Optimization of PI Controller Gain for Simplified Vector Control on PMSM Using Genetic Algorithm

  • This paper proposes the used of genetic algorithm for optimizing PI controller and describes the dynamic modeling simulation for the permanent magnet synchronous motor driven by simplified vector control with the aid of MATLAB-Simulink environment. Furthermore, three kinds of error criterion minimization, integral absolute error, integral square error, and integral time absolute error, are used as objective function in the genetic algorithm. The modeling procedures and simulation results are described and presented in this paper. Computer simulation results indicate that the genetic algorithm was able to optimize the PI controller and gives good control performance of the system. Moreover, simplified vector control on permanent magnet synchronous motor does not need to regulate the direct axis component current. This makes simplified vector control of the permanent magnet synchronous motor very useful for some special applications that need simple control structure and low cost performance.

  • Metaheuristic algorithms can work well in solving or optimizing problems, especially those that require approximation or do not have a good analytical solution. Particle swarm optimization (PSO) is one of these algorithms. The response quality of these algorithms depends on the objective function and its regulated parameters. The nonlinear nature of the pressurized light-water nuclear reactor (PWR) dynamics is a significant target for PSO. The two-point kinetics model of this type of reactor is used because of fission products properties. The proportional-integral-derivative (PID) controller is intended to control the power level of the PWR at a short-time transient. The absolute error (IAE), integral of square error (ISE), integral of time-absolute error (ITAE), and integral of time-square error (ITSE) objective functions have been used as performance indexes to tune the PID gains with PSO. The optimization results with each of them are evaluated with the number of function evaluations (NFE). All performance indexes achieve good results with differences in the rate of over/under-shoot or convergence rate of the cost function, in the desired time domain.

  • In this paper, an application of a decentralized $H_{\infty}$ controller(DHC) to multiple controlled-permanent magnet(CMAG) magnetic levitation(Maglev) systems is presented. The designed DHC using two Riccati equations iteratively has simpler structure and needs less computational loads than conventional centralized $H_{\infty}$ controller. A target plant is a hybrid-type CMAG system with permanent magnet and coil, and its mathematical model is firstly derived to design the DHC. To implement the designed algorithm, a real Maglev vehicle system including digital controller, chopper, sensor, etc., is manufactured. To compare the performances of the DHC method with an observer-based state feedback control(OSFC), the input tracking and disturbance rejection characteristics are experimentally tested. As performance indices(PI), integral of squared error(ISE), integral of absolute error(IAE), integral of time multiplied by absolute error(ITAE) and integral of time multiplied by squared error(ITSE) are used. From the experimental results, it can be seen that the input tracking and disturbance rejection performances of the DHC are better than those of the conventional controller.

Compensation of Position Error due to Amplitude Imbalance in Resolver Signals

  • This paper presents a compensation algorithm for position error due to an amplitude imbalance between resolver output signals. Resolvers are typically used to obtain absolute position information for motor drive systems in severe environments. Position error is caused by an amplitude imbalance of the resolver output signals. As a result, the d- and q-axis currents of synchronous reference frame have periodic ripples in the stator fundamental frequency in permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) drive systems. Therefore, this paper proposes a compensation algorithm to reduce the position error generated by the amplitude imbalance. The proposed method does not require any additional hardware, and reduces computation time with a simple integral operation according to rotor position. In addition, the position error can be directly compensated for by the estimated position error. The effectiveness of the proposed compensation algorithm is verified through several simulations and experiments.

Reduction of Fuzzy Rules and Membership Functions and Its Application to Fuzzy PI and PD Type Controllers

  • Fuzzy controller's design depends mainly on the rule base and membership functions over the controller's input and output ranges. This paper presents two different approaches to deal with these design issues. A simple and efficient approach; namely, Fuzzy Subtractive Clustering is used to identify the rule base needed to realize Fuzzy PI and PD type controllers. This technique provides a mechanism to obtain the reduced rule set covering the whole input/output space as well as membership functions for each input variable. But it is found that some membership functions projected from different clusters have high degree of similarity. The number of membership functions of each input variable is then reduced using a similarity measure. In this paper, the fuzzy subtractive clustering approach is shown to reduce 49 rules to 8 rules and number of membership functions to 4 and 6 for input variables (error and change in error) maintaining almost the same level of performance. Simulation on a wide range of linear and nonlinear processes is carried out and results are compared with fuzzy PI and PD type controllers without clustering in terms of several performance measures such as peak overshoot, settling time, rise time, integral absolute error (IAE) and integral-of-time multiplied absolute error (ITAE) and in each case the proposed schemes shows an identical performance.

IMC 구조를 갖는 PID 제어기의 자동 동조 (Auto - tuning of PID Controllers with IMC Structure)

  • 본 논문은 성능 향상을 위하여 IMC 제어 구조를 갖는 PID 제어기 설계를 제안했다. 내부 모델은 최종값 정리와 유전자 알고리즘을 이용하여 2차의 지연시간을 갖는 모델로 동정 하였다. 그리고 제어기 파라미터 값은 성능지수 (IAE, ITAE)값이 최소가 되도록 내부 모델과 수치적 계산에 의해서 자동 동조된다. 시뮬레이션을 통하여 다양한 공정에 대하여 본 논문에서 새롭게 제안된 방법이 기존의 방법보다 우수함을 확인 할 수 있었다.

  • Active queue management (AQM) is a leading congestion control system, which can keep smaller queuing delay, less packet loss with better network utilization and throughput by intentionally dropping the packets at the intermediate hubs in TCP/IP (transmission control protocol/Internet protocol) networks. To accelerate the responsiveness of AQM framework, proportional-integral-differential (PID) controllers are utilized. In spite of its simplicity, it can effectively take care of a range of complex problems; however it is a lot complicated to track down optimal PID parameters with conventional procedures. A few new strategies have been grown as of late to adjust the PID controller parameters. Therefore, in this paper, we have developed a Squirrel search based PID controller to dynamically find its controller gain parameters for AQM. The controller gain parameters are decided based on minimizing the integrated-absolute error (IAE) in order to ensure less packet loss, high link utilization and a stable queue length in favor of TCP networks.

  • 주기적으로 제어 성능을 평가하고, 평가 결과에 따라서 제어시스템의 제어기 상수를 최적화하거나 제어 밸브와 같은 제어기기의 문제점들을 사전에 개선하고자하는 노력이 있어왔다. 제어성능 평가방법은 제어목표 값에 대한 추종성을 평가하는 Set Point Analysis 방법을 주로 사용한다. 평가 지표는 Integral Absolute Error(IAE)와 같은 Error Integral 값과 Minimum Variance 방법이 실용적으로 사용된다. 본 논문에서는 평가 대상시스템으로 원자력발전소의 수위 제어시스템중 하나를 선정하고 Control Performance Assessment를 수행하였다. 이를 기반으로 대상 시스템의 제어모델링을 바탕으로 한 Minimum Integral Error를 만족하는 제어기 상수를 구하였으며 새로운 상수를 제어기에 설정한 후 다시 성능을 평가하였다. 평가 결과, 제어시스템의 제어 성능 평가 지표를 사용한 제어 루프의 평가와 예방 조치가 실제적으로 발전소의 안정적 운전에 유용하다는 것을 입증하였다.

Two-Parameter Optimization of CANDU Reactor Power Controller

  • A nonlinear dynamic optimization has been performed for reactor power control system of CANDU 6 nuclear power plant considering xenon, fuel and moderator temperature feedback effects. Integral-of-Time-multiplied Absolute-Error (ITAE) criterion has been used as a performance index of the system behavior. Optimum controller gain are found by searching algorithm of Sequential Quadratic Programming (SQP). System models are referenced from most recent literatures. Signal flow network construction and optimization have been done by using commercial computer software package.

유압 서보 시스템의 속도 제어를 위한 적응제어기의 설계에 관한 연구 (An adaptive control algorithm for the speed control of hydraulic-servo system)

  • An adaptive controller which is robust to the unknown load disturbance is developed for electro-hydraulic speed control systems. Since the load disturbance degrades the performance of the controller such as a steady state error and rise time in the conventional control system, appropriate adjustment of the controller is necessary in order to obtain the desired performances. The adaptation mechanism was designed to tune the feedforward gain, based upon minimization of ITAE (integral of time-multiplied absolute error) performance. The unknown load distrubance was identified by using an analog computer from the relationship between the velocity of the hydraulic motor and the load pressure. To evaluate the performance of the controller a series of simulations and experiments were conducted for various load conditions. Both results show that the proposed adaptive controller shows abetter performance than the conventional controller in terms of the steady state error and rise time.
