  • The purpose of this paper is to estimate the regional economic impact of reverse mortgage system based on farmer's net asset of house and farmland together. The regional economic impact was estimated by using inter-regional input-output model. Major findings are as follows: 1) The result of input-output analysis shows that 49,130 million won of production effect, 20,040 million won of value added effect, and 24,759 number of employment effect, 2) Since the result shows that the elderly spend most of the reverse mortgage money for their living expenses, it seems necessary to adopt net asset based reverse mortgage system to improve and stabilize farmers' living conditions and regional economy.

  • This study is to structurally examine the regional income disparity in Korea. It measures the regional income inducement by household consumption expenditure per unit income, and the regional interdependency of income using 2005 and 2015 Regional Input-Output Tables of 16 provincial regions of Korea. The results are as follows. Firstly, the income inducement by consumption expenditure per unit income decreased overall, mainly due to the decrease in the income inducement of other regions than due to that of their region. Secondly, in many regions, the inter-relational income dependency per unit income decreased also, this too, mainly due to the decrease in the income transfer to other region. And, the income inducement effects of consumption expenditure per unit income of Seoul and Gyeonggi, which occupy a large portion of the Korean economy, were lower than that of other regions, but took the largest portion of income inducements generated by other regions as well as by themselves and absorbed the income transfers from other regions the most. The higher income inducement and income absorption in Seoul and Gyeonggi by consumption expenditure of other regions were mainly because of the high share in service of their consumption structure, the progress in tertiarization of their industrial structure, and the high wage portion. These results also mean that viewed from the regional interdependency of income, the income of Seoul and that of Gyeonggi are highly dependent on the income of other regions. Especially, Gyeonggi which leads the overseas exports of high-tech based manufactured products, has other external factors that contribute to their high income inducement, whereas, Seoul which shows high income absorption using its inter-relations with other domestic regions based on the services, has an income-generating structure that is sensitive to other regions' economic situation. Amid overall declines in regional income inducements and in income transfers, and continuing concentrations into Seoul and Gyeonggi regions, to alleviate the regional disparity, the regional industry policies should, rather than benchmarking the policies of the two concentrated regions, enhance their own inter-regional relationships by strengthening the comparative advantage of their regionally specialized industry.

  • Today, the Korean fisheries is undergoing significant hardships, both domestically and internationally. While declining amount of catch, ascending international oil prices and others pose a compelling challenge to the fishing sector, the ever strengthening influence of international institutions related to fisheries and international trade organizations also compel to bring about myriad of changes in the realm of fishery products. Against the backdrop, this study attempted to examine the fisheries catch, aquaculture, service, processing fields in terms of its rippling effect and of how the industry has been changed by analyzing the past and present through an input-output analysis. As for research methods, 168 items of the input-output tables in 2000, 2005, 2009, and 2010 were integrated to form and classify 32 sectors (28 basic sectors + catch, aquaculture, fishery service, processed fishery products) so as to generate production inducement coefficient, sensitivity coefficient, and impact coefficient. The analysis results revealed that : though the linkage effect of fishery industry was not very sizable, the impact coefficient of the processed fishery products was high; the consumption and investment coefficient sector among production inducement coefficient was on an upturn trend ; the export coefficient was tended to decline. In the future research, it is necessary to carry out a study based on the integration of detailed classification (404 sector) and a study and analysis of fishery industry by different regions through the inter-regional input-output tables. The fishery industry is one of the crucial industries in Korea. The fishery industry is not only important in its own right but also significant as it exerts influence over other industries. Therefore, it is required that there should be more investment and supports for the development of the fishery industry, and pay efforts to ensure that the investment and development could lead to mutual growth for both the fishery and other various industries.

  • This study aims to identify the impact of the logistics industry on the Korean national economy. To do this, we used a MRIO table provided by the Bank of Korea which includes inter and intra regional relationship of the production and consumption for 6 areas - the Seoul Metropolitan, Gangwon, Chungcheong, Jeonra, Gyeongbuk, Gyeongnam area, but an original MRIO table was recomposed of 29 sectors focused on logistics industry for the purpose of this study. we analyzed producing-inducing effects, supply-shortage effects and inter-industry linkage effects based on logistics industry by region and industry. As a result, the logistics industry has more supply-shortage effect rather than production-inducing effect and has a higher ripple effect on the automotive in Gyeongnam area and petrochemical industry in Jeonra area. In particular, the ripple effect of th Metropolitan logistic industry was far smaller than that of other areas, because the Seoul Metropolitan industry was identified as the primary and middle demand industry.

  • This study probes the necessity of establishing a logistic free zone in Port of Busan. It considers the economic effects of establishing the logistic free zone of Busan Port, and suggests policy prescriptions for introducing the free zone system and improving the logistics functions of Busan Port. Using input-output table data, the regression analysis was able to provide a quantitative prediction on effects of making the Busan Port a tariff-free zone. Influence for the regional economy due to the enforcement of the free zone system this research found that a strong positive effects should be expected on the Busan regional economy once the logistic free zone would be set up at the Port of Busan. The positive economic effects on Busan regional industries might be further strengthened if the value-added logistics function of Busan Port could be supplemented by linking to the hinterland of Busan Port.

  • Most studies examining the sub-categories of agro-industry used to access an inter-industry analysis. However, These are some limitations that researchers set sub-categories differently according to their needs. Thus, This study aims to empirically explore the agro-industry sub-categories by area of academic research on agricultural science. The National Standard Science and Technology Classification(NSSTC) codes were used to classify academic research on agricultural science. This codes were examined the sub-categories using Korean input-output statistics industry and product classification by hiring 220 departments of 37 agricultural colleges. Results showed that studies using an inter-industry analysis coincided in terms of agricultural production, but showed differences in forward and backward linkage industries and services. Forward linkages industry were clearly limited to industries in which agricultural products are inputted as raw materials. Then, in terms of services related to agriculture, Previous studies represent fields such as transport and real estate, which are not included. Moreover, Research institutions overlooked by previous studies occupy an important position.

  • The regional development plan by the city of Andong in establishing the foundation for cultural eco-tourism in the cultural area of confucianism(2010-2020) consists of 2 leading projects (the World Confucian Scholar Culture Park, the Korean Culture Theme Park) and 2 strategic projects (the Confucian Scholars' Literature Park, the Sunsunghyun Culture Complex, the Traditional Bittarae Weaving Village). By inter-regional input-output analysis, their multiplier effects of output, value-added, income and employment are estimated respectively 990.2 billion won(multiplier 2.23), 318.2 billion won(multiplier 0.72), 187.7 billion won(multiplier 0.42), and 4,791 workers(multiplier 10.6 workers/billion won). The ongoing project has been, however, delayed due to various issues and has hit a ceiling towards achieving the original objectives of the familiarization, industrialization and globalization of Confucian culture. To overcome these problems, the associated plans of constructing the Korean SMART LINK LINE, of developing contents blending traditional culture and ICT, of establishing tourist complexes and infrastructure around Lake Andong, and of constructing interactive attractions of traditional culture were proposed as new growth-leading plans.

  • Considering the intensified ties between Korean service industry and the other industries in China and Japan, this study empirically analyzes the inter-industry network between the service industry in the Korean capital region and 10 industrial sectors in 20 city-regions of China, Japan, and Korea(CJK). Firstly, unit structures are constructed based on the estimated CJK interregional input-output tables to understand the production connection. Moreover, the reorganized unit structures are visualized as networks and examined from various angles. As the results of the analysis, the inter-industry network of the service industry in the Seoul Metropolitan Area is still mostly dependent on domestic industries, especially on manufacturing industry, while it shows the tendency to be weakly connected to the industries in Chinese and Japanese city-regions.
