The advent of 5G mobile communications, which is expected in 2020, will provide many services such as Internet of Things (IoT) and vehicle-to-infra/vehicle/nomadic (V2X) communication. There are many requirements to realizing these services: reduced latency, high data rate and reliability, and real-time service. In particular, a high level of reliability and delay sensitivity with an increased data rate are very important for M2M, IoT, and Factory 4.0. Around the world, 5G standardization organizations have considered these services and grouped them to finally derive the technical requirements and service scenarios. The first scenario is broadcast services that use a high data rate for multiple cases of sporting events or emergencies. The second scenario is as support for e-Health, car reliability, etc.; the third scenario is related to VR games with delay sensitivity and real-time techniques. Recently, these groups have been forming agreements on the requirements for such scenarios and the target level. Various techniques are being studied to satisfy such requirements and are being discussed in the context of software-defined networking (SDN) as the next-generation network architecture. SDN is being used to standardize ONF and basically refers to a structure that separates signals for the control plane from the packets for the data plane. One of the best examples for low latency and high reliability is an intelligent traffic system (ITS) using V2X. Because a car passes a small cell of the 5G network very rapidly, the messages to be delivered in the event of an emergency have to be transported in a very short time. This is a typical example requiring high delay sensitivity. 5G has to support a high reliability and delay sensitivity requirements for V2X in the field of traffic control. For these reasons, V2X is a major application of critical delay. V2X (vehicle-to-infra/vehicle/nomadic) represents all types of communication methods applicable to road and vehicles. It refers to a connected or networked vehicle. V2X can be divided into three kinds of communications. First is the communication between a vehicle and infrastructure (vehicle-to-infrastructure; V2I). Second is the communication between a vehicle and another vehicle (vehicle-to-vehicle; V2V). Third is the communication between a vehicle and mobile equipment (vehicle-to-nomadic devices; V2N). This will be added in the future in various fields. Because the SDN structure is under consideration as the next-generation network architecture, the SDN architecture is significant. However, the centralized architecture of SDN can be considered as an unfavorable structure for delay-sensitive services because a centralized architecture is needed to communicate with many nodes and provide processing power. Therefore, in the case of emergency V2X communications, delay-related control functions require a tree supporting structure. For such a scenario, the architecture of the network processing the vehicle information is a major variable affecting delay. Because it is difficult to meet the desired level of delay sensitivity with a typical fully centralized SDN structure, research on the optimal size of an SDN for processing information is needed. This study examined the SDN architecture considering the V2X emergency delay requirements of a 5G network in the worst-case scenario and performed a system-level simulation on the speed of the car, radius, and cell tier to derive a range of cells for information transfer in SDN network. In the simulation, because 5G provides a sufficiently high data rate, the information for neighboring vehicle support to the car was assumed to be without errors. Furthermore, the 5G small cell was assumed to have a cell radius of 50-100 m, and the maximum speed of the vehicle was considered to be 30-200 km/h in order to examine the network architecture to minimize the delay.

Relay technology is becoming more important for mobile communications and wireless internet of things (IoT) networking because of the extended access network coverage range and reliable quality of service (QoS) it can provide at low power consumption levels. Existing mobile multihop relay (MMR) technology uses fixed-point stationary relay stations (RSs) and a divided time-frame (or frequency-band) to support the relay operation. This approach has limitations when a local fixed-point stationary RS does not exist. In addition, since the time-frame (or frequency-band) channel resources are pre-divided for the relay operation, there is no way to achieve high channel utilization using intelligent opportunistic techniques. In this paper, a different approach is considered, where the use of mobile/IoT devices as RSs is considered. In applications that use mobile/IoT devices as relay systems, due to the very limited battery energy of a mobile/IoT device and unequal channel conditions to and from the RS, both minimum energy consumption and QoS support must be considered simultaneously in the selection and configuration of RSs. Therefore, in this paper, a mobile RS is selected and configured with the objective of minimizing power consumption while satisfying end-to-end data rate and bit error rate (BER) requirements. For the RS, both downlink (DL) to the destination system (DS) (i.e., IoT device or user equipment (UE)) and uplink (UL) to the base station (BS) need to be adaptively configured (using adaptive modulation and power control) to minimize power consumption while satisfying the end-to-end QoS constraints. This paper proposes a minimum transmission power consuming RS selection and configuration (MPRSC) scheme, where the RS uses cognitive radio (CR) sub-channels when communicating with the DS, and therefore the scheme is named MPRSC-CR. The proposed MPRSC-CR scheme is activated when a DS moves out of the BS's QoS supportive coverage range. In this case, data transmissions between the RS and BS use the assigned primary channel that the DS had been using, and data transmissions between the RS and DS use CR sub-channels. The simulation results demonstrate that the proposed MPRSC-CR scheme extends the coverage range of the BS and minimizes the power consumption of the RS through optimal selection and configuration of a RS.

Wireless Mesh Network(WMN) has drawn much attention due to easy deployment and good scalability. Recently, major power utilities have been focusing on R&D to apply WMN technology in Smart Grid Network. Smart Grid is an intelligent electrical power network that can maximize energy efficiency through bidirectional communication between utility providers and customers with ICT(Information Communication Technology). It is necessary to guarantee QoS of some important data in Smart Grid system such as real-time data delivery. In this paper, we suggest QoS enhancement method for WMN based Smart Grid system using IEEE 802.11s. We analyze Smart Grid Application characteristics and apply IEEE 802.11s WMN scheme for Smart Grid in domestic power communication system. Performance evaluation is progressed using NS-2 simulator implementing IEEE 802.11s. The simulation results show that the QoS enhancement scheme can guarantee stable bandwidth irrespective of traffic condition due to IEEE 802.11s reservation mechanism.
This research is to design a high performance NAND-type flash memory package with a smart buffer cache that enhances the exploitation of spatial and temporal locality. The proposed buffer structure in a NAND flash memory package, called as a smart buffer cache, consists of three parts, i.e., a fully-associative victim buffer with a small block size, a fully-associative spatial buffer with a large block size, and a dynamic fetching unit. This new NAND-type flash memory package can achieve dramatically high performance and low power consumption comparing with any conventional NAND-type flash memory. Our results show that the NAND flash memory package with a smart buffer cache can reduce the miss ratio by around 70% and the average memory access time by around 67%, over the conventional NAND flash memory configuration. Also, the average miss ratio and average memory access time of the package module with smart buffer for a given buffer space (e.g., 3KB) can achieve better performance than package modules with a conventional direct-mapped buffer with eight times(e.g., 32KB) as much space and a fully-associative configuration with twice as much space(e.g., 8KB)

The design of an air seat cushion for preventing decubitus ulcer includes many design factors such as the even distribution of interface pressure, the minimization of mean and peak interface pressure values, and the reduction of interface shear force and pressure gradient. It involves the anatomic condition of plegia's buttock as well as air pressure in air cells of cushion. As a result, a suitable design of the cushion satisfying the all requirements is a difficult problem. Therefore, an appropriate and effective numerical tool to develop an air cushion orthosis is required. The purpose of the present study was to develop an air seat cushion orthosis having optimized air cells for evenly distributed interface pressure between the buttock and cushion surface. For the purpose, an advanced finite element (FE) model for the design of air cushion was developed. Since the interface pressure and shear force behavior, as well as stress analyses were primary concern, a FE air cell model was developed and verified by the experiments. Then, the interactions of two cells were checked. Also, the human part of the developed numerical model includes every material property and geometry related to buttock and femoral parts. For construction of dimension data of buttock and femoral parts, CT scans were performed. A commercial FE program was employed for the simulation representing the seating process on the orthosis. Then, sensitive analyses were performed with varying design parameters. A set of optimal design parameters was found satisfying the design criteria of the orthosis. The results were utilized to produce a prototype of the orthosis. Experimentally, the buttock interface pressure distributions from the optimized and previous ones were compared. The new seat orthosis showed a significantly improved interface pressure characteristics compared to the most popular one in the market. The new orthosis will be used for the development of the AI(artificial intelligent) controlled seat orthosis fur prevention of decubitus ulcer fur various plegic patients and the elderly.

In the manufacturing process of flat panel displays, a high-precision planar motion stage is used to position a specimen. Stages of this type typically use frictionless linear motors and air bearings, and laser interferometers. Real-time dynamic correction of the yaw motion error is very important because the inevitable yaw motion error of the stage means a change in the specimen orientation. Gantry control is generally used to compensate for yaw motion errors. Flexure units that allow rotational motion are applied to the stage to apply this method to a stage using an air-bearing guide. This paper proposes a method to improve the constant speed motion performance of a H-type XY stage equipped with air bearing and flexure units. When applying the gantry control to the stage, including the flexure units, the cause of the mutual ripple generated from the linear motors is analyzed, and adaptive learning control is proposed to compensate for the mutual ripple. A simulation was performed to verify the proposed method. The speed ripple was reduced to approximately the 22 % level. The ripple reduction was verified by simulating the stage state where yaw motion error occurs.
A location tracking sensor such as GPS, INS, Radar, and optical equipments is used in tracking Maneuvering Targets with a multi-sensor, and such systems are used to track, detect, and control UAV, guided missile, and spaceship. Until now, Most of the studies related to tracking Maneuvering Targets are on fusing multiple Radars, or adding a supplementary sensor to INS and GPS. However, A study is required to change the degree of application in fusions since the system property and error property are different from sensors. In this paper, we perform the error analysis of the sensor properties by adding a ground radar to GPS and INS for improving the tracking performance by multi-sensor fusion, and suggest the tracking algorithm that improves the precision and stability by changing the sensor probability of each sensor according to the error. For evaluation, we extract the altitude values in a simulation for the trajectory of UAV and apply the suggested algorithm to carry out the performance analysis. In this study, we change the weight of the evaluated values according to the degree of error between the navigation information of each sensor to improve the precision of navigation information, and made it possible to have a strong tracking which is not affected by external purposed environmental change and disturbance.
In modern automated container terminals, automated guided vehicle (AGV) systems are considered a viable option for the horizontal tansportation of containers between the stacking yard and the quayside cranes. AGVs in a container terminal move rather freely and do not follow fixed guide paths. For an efficient operation of such AGVs, however, a sophisticated traffic management system is required. Although the flexible routing scheme allows us to find the shortest possible routes for each of the AGVs, it may incur many coincidental encounters and path intersections of the AGVs, leading to collisions or deadlocks. However, the computational cost of perfect prediction and avoidance of deadlocks is prohibitively expensive for a real time application. In this paper, we propose a traffic control method that predicts and avoids some simple, but at the same time the most frequently occurring, cases of deadlocks between two AGVs. More complicated deadlock situations are not predicted ahead of time but detected and resolved after they occur. Our method is computationally cheap and readily applicable to real time applications. The efficiency and effectiveness of our proposed methods have been validated by simulation.
With innovative advances in wireless communication technology, many researches for extending network lifetime in maximum by using energy harvesting have been actively performed on the area of network resource optimization, QoS-guaranteed transmission, energy-intelligent routing and etc. As known well, it is very hard to guarantee end-to-end network delay due to uncertainty of the amount of harvested energy in multi-hop RF(radio frequency) energy harvesting wireless networks. To minimize end-to-end delay in multi-hop RF energy harvesting networks, this paper proposes an energy efficient routing metric based on interference aware and protocol which takes account of various delays caused by co-channel interference, energy harvesting time and queuing in a relay node. The proposed method maximizes end-to-end throughput by performing avoidance of packet congestion causing load unbalance, reduction of waiting time due to exhaustion of energy and restraint of delay time from co-channel interference. Finally simulation results using ns-3 simulator show that the proposed method outperforms existing methods in respect of throughput, end-to-end delay and energy consumption.

Transportation has been playing important role in our society by providing for people, freight, and information. However, it cuts its own throat by causing car accidents, traffic congestion, and air pollution. The main cause of these problems is a noticeable growth in the number of vehicles. The easiest way to mitigate these problems is to build new road infrastructures unless resources such as time, money, and space are limited. Therefore, there is a need to manage the existing road infrastructures effectively and safely. In this paper, we propose a road reservation scheme that provides fast and safe response for emergency vehicles using ubiquitous sensor network. Our idea is to allow emergency vehicle to reserve a road on a freeway for arriving to the scene of the accident quickly and safely. We evaluate the performance by three reservation method (No, Hop, and Full) to show that emergency vehicles such as ambulances, fire trucks, or police cars can rapidly and safely reach their destination. Simulation results show that the average speed of road reservation is about 1.09 ~ 1.20 times faster than that of non-reservation at various flow rates. However, road reservation should consider the speed of the emergency vehicle and the road density of the emergency vehicle processing direction, as a result of Hop Reservation and Full Reservation performance comparison analysis. We confirm that road reservation can guarantee safe driving of emergency vehicles without reducing their speed and help to mitigate traffic congestion.
