luminance in the rooms and the hallways for the effective management of the in-building energies. However, these interconnections through the cabling will be very costly, time-consuming, and a difficult task since they will cause some damages to the buildings. Therefore, the interconnections through the unwired connections are required in terms of the deployment effectiveness such as time and cost In this paper, the design and the operation appropriateness are confirmed through the simulation of the signal measurement system for in-building propagation characteristics based on signature sequence and the analysis of the collected measurement data is performed thereafter.

  • In this paper, we propose a new multi-way circuit partitioning system that partition large circuits to progrmmable circuit board which consist of FPGAs and interconnect components. Here the routing topology among the chips are predetermined and the number of available interconnections are fixed. Since the given constraints are difficult to be satisfied by the previous partition method, we suggest a new multi-way partition method by target restriction that considers all the constraints for the given board. To speed up, we construct a multi-level cluster tree for hierarchical partitioning. Experimental results for several benchmarks show that the our partition method partition them by satisfying all the given constraints and it used up to 10 % fewer interconnections among the chips than the previous K-way partition method.

  • Usually, the output characteristics of a photovoltaic (PV) array are significantly affected by non-uniform irradiance which is caused by ambient obstacles, clouds, orientations, tilts, etc. Some local maximum power points (LMPP) in the current-voltage (I-V) curves of a PV array can result in power losses of the array. However, the output power at the global maximum power point (GMPP) is different in different interconnection schemes in a PV array. Therefore, based on the theoretical analysis and mathematical derivation of different topological structures of a PV array, this paper investigated the output characteristics of dual series PV arrays with different interconnections. The proposed mathematical models were also validated by experimental results. Finally, this paper also concluded that in terms of performance, the total cross tied (TCT) interconnection was not always the optimal structure, especially in a dual series PV array. When one of the PV modules was severely mismatched, the TCT worked worse than the series parallel (SP) structure. This research can provide guidance for switching the interconnection to gain the greatest energy yield in a changeable- structure PV system.

  • Electroless deposition(ELD) was applied to fabricate Cu interconnections on a TaN diffusion barrier with Pd seed layer. The Pd seed layer was obtained by self-assembled monolayer method(SAM) with PDDA and PSS as surfactants. We were able to obtain about 10nm Pd nano particles as seeds for electroless Cu deposition and the density of Pd seeds was much higher than that of Pd seeds fabricated by conventional Pd sensitization-activation method. Also we were able to obtain finer Cu interconnections by ELD. Therefore we concluded that the Pd seed layer by SAM was able to be applied to form Cu interconnection by ELD for under 30nm feature.

  • Recently, mobile devices support multi-functions such as 3D game, wireless internet, moving pictures, DMB, GPS, and PMP. Bigger size of display device is indispensable to support these functions and higher speed of the interface is needed. However, conventional parallel interfaces between processor and display nodule are not competent enough for that high speed transfers. High-speed serial interface is beginning to appear as an alternative for parallel interface. The advantages of the serial interface are high bandwidth, small number of interconnections, low-power consumption, and good quality of electro-magnetic interference. In this paper, we implement serial interface and use it for a display module. LVDS is used for PHY layer and a defined packet is used for link layer. The feature of the implemented serial interface is the reduced number of interconnections with enough bandwidth.

  • Metal interconnections of multilayer Al/Ni and TiW/seed-Ni/Ni were formed on glass, and the adhesion strength and nanoindentation response of the composite layers were evaluated. The Al/Ni multilayer was formed by an anodic bonding of glass to Al and subsequent electroless plating of Ni, while the TiW/Ni multilayer was fabricated by sputter deposition of TiW and seed-Ni onto glass and electroless plating of Ni. Because of the diffusion of aluminum into glass during the anodic bonding, anodically bonded glass/Al joint exhibited greater interfacial strength than the sputtered glass/TiW one. The Al/Ni on glass also showed excellent resistance against delamination by bending deformation compared to the TiW/seed-Ni/Ni on glass. From the nanoindentation experiment of each metal layer on glass, it was found that the aluminum layer had extremely low hardness and elastic modulus similar to the glass substrate and played a beneficial role in the delamination resistance by lessening stress intensification at the joint. The indentation data of the multilayers also supported superior joint reliability of the Al/Ni to glass compared to that of the TiW/seed-Ni/Ni to glass.

  • The projections from the dorsal raphe (DR) to the locus coeruleus (LC) or vice versa were analyzed in the rat using an anterograde tracer, Phaseolus vulgaris leucoagglutinin (PHA-L) combined with serotonin (5-hydroxytryptamine, 5-HT) or dopamine-beta-hydroxylase (DBH) immunostaining. Following the injection of PHA-L into the middle DR, DR-originating fibers with varicosities have contacted DBH-immunolabeled cells in the rostral, middle, and caudal LC. Axon terminals were also observed in the subcoeruleus nucleus. When the PHA-L injection was confined within the caudal DR, axonal fibers with varicosities were observed mainly at the rostral pole of the LC. Following the injection of PHA-L into the caudal, principal LC, labeled fibers with varicosities have contacted 5-HT-immunolabeled neurons at dorsomedial, ventromedial, lateral wing, and caudal sub-divisions of the DR. The present anterograde study suggests that the DR or the LC nuclei communicate with each other in order to perform a variety of functions including vigilance, analgesia, and stress responses.

  • Unmanned helicopter has several abilities such as vertical take off, hovering, low speed flight at a specific altitude. Such vehicles are becoming popular in actual applications such as search and rescue, aerial reconnaissance and surveillance in the case of a large size disaster and forest fire. In this paper, a flight control system was designed for an unmanned helicopter. This paper was concentrated on describing the systematic design, electronic equipments and their interconnections for realizing the autonomous flight and aerial monitoring. A study on the autonomous waypoint navigation and altitude control performance were performed and tested on a test unmanned helicopter and the performance and the feasibility were represented.
