  • The purpose of this paper is to report the process of curriculum renewal of an intensive English program with focus on the perceptions of the people involved. The researcher tries to describe the five years of curriculum change. The data collected through surveys, interviews, and observations were analyzed. The findings show that throughout the years, the students that participated in the program perceived that their English skills have improved. The teachers also thought that the student's overall English skills improved. The satisfaction on the chosen textbooks was higher in the student group than the teacher group. The main goal and objectives of the intensive English program in the study changed in the process of curriculum renewal. The program that launched in order to enhance students' conversational skills in 2004 started to include TOEIC instruction in late 2005 due to students' needs. The students were content with the fact that there were many teachers in the program whereas teachers had neutral opinion. The present study aims to suggest the importance of curriculum renewal through program evaluation which can be applied to similar language programs for the continuity and longevity of the programs.

  • This paper discusses the independent seminar as one of the appropriate courses, in particular, for the students who study English literature in the doctoral program. Those who take the Ph.D. program in English literature are considered as future scholars or teachers. In taking the coursework, they not only delve into the knowledge of literature, but also begin to establish broader and deeper senses of research ability. The independent seminar class helps them build such senses through the way in which they experience to the development of the syllabus by themselves. Furthermore, in contrast to a regular class, in which a group of students learn in a classroom, the independent seminar gives each student intensive interactions with his/her professor through the out-of-classroom circumstances, since the seminar is based upon one-on-one study between the student and the professor.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the influence of the energy campaign environmental education of 3rd graders in elementary school in Seoul. The students were divided into an experiment group and a control group. A reconstructed questionnaire through Kim(2005) and Lee(2005)'s test tool was used to survey the effects of applying the energy campaign environmental education program. The i-STATistics program was used to analyze the results. The major results of this study are as follows. First, the researcher was able to develop and apply teaching-learning model for energy campaign environmental education by extracting and recreating the energy education-related contents from the lower grades(1, 2, 3 grade) in 2007 elementary school curriculum. Second, this program had a positive effect on pro-environmental altitudes of elementary school students. Third, this program had a positive correlation among the 3 subdomains of cognitive, affective and behavioral. Fourth, according to qualitative analysis, the students appear to be more concerned in the overall environmental problems containing energy problem and showed a higher will to act while participating in the environmental education through energy campaign program. In conclusion, this program is more directly effective than lectures on energy following the curriculum to improve student's pro-environmental altitudes. Therefore, more intensive research on teaching and learning activities should be highly considered.

Method: A retrospective and observational study was carried out. The total of 58 infants in neonate intensive care unit was enrolled between January 2011 and October 2012. The pharmacist-involved total parenteral nutritional program was initiated in June of 2012. During the program, pharmacist actively participated in the multidisciplinary round with performing the interventions from reviewing the amount of combined total parenteral nutrition and enteral fluid intakes, the amount of total calories, the glucose infusion rate, and the amounts of proteins per weight in kilogram. The outcome was compared with the results from the control group which reflected the prior period of the program initiation. Result: The number of days of regaining birth weight was significantly shorter (14.5 vs. 19 days, p=0.049) and the percentage of total calorie days with >90 kcal/kg/day was increased significantly (40 vs. 13%, p=0.008) in intervention group compared to the values in control group. In addition, the total mean daily caloric intakes ($84.78{\pm}13.8$ vs. $74.86{\pm}15.36$ kcal/kg/day, p=0.018) was significantly higher in intervention group than those results in control group. There were no significant differences in safety parameters between two groups related to nutritional services of necrotizing enterocolitis, intraventricular hemorrhage, proven sepsis, and also parenteral nutrition-induced hepatotoxicity. Conclusion: Pharmacist-involved total parenteral nutrition managed program was successfully implemented. The outcome showed the improved effectiveness of total parenteral nutrition with pharmacist interventions and no differences in adverse reactions. This could prove the positive effects of pharmacist involvement on nutritional therapy for neonate population.

  • This study aims at revitalization of industrial consignment education and focuses on the development of preferred subjects and teaching methods. The survey was administered to six hundred workers for the local fashion distribution companies for two years between through interview and questionnaire with 13 questions: 3 of them about favorite subjects, 7 about teaching methods, and the rest about whether or not they want to enter a college as well as which certificates and which kinds of job they want to have. The results of the survey can be summarized as follows. 1 The respondents in 2005 who answered to the questions about fashion design and other major subjects show that they preferred the subjects on fashion design to the subject of make-up and that they were interested in the photo-shop subject while they were less interested in the fashion marketing subject. 2 In order to apply what they learn to their own work field, the respondents want practical-work oriented lectures rather than theory centered ones. It means the new teaching program needs the teaching staffs who have had some practical work experiences and majored in the same subjects as the respondents prefer to learn. So it is necessary to take it into consideration that the development of new curriculums should focus on the subjects of practical skill and the experiences of actual work fields. 3 The certificate of 'shop-master' qualification is considered as the most interesting and necessary thing for their job. The respondents show that they are most concerned in a shop-master, manager of a department at department stores related to fashion distribution companies. Therefore, it points out the intensive teaching program for getting the qualification of shop-master is a must in the industrial consignment education.

  • The purpose of this study is to verify the effect of the intensive support program for junior college students with low academic performance on students' learning motivation and self-learning efficacy, and to explore its meaning. This study was conducted with 46 students who participated in the JUMP-UP program supported by the D University Teaching and Learning Development Center in Busan for backers and students with low grades. The research question of this study is, first, does the JUMP-UP program affect the reinforcement of the learning motivation of junior college students? Second, does the JUMP-UP program affect the self-learning efficacy of junior college students? As a result of examining the effectiveness by conducting a survey before and after participating in the JUMP-UP program, the JUMP-UP program showed statistically significant changes in all items of participating learners' learning motivation and self-learning efficacy. Through this, it can be seen that an intensive support program such as the JUMP-UP program is valuable as a support program suitable for improving the learning motivation and self-learning efficacy of vocational college students suffering from low academic performance.
