  • Reliability engineering is regarded as the major and important roll for all industry. And advanced manufacturing systems with high sped and intelligent have been developing for betterment of machining ability. In this study, we have systemized evaluation of reliability for machinery system. We proposed the reliability assessment and designed and manufactured reliability test-bed to evaluate reliability. In addition we acquired reliability data using test-bed system and made database to handle reliability data. And also we not only use reliability data by analyzing reliability, but also apply design review method using analyzing critical units of machinery system. Form this study, we will expect to guide and increase the reliability engineering in developing and processing phase of high quality product.

  • This paper addresses an intelligent robot control system using an off-line programming to teach a precise assembly task of electronic components in a flexible way. The investigated task consists of three job: heat caulking test, soldering on a circuit board, and checking of soldering defects on the back cover of a camera. This study investigates the remodelling of the most complicated cell in terms of the accuracy and fault rate among the twelve cells in a camera back-cover assembly line. We have attempted to enhance back-cover assembly line. We have attempted to enhance soldering quality, to add task flexibility, to reduce failure rate, and to increase product reliability. This study modifies the cell structure, and improves the soldering condition. The developed all system implements the real-time control of assembly with vision data, and realized an easier task teaching on off-line programming.

  • In silicon wafer manufacturing process, the grinding process has been adopted to improve the flatness of water. The grinding of wafer is usually used by the infeed grinding machine. Grinding conditions are spindle speed, feed speed, rotation speed, grinding stone etc. But grinding condition selection and analysis is so difficult in grinding machine. In the intelligent grinding system based on knowledge many researchers have studied expert system, neural network, fuzzy etc. In this paper we deal grinding condition selection method, Taguchi method and Genetic Analysis.

  • In resistance spot welding, regardless of the optimal condition, bad weld quality was still produced due to complicated manufacturing processes such as electrode wear, misalignment between the electrode and workpiece, poor part fit-up, and etc.. Therefore, the goal of this study was to measure the process signal which contains weld quality information, and to develop the process fault monitoring system. Welding force signal obtained through variety experimental conditions was analyzed and divided into three categories: good, shunt, and poor fit-up group. And then a monitoring algorithm made up of an artificial neural network that could estimate the process fault of each different category based on pattern was developed.

  • Software for analyzing documents on the net to detect specific categories of occurrences is in great demand. In the current world where detecting terrorist threats is critical there is a great need for such systems. One of the critical application areas of such software is the automatic detection of a national infrastructure emergency. In this research an agent-based generic architecture for emergency warning systems is proposed and implemented. This system, called the National Infrastructure Emergency Warning System (NIEWS), is designed to analyze given documents, to detect threats, and to report possible threats with the necessary information to the appropriate users autonomously. In addition, a systematic analysis framework to detect emergencies on the subject of defensive information warfare is designated and implemented through a knowledge base. The developed system along with the knowledge base is implemented and successfully deployed to Strategic Crisis Exercise (SCE) at the United State Army War College (USAWC), saving a good amount of money by replacing human SMEs (subject matter experts) in the SCE.

Intelligent 3D packing using a grouping algorithm for automotive container engineering

  • Storing, and the loading and unloading of materials at production sites in the manufacturing sector for mass production is a critical problem that affects various aspects: the layout of the factory, line-side space, logistics, workers' work paths and ease of work, automatic procurement of components, and transfer and supply. Traditionally, the nesting problem has been an issue to improve the efficiency of raw materials; further, research into mainly 2D optimization has progressed. Also, recently, research into the expanded usage of 3D models to implement packing optimization has been actively carried out. Nevertheless, packing algorithms using 3D models are not widely used in practice, due to the large decrease in efficiency, owing to the complexity and excessive computational time. In this paper, the problem of efficiently loading and unloading freeform 3D objects into a given container has been solved, by considering the 3D form, ease of loading and unloading, and packing density. For this reason, a Group Packing Approach for workers has been developed, by using analyzed truck packing work patterns and Group Technology, which is to enhance the efficiency of storage in the manufacturing sector. Also, an algorithm for 3D packing has been developed, and implemented in a commercial 3D CAD modeling system. The 3D packing method consists of a grouping algorithm, a sequencing algorithm, an orientating algorithm, and a loading algorithm. These algorithms concern the respective aspects: the packing order, orientation decisions of parts, collision checking among parts and processing, position decisions of parts, efficiency verification, and loading and unloading simulation. Storage optimization and examination of the ease of loading and unloading are possible, and various kinds of engineering analysis, such as work performance analysis, are facilitated through the intelligent 3D packing method developed in this paper, by using the results of the 3D model.

  • Current Western-dominated paradigms of technology are based on a reductionstic view, i.e., machines evolve to an intelligent but isolated object form by serially integrating precise subtechnology, humans and the environment through K rperlichkeit(corporeality or philosophy of Mom), is explored. Parallelism based on holism and embodiment, and relative interactions based on correspondence and interrelationships, are the key ideas in the proposed paradigm. An interactive system, called the Emotional intelligence Interface and Performance System(EIPS), is proposed and implemented to explore the proposed interactive technology paradigm. Also, recent collaborations by ASTA(Arts, Sciences & Technology in Asia), an interdisciplinary project team of artists and engineers, are introduced to demonstrate these explorations.

  • IEC 61850은 변전소자동화시스템에 대한 국제 표준이다. IEC 61850 파트 7에서는 상호운용성을 위하여 IED (Intelligent Electronic Device)에 구현해야 할 정보모델과 서비스 모델을 추상적로 정의하였다. IEC 61850 파트 8에서 정의된 SCSM (Specific communication service mapping)은 추상적인 객체와 서비스를 MMS (Manufacturing Message Specification, ISO 9506) 와 ISO/IEC 8802-3으로 매핑하는 것을 정의한다. 이 논문은 SCSM을 이용하여 어떻게 IEC 61850 기반의 IED를 구현해야 하는지 설명한다.

  • The rotating machineries always generate harmonic frequencies of their own rotating speed, and increment of vibration amplitude affects to the equipments which connected to the vibrational source and causes industrial calamities. The life cycle of equipments can be extended and damages to the human beings could be prevented by identifying the cause of malfunctions through prediction of the increment of vibration and records of vibrational history. In this study, therefore, diagnostic expert algorithm for the centrifugal pump is developed by integrating fuzzy inference method and signal processing techniques. And the validity of the developed diagnostic system is examined via various computer simulations.

  • In this paper, it is presented a new scheme of adaptive-neuro control system to implement real-time control of robot manipulator. Unlike the well-established theory fir the adaptive control of linear systems, there exists relatively little general theory fir the adaptive control of nonlinear systems. Adaptive control technique is essential fir providing a stable and robust performance fir application of robot control. The proposed neuro control algorithm is one of teaming a model based error back-propagation scheme using Lyapunov stability analysis method. Through simulation, the proposed adaptive-neuro control scheme is proved to be a efficient control technique f3r real-time control of robot system using DSPs.
