Lifejcket-Integrated Antenna for Search and Rescue System (탐색 및 구조 시스템용 구명조끼 내장형 안테나)

  • When the crew or passengers fall into the water due to marine accident of vessel, it is very important to rescue them quickly. In the case of marine accidents, most people in distress have been wearing a lifejacket, so if the GPS and Cospas-Sarsat communication module will be integrated within the lifejacket, it is easy to rescue them. In this paper, development of the dual band lifejacket-integrated antenna for GPS and Cospas-Sarsat communication is discussed. The antenna with the FR-4 substrate of 0.2mm thickness for flexibility was designed that it can be fitted close to the shoulder of the life jacket and operate at 1.575GHz and 406MHz. The GPS communication antenna was implemented with a ring-slot antenna having a circular polarized characteristic and a meander type linear polarized antenna is used as Cospas-Sarsat communication. The two antennas are fed by a single microstrip line and an open stub is used to minimize the mutual interference between the two antennas. The performance of the fabricated antenna attached to the life vest is confirmed by the measurement of the return loss at GPS and Cospas-Sarsat frequency bands.

  • Launch vehicle for injecting the satellite into its orbit is composed with propulsion system, guidance and navigation system, telemetry and so on. Among the others, the propulsion system is the most important part, because that is the key factor of failure of launch vehicle. Especially, the most of failures were occurred in time of engine startup. Therefore, the study of the conditions for stable engine startup is needed at the first step of development. The many researches were accomplished for mathematical modeling, stable startup engine and control of liquid propellant rocket engine. But the cavitation problem that can be occurred at an inlet of pump associated with propellant feeding system wasn't considered in these works. In this paper, propulsion system model was integrated with clustered engines and propellant feeding system for the simulations of engine startup. As the results of simulations, the requirements were deduced for the stable engine startup without the cavitation at an inlet of pump.

  • This paper proposes the development model of the aerodrome traffic control simulator (ATCS) System for the domestic airport. The application of the ATCS is used as a OJT training function for the air traffic controller and research function for a new control procedure. In order to perform those functions, we classified the ATCS in three types such as education, research and integrated management system, and the ATCS types analysed by the working and OJT training condition in domestic airport. Therefore, we proposed the ATCS models such as uniform type, differential type, and center type, and analysed the merits and demerits of the proposed models. Also we looked up ATCS's application in terms of the building and maintenance costs, operational utilization and scalability. So, we proposed the differential type which was suitable for the developing ATCS for the domestic airports.

  • It's about time we had to think an alternative to recover out insufficient fishery market caused by IMF locally as well as the fishery agreement on Japan and China. The Ministry of Maritime Affairs & Fisheries have planning the advancing fishery information integrated system for the fishing present condition, marine resource administration and applicability consideration. The fishery information communication system is build up to the raw data & process-network-content. The communication system must be small size, low cost and adapted SSB transceiver, that is using fishery shipping. In this paper We present digital data communication network to exchange information for fishery and safety between fishing ship and coast station in cheeper communication fee using SSB(single Side Band) in HF(High Frequency) band.

  • In this paper, we develop a gesture-based input device equipped with accelerometers and gyroscopes. The sensors measure the inertial measurements, i.e., accelerations and angular velocities produced by the movement of the system when a user is inputting gestures on a plane surface or in a 3D space. The gyroscope measurements are integrated to give orientation of the device and consequently used to compensate the accelerations. The compensated accelerations are doubly integrated to yield the position of the device. With this approach, a user's gesture input trajectories can be recovered without any external sensors. Three versions of motion tracking algorithms are provided to cope with wide spectrum of applications. Then, a Bayesian network based recognition system processes the recovered trajectories to identify the gesture class. Experimental results convincingly show the feasibility and effectiveness of the proposed gesture input device. In order to show practical use of the proposed input method, we implemented a prototype system, which is a gesture-based remote controller (Magic Wand).

  • The present investigation is concerned with the embodiment of virtual museum offering effective interaction with user. In real museum, we mainly get text-based information and we can't operate ancient relics as well. Nowadays there are various information service system about untouchable articles in the museum on the WEB, but each medium presents rather individual and unilateral information than useful and integrated one. This paper aims at the embodiment of virtual museum makes up for the weak points of the previous services. This cyberspace provides user with free viewpoint and navigation utilities and additional information for the corresponding 3D relics effectively.

Development of Image-based Assistant Algorithm for Vehicle Positioning by Detecting Road Facilities

  • Due to recent improvements in computer processing speed and image processing technology, researches are being actively carried out to combine information from a camera with existing GNSS (Global Navigation Satellite System) and dead reckoning. In this study, the mathematical model based on SPR (Single Photo Resection) is derived for image-based assistant algorithm for vehicle positioning. Simulation test is performed to analyze factors affecting SPR. In addition, GNSS/on-board vehicle sensor/image based positioning algorithm is developed by combining image-based positioning algorithm with existing positioning algorithm. The performance of the integrated algorithm is evaluated by the actual driving test and landmark's position data, which is required to perform SPR, based on simulation. The precision of the horizontal position error is 1.79m in the case of the existing positioning algorithm, and that of the integrated positioning algorithm is 0.12m at the points where SPR is performed. In future research, it is necessary to develop an optimized algorithm based on the actual landmark's position data.

  • A real time transporter locating system for shipyard has been implemented through the GNSS and IMU sensor. There are a lot of block movements by transporters at the shipyard, which need to be controlled and monitored for conforming to the shipbuilding process. For the precise and safe transporter motion at the yard, a locating system has been developed by using the GNSS and IMU sensors for the transporter. There are several obstacles of the GPS signals for locating the transporter at the yard, such as, buildings and metal structures. To overcome the weakness of the GPS signal transmission, the IMU data have been properly integrated together. The performance of the proposed real time block locating system has been verified through the real experiments with transporters carrying blocks at a shipyard.

  • This paper describes the plan and procedure of a development test and evaluation that will be performed to verify the performance and technology of multi-mission unmanned surface vehicles (MMUSVs). In order to verify the design requirement of MMUSVs, we designed and manufactured the common platform of MMUSVs, which have an overall length of8.4 m, a displacement of 3,100 kg, and a speed of more than35 kts. The platform is equipped with several sub-systems, including radar and an EOTS/IRS. The EOTS/IRS, along with the search radar, is used for effective detection, identification, and targeting. The core technologies of MMUSV for DT&E will be investigated. The common platform design technologies, remote operating and control system technologies, autonomous navigation technologies, and unmanned operational technology of sensors and equipment will be studied for the development of the MMUSV's core technologies. The system will be able to make precise observations and track targets both manually and automatically during day and night conditions. Currently, the verification tests for each of the technologies and for the integrated system are in the pipeline for DT&E, which will be performed next year. Also, software reliability and life tests will be performed.

  • In this paper, We propose variable cut-off frequency and variable sample rate small-area multi-channel digital filter for telemetry system. Proposed digital filter reduced hardware area by implementing filter banks that can variably use cut-off frequency and sample rate without additional filter banks for an arbitrary cut ratio. In addition, We propose the architecture in which sample rate can variably be selected according to the number of filters that pass through the multiplexer control. By using time division multiplexing (TDM) supported by the finite impulse response (FIR) intellectual property (IP) of Quartus, the proposed digital filter can greatly reduce digital signal processing (DSP) blocks from 80 to 1 compared without TDM. Proposed digital filter calculated order and coefficients using Kaiser window function in Matlab, and implemented using very high speed integrated circuits hardware descryption language (VHDL). After applying to the telemetry system, we confirmed that the proposed digital filter was operating through the experimental results in the test environment.
