  • This paper is for studying the feasibility of SFCL application for the interconnection operation of 154kV power systems under 345kV S/S in Korean power system. All Korean 154kV power systems are constructed as loop systems in downtown. However, the present 154kV systems are operated with separated systems around 345kV S/S because of fault current and overload problems. In this study, we investigate the structure and operation of 154kV power system in Seoul and study the feasibility of interconnection operation of 154kV systems under 345kV systmes by applying SFCLs to 154kV bus-tie.

  • Interconnection of new energy sources, such as photovoltaic generation, wind power generation, etc., into the electric power distribution system may result in the increasing short-circuit capacity when a short circuit fault occurs. The short-circuit capacity becomes over the interrupting ratings of circuit breakers, and then they fails to operate in the proper way they prevent fault currents from flowing into the distribution facilities and thus causing them serious damages. This study deals with impacts on the respective short-circuit capacity of both low voltage and extra high voltage distribution systems at which new energy sources are installed. In order to obtain more accurate and all-case values very close to reality in the complicated distribution system, computer simulation tools should be required. In this paper, however, its focus is placed on examining the varying trend of short-circuit capacity, which may happen owing to new energy source interconnection, as a previewing step for exhaustive simulation studies.

  • This paper evaluates minimum and maximum power exchange considering economic and technical characteristics between Russia and ROK. First, we evaluate minimum power exchange to assure the economic feasibility by comparison with the total cost and benefit of the interconnected line. For evaluating maximum exchange power, system constraints are considered, which are examined through load flow and dynamic analysis by using the PSS/E program. As a result of these evaluations, we suggest the reasonable range of power exchange between ROK and Russia considering economic and technical constraints with the interconnection scenario that power system interconnection between ROK and Russia will be realized in the year 2010.

  • The PCI Express is a widely used system bus technology that connects the processor and the peripheral I/O devices. The PCI Express is nowadays regarded as a de facto standard in system area interconnection network. It has good characteristics in terms of high-speed, low power. In addition, PCI Express is becoming popular interconnection network technology as like Gigabit Ethernet, InfiniBand, and Myrinet which are extensively used in high-performance computing. In this paper, we designed and implemented a evaluation platform for interconnect network using PCI Express between two computing nodes. We make use of the non-transparent bridge (NTB) technology of PCI Express in order to isolate between the two subsystems. We constructed a testbed system and evaluated the performance on the testbed.

  • Advances in VLSI technology have made it possible to have a larger number of processing elements to be included in highly parallel processor system. A system with a large number of processing elements and memory requires a complex data path. Multistage Interconnection networks(MINS) are useful in providing programmable data path between processing elements and memory modules in multiprocessor system. In this thesis, the performance of MINS for the star network has been analyzed and compared with other networks, such as generalized shuffle network, delta network, and referenced crossbar network.

  • This paper is concerned with the fault diagnosis for stuck-at faults of a multistage interconnection network(MIM) which is a kind of interconnection networks in multicomputer systems. Up to the present, a fault diagnosis scheme has dealt with a fault model of all types, which results in complicated algorithms. In the literature, it is shown that a number of steps and computation are required for the fault detection and isolation algorithms for a class of MINs. In this paper, we propose a simple and easily implementable algorithm for the detection and isolation of the stuck-at fault in MIM. specifically, we develope an at algorithm for the isolation of the source fault in switching elements whenever tile stuck-at fault is detected in MINs. After all, the proposed algorithm is illustrated by an example of 16$\times$16 baseline networks of MINs.

  • Interfaces are the point of interconnection between distributed generation and the energy infrastructure. These interfaces are generally physical but can include a market dimension as well. While there are issues surrounding various interfaces, the most important issues in the short term are on the electrical interface. Much of the discussion and debate surrounding distributed generation interconnection has centered on technical issues. However, there are two elements of Interconnection that merit equal consideration-process and contractual issues. The solution of distributed generation Interconnection issues depends on whether existing requirements can be modified to make them more efficient, transparent, and standardized while maintaining the grid's reliability and safety. In this paper, two main courses, standardization and third party participation, are suggested for the resolution of these issues.

  • The interconnection mechanisms of a smart anisotropic conductive adhesive (ACA) during processing have been characterized. For an understanding of chemorheological mechanisms between the fluxing polymer and solder powder, a thermal analysis as well as solder wetting and coalescence experiments were conducted. The compatibility between the viscosity of the fluxing polymer and melting temperature of solder was characterized to optimize the processing cycle. A fluxing agent was also used to remove the oxide layer performed on the surface of the solder. Based on these chemorheological phenomena of the fluxing polymer and solder, an optimum polymer system and its processing cycle were designed for high performance and reliability in an electrical interconnection system. In the present research, a bonding mechanism of the smart ACA with a polymer spacer ball to control the gap between both substrates is newly proposed and investigated. The solder powder was used as a conductive material instead of polymer-based spherical conductive particles in a conventional anisotropic conductive film.
